1 Canon PowerShot SX710 HS – Red Camera
Dirt on sensor / chip / IR filter (infrared filter)
Disassembly and assembly at 31.03.2018
2 Previously
Large stain in upper right quarter (little zoom, much zoom). Often in sky.
3 Afterwards
Unfortunately now there is a small stain in lower left quarter (little zoom, much zoom). Probably
not so disturbing, because seldom in sky.
4 Tools
• very tiny phillips screwdriver
• air blower
• antistatic brush
• magnifier with LED would be good, mine was scrap
• tweezers straight
• small curved tweezers (is missing in the photo)
• very tiny slotted screwdriver
• tea light and lighter
• kitchen paper, as lint-free white underlay
• another camera for documentation, expecially for assembly
• pencil, to label parts at the kitchen paper
5 Disassembly
Remove battery, SD-card and lace.
Remove only two screws at the bottom. Third screw holds front cap.
Remove both screws at the right side. One beneath the HDMI cap. This one is silver, not red.
Both screws hold the front cap, too. The front cap has not to be removed.
Remove both screws at the left side. The colour is another red, due to plastic cap. Both screws
hold the front cap, too.
Clap the back cap carefully upwards. At the top there are some brackets, ie a little bit tricky. The
upper wheel AUTO remains at the back cap, ie is clapped upwards, too. The lower wheel FUNC
remains at the camera, ie is not yet clapped upwards.
Attention: Don't clap too far, especially don't throw, due to cables!
Pull the (narrow) ribbon cable leading to the cap (to the wheel AUTO). It works only with slim
tweezers. Didn't find any closing device. There is a rectangular notch at the brown hard part,
where you can carefully pull upwards.
Work you don't have to do:
• The (narrow) ribbon cable to the screen has not to be removed. (Later there will appear a
wide cable, not necessary to remove.)
