This printer suppor ts Exif 2.2 (also called “Ex if Pri nt ”). Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the communication between digital cameras and printers. By connecting to an Exif Pri nt- compli an t dig ital ca mer a, th e camer a’s image data at the time of shoot ing is used and optimized, yiel ding extremely high quality prints.

Setting Up
1 Preparing the Printer

Place the printer on a flat surface.

Remove the packing material and tape from the printer as shown.
2 Connecting the Printer to the Computer
Use eithe r a USB cable or parallel printer cable. You cannot connect th e computer to the printer using both the parallel cable AND the US B cab le .
USB cable
• Windows XP, Windows Me,
W indow s 20 00, Windows 98,
•Mac OS 8.6 or later
Recomme nd ed: Cano n or oth er comp ute r manufacturer cable, up to 5 meters in length.
• The USB cable delivers relat i vel y faster printing speeds and is rec ommended for use with Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows 98.
• If your computer has an earth connection, make sure that this is attached.
• If you do not intend to use the printer for a long period of time, unplug the power cord from the power outlet after turning off the printer.
Printer cable (parall el)
• Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95 (Can also be used with Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows 98.)
Should c onform with Centronics IEEE 1284 and support bi-directional communication. Recommended: Canon or other computer manufac turer cable, up to 2 meters in length.

Ensure the printer and the comput er are switched off.

Connect the cable.
Figure A shows the USB cable connection and Figure B shows the printer cable (parallel) connection.
If the Add New Hardware Wizard or Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears when carryi ng out the following operations, click Cancel and turn off the computer.

3 Installing the Print Head
• Never attempt to plug the power cord into the power outlet or unplug the power cord when your hands are wet.
• Never damage, modify, stretch, or excessively bend or twist the power cord. Do not place heavy objects on the power cord.
• Never use any power supply other than the standard power supply available in th e country of purchase. Usin g the incorrec t voltage and frequency could c a use a fire or electric shock.
• Always push the plug all the way into the power outlet.

Plug the printer in.

Turn on the printer. Do NOT turn on the computer yet.
The POWER lamp flashes and the printer begins to operate. Wait until the POWER lamp remains fully lit.

Open the front cover.

Remove the tape.

Raise the lock lever.
Do not touch internal parts other than the lock lever.

Remove the protective cap from the print head.

• Do not touch the print head nozzles or electrical contact s.
• Do not attempt to reattach the protective cap once it has been removed.

Place the print head in the holder.
Be careful not to touch any parts inside the printer.

Lock the print head into place by lowering the lever.
Do not touch the lock lever once the print head has been installed.

• For safety reasons, store ink tanks out of the reach of small children.
• Do not drop or shake ink tanks.

Take out the yellow ink tank.

Pull the orange tape in the direction of the arrow and remove the clear film.

Protective cap

Hold the ink tank as shown in the diagram and remove the protective cap.

• Do not squeeze the sides of the ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out and stain your clothes and hands.
• Do not touch the ink port.
• Do not attempt to re attach the protective cap once it has been removed.

Insert the yellow ink tank into the right­hand slot. Press the top unti l it clicks into plac e.

Use the same procedure to install the other ink tanks in their appropri ate slots.
Check the labels to make sure that each tank is in the correct p osition.
• Only install the ink ta nks in the po sitions specified by the labels.
• If ink tanks are not installed in the right position, colors will not be printed correctly. Immediately reinstall the tank in the correct position and carry out print head cleaning. For details, refer to the User’s Guide.

Close the front cover.
Wait until the POWER lamp remains fully lit (about 60 seconds).
