RE: GP215 blackening of lamp / defective PSU: FG5-6331-030
Last week we did an in-depth investigation in Europe at some customer sites
as well as inhouse into the ‘lamp-blackening / PSU’ problem.
As a result of this investigation, Canon Inc. staff were able to locate the
source of the problem.
To overcome the problems, some modification to the PSU will have to be
made.
The first step is to modify machines with serial numbers in the range as
mentioned below:
GP210 UED00001, UDG00860 and later
GP215 UDY00001, UFY08847 and later
These machines have a PSU with a revision 03 CPU. With these machines, a
capacitor C503 needs to be removed as can be seen on page 2 ( already
removed ).
After the removal of this capacitor, these machines are fully modified.
For machines with serial number earlier then the ones mentioned above, a
rework procedure will be established of which you will be informed of on a
later stage.
We also sent out a shipment of retrofit PSU some weeks ago.
These units are also the latest version and need to have capacitor C503
removed as well.
We recommend to use these modified retrofit parts for urgent cases, and for
machines that do not show these problems, cut the capacitor during a regular
PM or maintenance call.
We will get back to you with more details on how to proceed with the
machines not within the specified range of serial numbers.
