1.0Description
The Detcon A1V1-CI Div2 Alarm Stations are specifically designed for use with the Detcon Sentinel series of
controllers. These alarm stations utilize a 5 Joule Strobe and a 110Db @ 1mtr Horn that can provide one of 16
possible alarm tones. The unit is designed for installation and use in Hazardous duty, corrosive work
environments rated at Class 1, Division 2, Groups E, F, and G.

The alarm station is designed to be pole mounted, and can be positioned almost anywhere. The alarm station is
powered by external 10-18VDC (typically 12VDC) and utilizes an internal DC/DC Converter to create
24VDC to drive the strobe and horn. The Horn and strobe are driven by independent voltage inputs with a
common return. Input voltage to ALM1 provides power to the strobe, and ALM2 provides power to the horn.

The alarm station warning light is configured with choice of dome colors such as amber, blue, clear, green,
magenta, or red. Dome guard is included. The rugged warning light is specifically designed for hazardous
locations or corrosive environments where a very bright visual signal is required.

1.2Horn
The alarm station vibrating horn produces a noise level of a 100dB of sound by the electromechanical
vibration of a stainless steel diaphragm. The horn mechanism has an effective broadcast range of 200 feet.
The horn is enclosed in heavy-duty copper-free cast aluminum housing tapped for 3/4 - inch conduit.
The horn is capable of producing coded blasts or sustained tones, and is excellent for general alarm,
start/dismissal, coded paging, and process control signaling in areas where their sound output exceeds ambient
noise levels. The horn in the Strobe/Horn alarm stations has 16 possible combinations of sounds that are
selectable by switch settings inside the alarm.
Figure 4 Horn
Horn only units provide one unique tone for each alarm level. The tone settings for these units are set at the
Detcon factory and cannot be changed by the user. These alarm tones can be initiated individually, but if both
alarms are active, the tone for alarm two has priority.

Wiring to the unit will normally be provided by use of the Alarm Cable provided with the Sentinel Controller
that the unit will be connected to. Feed the cable through the Cable Gland at the bottom of the alarm assembly
and connect the White wire to ‘ALM1’, the Gray wire to ‘ALM2’ and the Black wire to ‘GND’ on the
connector provided.

3.0Operation
The A1V1-DV2 Alarm Stations provide one strobe and a horn. The alarm station is set to respond to alarms
from the controlling unit. The controller has independent control over the strobe and the Horn, and they will
be activated when the appropriate alarm is activated.
All strobes have a flash rate of 1 Hz (one flash per second). This is preset by the manufacture and cannot be
modified.
The horn has up to 32 possible settings for use in different configurations. The default setting of the horn is
factory set. To change the setting of the horn, remove the rear end of the horn, and set dip switch according to
the Sound Signals Table.
