3D-Link DWR-112 User Manual
Section 1 - Product Overview
• Faster Wireless Networking - The DWR-112 provides up to 300 Mbps* wireless connection speeds
when communicating with other 802.11n wireless clients. This capability allows users to participate in real-time online activities, such as video streaming, online gaming, and real-time audio.
• Compatible with 802.11g Devices - The DWR-112 is still fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11g standard,
so it can connect with existing 802.11g PCI, USB, and CardBus adapters.
• 3G Internet Connection Support - Connect a 3G USB dongle to the DWR-112 to share a 3G mobile
Internet connection.
• Advanced Firewall Features - The Web-based user interface provides easy access to a number of
advanced network management features, including:
Access Control - Use MAC Address ltering to control access to your network and connection.
Content Filtering - Easily control accessible content based on URL and/or Domain Name.
Secure Multiple/Concurrent Sessions - The DWR-112 supports VPN pass-through. It
supports multiple and concurrent IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP sessions, so users connected to the DWR-112 can securely access their corporate networks.
• User-friendly Setup Wizard - Through an easy-to-use Web-based user interface, the DWR-112 helps
you congure the router for your specic needs.
* Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11g and Draft 802.11n specications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors - including volume of network trafc, building materials, construction and network overhead - lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental conditions will adversely affect wireless signal range.

Hardware Overview
Wi-Fi Mode and 3G Mode
The DWR-112 features a hardware switch on the side of the device that enables you to switch between Wi-Fi mode and 3G mode.
Wi-Fi Mode
In Wi-Fi mode, the DWR-112 acts like a normal router; you connect your Internet connection(such as your cable modem or DSL modem) to Port 1, and the DWR-112 then shares this connection with other PCs and devices connected to Ports 2-4 or connected wirelessly.
Plugging in a 3G USB adapter allows you to use 3G failover, where the router will automatically switch to your 3G connection in case your WAN connection(cable/DSL modem) is interrupted or goes down. This helps ensure that you have a working Internet connection at all times.
3G Mode
When the DWR-112 is in 3G mode, the DWR-112 acts like a mobile modem and router; you connect a 3G USB adapter, and your mobile Internet connection is shared with other PCs and devices connected to Ports 1-4 or connected wirelessly.
Wi-Fi Mode / 3G Mode Switch
Use this switch to select either Wi-Fi mode or 3G mode.

Section 2 - Installation
Before You Begin
This section will walk you through the installation process. Placement of the DWR-112 router is very important. Do not place the router in an enclosed area such as a closet, cabinet, or in an attic or garage.
• Please congure the router with the computer that was most recently connected to your modem.
• If you have DSL and are connecting via PPPoE, make sure you disable or uninstall any PPPoE software such as WinPoet, Broadjump, or Enternet 300 from your computer or you will not be able to connect to the Internet.

Wireless Installation Considerations
The D-Link wireless router lets you access your network using a wireless connection from virtually anywhere within the operating range of your wireless network. Keep in mind, however, that the number, thickness and location of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through, may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF (radio frequency) noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to follow these basic guidelines:
1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the D-Link router and other network devices to a
minimum - each wall or ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range from 3-90 feet (1-30 meters.) Position your devices so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized.
2. Be aware of the direct line between network devices. A wall that is 1.5 feet thick (0.5 m) is actually 3
feet thick (1 m) when viewed from a 45-degree angle. At a 2-degree angle, the same wall is effectively over 42 feet (14 meters) thick! Position devices so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling (instead of at an angle) for better reception.
3. Building materials make a difference. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative effect
on signal range. Try to position access points, wireless routers, and computers so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways. Materials and objects like glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (sh tanks), mirrors, le cabinets, brick, and concrete will degrade your wireless signal.
4. Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet or 1-2 meters) from electrical devices or appliances that
generate radio frequency (RF) noise.
5. If you are using 2.4GHz cordless phones or X-10 products (wireless products such as ceiling fans, lights,
and home security systems), your wireless connection may degrade dramatically or drop completely. Make sure your 2.4GHz phone base is as far away from your wireless devices as possible. The base transmits a signal even if the phone is not in use.
