Symptom: The DVD-5900 is incapable of reproducing sound signals via the
IEEE1394 connection when it is connected to other company's amplifiers that are conformable to the IEEE1394.
Solution:
customer's unit for improving compatibility with other manufacturer's models that are conformable to the IEEE1394.
Caution:
After upgrading, the DVD-5900s is capable of playing back audio signals after connecting other company's amplifiers that are conformable to the IEEE1394. However, please keep in mind that it does not guarantee the complete compatibility in performance, function and the quality.
Note: When performing the upgrade, it is necessary to have a Personal Computer, Check Jig (Amplifier conformable to the IEEE1394) and others that are exclusively used for upgrading.

• Modification Procedures:
1) Remove the Top Cover.
2) Turn on the Power of the unit. When "0h 00m 00s" appeared on the display of the unit, press "FF SKIP", "PLAY" and "OPEN/CLOSE" buttons simultaneously to start the initialization.
• Please be sure to perform this initialization. When the initialization was performed, indications of "INITIALIZE" appear on the TV Screen and the Display of the Main Unit. Please confirm that the LED of the IEEE1394 on the Main Unit is turned off at this time.
3) Use the supplied Personal Computer for upgrading the ROM for IEEE1394 and rewrite the CD-R (1394 firmware: ER1028). Then, turn off the Power of the unit. (Refer to the attached sheet-2)
4) Remove the FB448 CHIP EMIFIL (11A121) on the GU-3513-1 AUDIO UNIT. (Refer to the attached sheet-3)
5) Solder one side of the 1P WIRE (AWG 28-1007, 001 0233 045) to the Pin #99 of IC402 and solder the other end of the wire to the FB448 (CX251 side). (Refer to the attached sheet-3)
6) Use the supplied Personal Computer for upgrading the unit to IEEE1394, and perform the rewriting operation of the PLD (IC404). (Refer to the attached sheet-

7) Close the Top Cover.
8) Use the supplied CD-R for rewriting the System MICON and perform the rewriting operation of the System MICON. (Refer to the attached sheet-5)
9) Use supplied CD-R for rewriting the Back-end ROM, and rewrite the Back-end ROM. (Refer to the attached sheet-5)
10) Confirming of the Version: Turn off the Power of the unit once. While holding the "PLAY" and "OPEN/CLOSE" buttons down simultaneously, turn on the Power of the Unit. When " >|| " mark is indicated on the FL Display, the following versions are indicated by turns every time the "PUSH/ENTER" button on the unit is pressed. Confirm the versions.
• Versions: ESS 6334-G, MAKE DAY 105, and DRV 030825 SYSTEM 6542-5
11) Use the Check Jig (Amplifier conformable to IEEE1394) and confirm the playback sound. (Refer to the attached sheet-6) (a) Connect DVD-5900 or DVD-A11 with the Check Jig (Amplifier conformable to IEEE1394: VSA-AX5i) and the TV Monitor. (b) Turn on the Power of the Check Jig and the TV Monitor. (c) Turn on the Power of the DVD-5900 and set the unit to the IEEE1394 mode. (d) Turn the MULTI-JOG of the Check Jig, and confirm that "DVD-5900" is indicated on the FL Display of the Jig. (e) Confirm the playback sound by means of general SACD, CD-DA, DVD-Video and DVD Audio discs.
