FeaturesIntroduction
Thank you for purchasing the XGPS10M Universal Bluetooth
®
GPS Receiver from Dual Electronics.
Bluetooth status indicator
The XGPS10M works with signals from GPS satellites to determine your location anywhere in the world. It then can transmit your location information to many kinds of devices which have Bluetooth connectivity and support the Bluetooth Serial
Port Prole (SPP). This includes:
• the iPad

• the iPad Air (generations 1 and 2)
• the iPad mini (generations 1 through 3)
• the iPod touch® (generations 2 through 5)
• the iPhone® (generations 2 through 6)
You can also connect the XGPS10M to many Android® and Windows® smartphones and tablets, as well as to notebook computers running Windows or OS X.
NOTE: Not all manufacturers include SPP in their
devices, even if the device has Bluetooth. Please consult the owner’s manual for your specic device to determine whether it supports SPP. Some devices, like Android-based devices, may need a helper app to connect to the XGPS10M. See Pair- ing with your device for more information.
Battery/Charge indicator. This light will turn on when the battery level is low and the device requires recharging. (See Charging the XGPS10M.) During charging, the light will glow red and change to green when charging is complete. This light is normally off while the XGPS10M is running.

Setup
The XGPS10M is very simple to use. There is a one-time setup process to connect it to your tablet, smartphone or laptop computer. Once this setup process is completed, simply turn on the XGPS10M any time you want to use it.
To setup the XGPS10M with your device, you will
need to do two things:
• Set the mode switch on the XGPS10M for the
type of device you will be using.
• Turn on and pair the XGPS10M with the device you will be using.
Setting the mode switch
With the tip of a ne ballpoint pen, move the mode switch to the proper position:
• If you are using the XGPS10M with an iPad,
iPod touch or iPhone slide the switch to the
right, away from the USB connector. (NOTE:
The XGPS10M ships from the factory with the mode switch already in this position.)
• To use the XGPS10M with an Android device,
Windows device, or any model of laptop computer move the mode switch to the left, towards the USB connector.
Turn on the XGPS10M
Press and hold the power button on the XGPS10M for about 3 seconds. The lights on the device will
ash momentarily, and the blue light will continue to ash indicating that the XGPS10M is ready for
pairing. The battery in the XGPS10M is already partially
charged and the device should turn on the rst
time you take it out of the box. If the device does not turn on, please charge it from a USB source before continuing - see Charging.
Pairing with your device
Pairing is the process connecting two devices over Bluetooth to allow them to communicate. You will
need to go through the pairing process the rst
time you use the XGPS10M with a new device. Once the XGPS10M is paired with a device, the two devices will remember their connection and you will not need to repeat the pairing process.
When powered on, the XGPS10M will automatically try to reconnect to the last device it was paired with. Keep this in mind when trying to use it with multiple devices: if you are having trouble getting a second device to recognize the XGPS10M, make sure the last device you used with the XGPS10M is turned completely off or is out of Bluetooth range.

the XGPS10M will blink rapidly for a few sec-
onds and then stay illuminated, conrming the
two devices have successfully paired and are communicating.
• The iPad/iPhone/iPod touch will then display a
message saying “Application Not Installed: This accessory requires an application you do not have installed.” Despite what the message im-
plies, the XGPS10M is ready to use and you do not need to download anything to make the XGPS10M work. We do recommend that
you download a free app from the iTunes store, called the Bluetooth GPS Status Tool, which shows you detailed information about the XG-
PS10M (device status & battery charge level)
and the GPS signal reception. Tap “Yes” to be redirected to the iTunes store to download this app, or “No” to download it later. The Bluetooth GPS Status Tool app is a completely optional download.

will continue to ash. The blue light does not stop ashing until an application begins actively
requesting GPS information.
• In order for GPS-enabled apps to use information from an external GPS like the XGPS10M, you will need to install a helper app on your Android device. This helper app runs in the background and will let apps communicate with the XGPS10M. Dual provides a free helper app available on the Android Market. Please see the
FAQ section on the Dual website (http://gps.dualav.com/faq/xgps150-150a-150e/) for specic
recommendations and installation instructions.

NOTE: the blue Bluetooth light on the GPS will continue to ash, even after pairing is complete.
This is normal. The Bluetooth light will glow solidly as soon as a GPS-enabled program starts requesting GPS data.
• Once pairing is complete, it is a good idea
to note which COM port Windows assigned to the XGPS10M because your GPS program will
probably ask you for this port number. To nd
the COM port number, go back to the Charms

Using the XGPS10M
Once the XGPS10M is paired with your device, you can begin using apps that utilize GPS information.
The XGPS10M includes a non-slip pad for use on a boat or other vehicle. Slide the XGPS10M into the pad to secure it, making sure that the lip of the pad seals over the top edges of the XGPS10M.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the blue light on the XGPS10M is ashing for more than 10 minutes, the
GPS will automatically go to sleep in order to save battery power. So if you take your tablet/smartphone beyond Bluetooth range, the XGPS10M will shut off after 10 minutes. Additionally, if you are using the XGPS10M with an Android or Windows device, and you do not open a GPS-enabled app within 10 minutes of turning on the XGPS10M, the GPS will also shut off.

SpecicationsCharging
The XGPS10M is charged via the USB connector on the side of the device. To charge, simply connect the XGPS10M to the charger which came with your tablet/smartphone, or the USB port on a computer. A standard USB cable is included for charging. A 12V cigarette lighter adapter is also included for charging the XGPS10M from a 12V outlet. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge the XGPS10M.
Tips for Best Performance
• Put the XGPS10M in a location with a clear
view of the sky for the fastest and most reliable performance.
• If you are using the XGPS10M in a cabin,
avoid placing the GPS under a metal roof which will block the satellite signals.
• The GPS can also be placed on a window sill,
although it may take longer to determine your initial position.
• The range of the Bluetooth connection will
drop as the battery level drops. If you nd that the
wireless connection is failing, try recharging the XGPS10M.
