Technical Note
St arting the Event Handler on AIX nodes
This technic al note outline s the s teps that are neces sary to ensure that proper permis sio ns are set on AIX 5.2 managed nodes after their re-installation.

Setting Permissions after re-installing an AIX node

Under certain certain circum st ances, HPOMfOV will throw an error message when an attempt is made to start the Event Handler from an AIX 5.2 node. If an AIX 5.2 node icon is dragged and dropped onto the Sta rt Event Handler icon, a file access permission is disa llowed, which prevents the operation from comple ting successfull y. This issue arises only when th e OVOU (OpenView Operati ons for UNI X ) agen t is uninstalled and then reinstalled. When the OVOU agent is first installed, it has full write privileges. Upon un-installation and re -installation , the /dev/null file is r e-created without full write privileges. This r esults in s cript failure when an attempt is made t o r edirect output to the /dev/null file.
To resolve th is issue, the /dev/null file must be manually assigned full write privileges (crw-rw-rw-) after each OVOU agent re-installation.
