General information about stains
The Stains additional programme option for treating special stains can be found via the Options button.
A total of 16 different stains can be selected. The washing machine adjusts the washing temperature, drum movement and soaking time specific to the type of stain. Hot or cold water, gentle or intensive washing control and long or short soaking provide the wash programme with a special sequence for each type of stain. The result: stains are treated optimally.

Intelligent Dosing System
Your washing machine features an intelligent dosing system for liquid detergent and softener. Dispensers i-DOS w (1.3 l) and i-DOS i/w (0.5 l) in the detergent drawer are used for this. You can select whether you want to use one liquid detergent and one softener or two liquid detergents.
Depending on the selected programme and settings, the optimum amounts of detergent/softener are dosed via the i-DOS containers.
Switching on the appliance
The appliance has been preset at the factory for the dosing of a liquid detergent and a softener, indicated by corresponding changeable inserts in the fill covers:
Ø Þ Color detergent, pre-installed. Ø i Softener only i-DOS M/w , pre-installed, Ø ß Standard/universal detergent, enclosed.
If required, attach the enclosed programme selector label:

When selecting your detergent and care product, follow the instructions of the manufacturers. We recommend the use of standard, universal and color liquid and gel-like detergents for all machine-washable, coloured textiles made of cotton and synthetic materials.
Ø Use only self-flowing liquid products and gels which the
manufacturer recommends adding to a detergent drawer.
Ø Do not mix different liquid detergents. If changing the liquid
detergent (type, manufacturer, ...), empty the dispenser completely. ~ Page 41
Ø Do not use any solvent-based, corrosive or gas-emitting
products (e.g. liquid beach).
Ø Do not mix detergent and softener. Ø Do not use any superimposed or highly thickened products. Ø To prevent product from drying, do not leave the fill cover
open for a long time.

Standard settings
Ø If required, change basic dosages for detergent and softener:
The basic dosage amount to be set corresponds: For detergents – to the manufacturer’s recommendation for
normal soiling and to the particular water hardness. For softeners – to the manufacturer’s recommendation for
medium softness and to the particular water hardness. This information can be found on the package label of the
detergent/softener or ask the manufacturer directly. To determine the existing water hardness, use a test strip or
check with your water utility company. My water hardness:
Here is an example of the detergent dosage on a package label:

Sensors – Your washing machine is so intelligent
Load adjust
Depending on the type of textile and load, the load adjust optimally adjusts the water consumption in each programme.
Aqua-Sensor
During the wash and rinse cycles the Aqua sensor checks the degree of turbidity (turbidity is caused by dirt and detergent residue) of the washing and rinsing water. The duration and number of rinse cycles are specified depending on the water turbidity and, if required, an additional amount of detergent is dosed in the automatic programmes.
Load sensor/Load display
The load sensor detects the load level in the washing machine when the door is open. This is indicated by a progressing bar on the display panel.
²
To ensure that the load sensor measures all the laundry, the drum must be empty before the washing machine is switched on.
Dosing recommendation
The dosing recommendation indicates a recommended detergent dosage as a %, depending on the selected programme and the detected load. The indicated % refers to the recommendation of the detergent manufacturer.
²
By observing the recommended dosage, you will protect the environment and reduce your household costs.
Unbalanced load detection system
The automatic unbalanced load detection system spins the laundry several times to ensure even distribution.
For reasons of safety the speed is reduced or does not perform a spin cycle if the washing is very unevenly distributed.

Connecting the water
ã Warning!
Danger of death from electric shock!
Danger of death if live parts are touched. Do not immerse Aqua-Stop safety device in water (contains an electric valve).
²
To prevent leakage or water damage, follow the instructions
in this chapter! – Operate the washing machine with cold drinking water only. – Do not connect to the mixer tap of an unpressurised hot-
water apparatus. – Use only the supplied inlet hose or one purchased from an
authorised specialist outlet, not a used one! – If in doubt, have the appliance connected by a technician.
Water inlet hose
²
Water inlet hose: do not kink, crush, modify or sever (strength is no longer guaranteed).
Optimum water pressure in the mains: 100–1000 kPa (1–10 bar)
Ø When the tap is turned on, the water flow is at least 8 l/min. Ø If the water pressure is higher, install a pressure reducing
valve.
1.
Connect the water supply hose.
ã Warning!
Threads for screw connections may be damaged!
If the screw connections are tightened too tightly using a tool (pliers), the threads may be damaged. Tighten plastic screw-fittings by hand only.

Water drainage hose
²
Do not kink or protract the the water supply hose. – Height difference between the placement area and drainage
point: 0–maximum 100 cm
Drainage into a wash basin
ã Warning!
Water damage possible!
If the attached drainage hose slips out of the washbasin due to high water pressure when draining the washing machine, leaking water may cause damage. Secure the drainage hose to prevent it from slipping out of the sink.
ã Caution!
The appliance may be damaged.
If the end of the drainage hose is immersed in the drained water, water may be drawn back into the appliance!
– The plug must not be in the plug hole. – When the water is being pumped out of the
washing machine, check that the water drains away quickly enough.
– The end of the drainage hose must not be
immersed in the drained water!

Electrical safety
ã Warning!
Danger of death from electric shock!
Danger of death if live parts are touched. – Never pull out the mains plug by tugging the power
cord. – Insert/pull out the mains plug with dry hands only. – Never pull out the mains plug during operation. – Connect the washing machine to an alternating
current via a correctly installed earthed socket only. – The mains voltage and voltage specifications on
the washing machine (appliance rating plate) must
match. – Connected load as well as required fuse are
indicated on the appliance rating plate. Ensure that: – Mains plug and socket match fit. – Cable cross-section is adequate. – Earthing system has been installed correctly. – A damaged power cord may be replaced by
an electrician only. A replacement mains cable can
be obtained from customer service. – Do not use multiple plugs/couplings or extension
cables. – If a residual-current-operated circuit breaker is
used, use only a type which features this symbol:
z.
Only this symbol guarantees compliance with
currently valid regulations. – The mains plug must be accessible at all times.
