The Motion Sensor Quartz Security Light turns on 150
watts of quartz-halogen lighting when motion is detected
and then, after a selectable period of time, automatically turns the lighting off. The built-in photocell keeps
the lighting off during daylight hours.

Requirements
• The Light Control requires 120-volts AC. Do not con-
nect through a dimmer or other electronic switch.
• If you want to use Manual Mode, the control must be
wired through a switch.
• Some codes require installation by a qualifi ed
electrician.
• This product is intended for use with the enclosed
gasket and with a junction box marked for use in wet
locations.
• The backplate has knockouts so the sensor can be
mounted on most junction boxes.
• In some applications a universal adaptor plate may
be needed. Adaptors are available at Home Centers
and Electrical Supply Stores.

INSTALLATION
For easy installation, select an existing light with a wall
switch for replacement.
For best performance, locate the fi xture about 8 ft. (2.4 m)
above the ground.
CAUTION: The sensor must be mounted below the
lamp housing for wall installations.
❒ To insert the new bulb, push the bulb into the right
socket so the bulb fi ts completely into the left
socket.
❒ Check that the bulb is seated properly.
❒ Close the glass cover. Replace screw.
WIRE THE LIGHT CONTROL
WARNING: Turn power off at circuit breaker
or fuse.
❒ Drill out the holes if needed
to mount the backplate to the
junction box.
CAUTION to avoid fi re or burn hazards:
• Allow fi xture to cool before touching. The bulb
and fi xture operate at high temperatures.
• Keep fi xture at least 2" (5 cm) from combustible
materials. Do not aim at objects closer than 3 feet
(1 m).
• Re-lamp with type T 150W (or less) halogen 120
VAC lamp only.
For under eave installation, the sensor head must
be rotated as shown in the next two steps for proper
operation and to avoid the risk of electrical shock.
❒ Rotate the sensor head to-
wards the clamp screw joint.

❒ Remove the existing light fi xture.
❒ Strip about 5/8" insulation from the existing junction
box wiring.
❒ Route the Light Control’s wires through the large
hole in the gasket.
❒ Twist the junction box wires and fi xture wires together
as shown. Secure with wire connectors.

Controls
If the sensor pops out of the ball joint, loosen the
clamp screw and push the sensor back into the ball
joint. Tighten the clamp screw when done.
BULB INSTALLATION AND RELAMPING
❒ When relamping, turn power off and let the fi xture
cool.
❒ Remove the screw that holds the glass cover shut.
Remove the old bulb by pushing the bulb towards
the right until the left side of the bulb is clear of the
left socket.
MOUNT THE LIGHT CONTROL
❒ Align the Light Control cover plate and cover plate
gasket and the junction box. Insert and tighten the
mounting screws.
❒ If not installed on a weatherproof box or if an adaptor
plate is used, caulk the wall plate and mounting
surface with silicone weather sealant.

TEST AND ADJUSTMENT
❒ Turn on the circuit breaker and light switch.
NOTE: Sensor requires about 1 1/2 minutes to calibrate
before it will detect motion. When fi rst turned
on, wait about 1 1/2 minutes.
❒ Turn the SENSITIVITY (SENS) control to the mid
position and the ON-TIME control to the TEST
position.

Avoid aiming the control at:
• Objects that change temperature rapidly, such as
heating vents and air conditioners. These heat
sources could cause false triggering.
• Areas where pets or traffi c may trigger the control.
• Nearby large, light-colored objects refl ecting light
may trigger the shut-off feature. Do not point other
lights at the sensor.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
SYMPTOM

1. Light switch is turned off.

3. Fuse is blown or circuit breaker is

installation.
6. Not aimed correctly (Re-aim the
sensor to cover desired area).
1. Light Control may be installed in a
relatively dark location.
2. Light Control is in TEST (Select 1, 5
or 10 minutes for AUTO time).
1. Light Control's sensor may be detecting small animals, swaying trees, or
automobile traffi c (Re-aim sensor).
2. Sensitivity is set too high (Reduce
sensitivity).

1. The halogen lamp is positioned too
close to the Light Control's sensor or
pointed at nearby objects that cause
heat to trigger the sensor (Reposition
the lamp away from the sensor or

2. Light Control's sensor is pointed toward
a heat source like an air vent, dryer
vent, or brightly-painted heat-refl ective
surface (Reposition sensor).
3. On-time set too high (Reduce Time
setting).
1. Heat or light from the halogen lamp
may be turning the Light Control on
and off (Reposition the lamp away
from the sensor).
2. Heat being reflected from other
objects may be affecting the Light
Control (Re-aim sensor).
3. Light Control is in the TEST mode
and warming up (Flashing is normal
under these conditions).

prende 150 vatios de luz halógeno de cuarzo cuando detecta movimiento y luego, después de 1, 5 ó 10 minutos,
se apaga automáticamente. La fotocélula incorporada

Requisitos
• El Control de Luz requiere 120 voltios de CA. No lo
conecte a través de un reductor de luz ni de ningún
otro interruptor electrónico.

• La placa trasera tiene discos removibles para poder

INSTALACION
Para una fácil instalación escoja una luz con un
interruptor de pared.
Para un mejor funcionamiento, instale el aparato a casi
2,4 m del suelo.
CUIDADO: El detector debe ser instalado debajo de
la caja de la lámpara para instalaciones sobre pared.
❒ Perfore los agujeros que se
necesiten para montar la placa de
atrás a la caja de empalmes.
CUIDADO: Para evitar los peligros de incendio o
quemazón:
• Deje que el elemento se enfríe antes de tocarlo.
La bombilla y el elemento funcionan a altas temperaturas.
• Mantenga al elemento por lo menos a 5 cm de los
materiales combustibles. No lo apunte hacia objetos
que estén más cerca de 1 m.
• Cambie sólo con bombillas T halógena de dos clavijas
de 120 VCA y de 150W (Máx.).
❒ Para insertar la nueva bombilla empújela hacia
adentro del enchufe derecho de manera que quepa
completamente en el enchufe izquierdo.
❒ Vea que la bombilla esté asentada correctamente.
❒ Coloque la cubierta de vidrio. Cambie el tornillo.
CONECTE EL CONTROL DE LUZ
❒ Apague la energía eléctrica que va al circuito
del alumbrado en la caja de fusibles o en el
cortacircuitos.
❒ Quite el aparato de luz existente.
❒ Pele aproximadamente 5/8" de aislamiento de la
conexión de la caja de empalme.
❒ Meta los alambres del Control de Luz por el hueco
grande de la empaquetadura.
❒ Conecte los alambres de la caja de empalmes con
los alambres del Control de Luz. Unalos y asegúrelos
con un conector de alambre.

Para instalarlo bajo el alero, la cabeza del detector debe
ser girada como se muestra en los dos pasos siguientes
para evitar el riesgo de un choque eléctrico.

del aparato (o al cable verde si lo tiene).
INSTALE EL CONTROL DE LUZ
❒ Alinee la placa cubertora del Control de Luz y el
empaque de la placa cubertora y los agujeros de
la caja de empalmes. Asegúrelos con los tornillos
de montaje.
❒ Si no lo instala en una caja contra la intemperie, o si
usa una placa adaptadora (no incluida), calafatee
la placa de la pared y la superfi cie de montaje
con un sellador de silicona contra la intemperie.
❒ Quite el tornillo que mantiene segura la tapa de
vidrio. Quite la bombilla vieja empujándola hacia la
derecha hasta que el lado izquierdo de la bombilla
haya salido del enchufe izquierdo.

PRUEBA Y AJUSTE
❒ Prenda el cortacircuitos y el interruptor de
luz.
NOTA: El detector tiene un período de cerca de 1 1/2
minutos de calentamiento antes de detectar
movimiento. Cuando lo prenda por primera
vez, espere 1 1/2 minutos.
❒ Gire el control de sensibilidad (SENS) a la mid, y
el control de tiempo (ON-TIME) a la posición de
prueba (TEST).

• Fuentes de agua u objetos que cambian rápidamente
de temperatura, tales como conductos de calefac-
ción y acondicionadores de aire. Estas fuentes de

puedan activar el control.
• Los objetos grandes cercanos y de colores re-

2. La lámpara halógena está fl oja o fundida.

efecto (compruébelo en la obscuridad).
5. Alambrado incorrectamente, si ésta es
una nueva instalación.
6. Apunte de nuevo el detector para proteger el área deseada.
1. El Control de Luz puede estar instalado
en un lugar relativamente oscuro.
2. El Detector de Movimiento está en fase de
Prueba (Coloque el interruptor de TIME
en la posición de 1, 5 ó 10 minutos).
1. El Control de Luz puede estar detectando
pequeños animales, árboles que se
mueven o tráfi co de carros (reapunte el
detector).
2. La Sensibilidad es demasiado alta (Re-
duzca la sensibilidad).

1. La lámpara está colocada demasiado
cerca al detector o está apuntando
hacia objetos cercanos que causan
calor y activan al detector (Coloque

2. El Control de Luz está apuntando hacia
una fuente de calor como un respiradero
de aire o de secadora o hacia una superfi cie con pintura brillante y que refl eja
el calor (Reposicione el detector).
1. El calor o la luz de la lámpara halógena
puede estar prendiendo y apagando
el Control de Luz (Coloque la lámpara
lejos del detector).
2. El calor que se refl eja desde otros
objetos puede afectar al detector
(Reposicione el detector).
3. El Detector de Movimiento está en su
fase de prueba y está calentándose
(el prenderse y apagarse es normal
bajo estas condiciones).
