Voltage Hazard. Can cause electrical shock or equipment damage.
Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage. More than one disconnect may be involved.
IMPORTANT
All wiring must comply with local electrical codes and ordinances or NEC codes.
IMPORTANT
Use 18 to 20 gauge color-coded cable for proper wiring. Shielded cable is typically not required. Keep this wiring at least one foot away from large inductive loads such as electronic air cleaners, motors, line starters, lighting ballasts, and large distribution panels. Failure to follow these wiring practices may introduce electrical interference (noise) which can cause erratic system operation. All unused wire is to be grounded at controller end only. The bus wire to terminal 1/D must not exceed 1,000 feet (305 M).

AUXILIARY TERMINALS
AUX-IN
AUX-OUT
The Auxiliary Input port is labeled DI on the side of the case. Power for the Auxiliary Input (AUX-IN) may be drawn from an active communication channel (terminals 2 and 3) or a separate 24Vac transformer if no communications channel is used. See Fig. 7 and 8.
Connect the AUX-IN terminal to an optional normally closed (N.C.) sensor contact that fulfills the desired function. The Auxiliary Input terminals accept a voltage input of 18-30 Vac/ dc. Power to the Auxiliary Input represents a normal, nonalarm condition, while a loss of power to the contacts represents an alarm condition.
The Auxiliary Input accepts up to 30 Vac or Vdc presenting no more than a 10 mA load.
AUXILIARY OUTPUT (AUX-OUT)
The Auxiliary Output closes in the event an alert condition is detected from the W8735G or from the Auxiliary Input. The Auxiliary Output (dry) contacts remain closed until the alert condition is cleared. Use the Auxiliary Output terminals to interface with a lamp or buzzer to locally indicate an alert condition (see Fig. 13) or connect to a residential security panel in order to integrate the HVAC alerts to the home security system (see Fig. 12).
The Auxiliary Output is a normally open, dry contact that supports a load current of up to 1 A. A closed output indicates an alert condition. The auxiliary output port is labeled DO on the side of the case.
NOTE: The Auxiliary Output is “made” on all alert conditions
and is deactivated when the alert is cleared from the communication bus.

Auxiliary Input and Output Applications

AUXILIARY INPUT (AUX-IN) TERMINAL
• Connect the Auxiliary Input (AUX-IN) terminals to a normally closed dry contact sensor, drawing power from an active EnviraCOM channel or external transformer. See Fig. 7.
• Connect the Auxiliary Input (AUX-IN) terminals to a normally closed contact sensor, drawing 24 V power from an external power supply. See Fig. 8.
• For multiple sensors, connect in series to enunciate any condition on the AUX-IN loop. See Fig. 9.
• For multiple sensors, connect in parallel to annunciate an “AND” condition on the AUX-IN loop. See Fig. 10.

condition, it queues up the alarm report to the server. If the alarm message is active on the bus for a period exceeding 5 minutes, the gateway connects to the server and delivers its alarm report. If the gateway fails to connect while attempting to deliver an alarm report, it will retry at five minute intervals until successful.
The W8735G also reports a runtime data log for the bus or busses it is monitoring. During a 24 hour period, a W8735G communicating via a phone connection will dial out once between midnight and 4:00
AM local time to deliver the
previous day's log. Broadband gateways update the server every 30 minutes. Applications requiring closer monitoring and faster updates should be connected to a network connection.
Upon power-up, the gateway will conduct a self test which includes a broadband or dial-up attempt using a preprogrammed 800 number. Dial-up connections are only used in cases where Broadband connections are unavailable. For best performance, connect to both Network and Telephone connections. See Fig. 14.

IMPORTANT
— A phone line filter will be required if the gateway is
sharing the line with a DSL modem.
— The gateway will not attempt to dial out if the tele-
phone line is in use.
— Use only with analog telephone lines.
IMPORTANT
If the phone line is needed while the gateway is connected, simply picking up a phone off the hook will cause the gateway to release the line. Other instances/phone systems may require pressing the Flash button on the telephone.

PREFIX 9
Some installations may require a 9 prefix be dialed in order to gain a dial tone. The W8735G supports this feature by way of the preset jumper. See Fig. 15. When this jumper is in place, a “9” will be added to the programmed dial-out number. Removing the jumper removes the 9 from the dial-out sequence.
PREFIX 9 JUMPER
M29955
Fig. 15. Prefix 9 Jumper.
MULTIPLE DIAL-OUT ATTEMPTS:
The normal communication procedure is for the gateway to first attempt a network connection. If this is unavailable, the gateway will attempt to dial out via the modem. Multiple numbers may be programmed into the gateway as backups (check Web App features). Thirty minute periods are allotted to each programmed dial-out number, with dial-out attempts occurring at approximately five minute intervals. At the end of a 30 minute period, the next access number in the queue is attempted. This routine is repeated between midnight and 4:00
AM local time at which point dial-out attempts cease. The
routine is repeated during the next reporting time of midnight4:00 AM.
Battery Replacement
IMPORTANT
The battery backup will ensure that if the power to the gateway is out for a period exceeding one hour, the gateway will attempt to access the server to announce the outage.
Battery health is monitored constantly. Once a battery is replaced, the LED may take a few seconds to reflect the new battery.
For best performance replace the 9V battery yearly or as indicated by the LED (as described in Table 2).
Battery Installation
1. Press the latch on the top of the battery cover and pull it
away from the gateway. See Fig. 16.
2. Connect 9 Vdc battery to the connector leads.
3. Insert the battery in the battery compartment.
4. Insert the bottom tabs of the battery cover into the slots
on the case, then swing the battery cover until the latch engages.
