PABX Des crip ti on
The PABX sys tem is an ISDN te le com mu ni ca tions sys tem at an ISDN point-to-mul ti point or point-to-point con nec ­ti on that em ploys the Eu ro ISDN pro to col (DSS1). Ana log ter mi nal de vi ces can be con nec ted via in te gra ted jacks. The PABX sys tem is al so equip ped with an in ter nal ISDN port, al lo wing an ISDN ter mi nal de vi ce to be con nec ted at its RJ45 jacks. Fi xed cab ling using ter mi nals is al so pos si ble for ana log con nec tions. Two ana log ports are rou ted out via a com mon RJ45 jack. As signment of in ter nal pho ne num bers is free ly con fi gu ra ble bet ween 00... 99. Cal ling using ana log ter mi nal de vi ces should be con duc ted using the to ne dia ling (DTMF) me thod, and the se de vi ces should be equip ped with a Flash key. Ana log ter mi nal de vi ces that use pul se dia ling can not be used for functions or codes. Plea se no te that the but tons on so me ISDN ter mi nals avai la ble on the mar ket may li mit the use of the fea tu res pro vi ­ded by the PABX sys tem. All ter mi nal devices connected to the system must be »TC Terminals Guideline« or »R&TTE Guideline« approved.
The PABX sys tem al so pro vi des all of the functions ne ces sa ry for high-speed In ter net ac cess for a sing le pcs, or for com ple te LANs via xDSL or ISDN. He re the fi re wall in te gra ted in to the PABX sys tem, to get her with the NAT (net ­work ad dress trans la ti on) functi on, pro vi des the ne ces sa ry se cu ri ty; the functions DHCP ser ver and DNS proxy en ­su re that the sco pe of con fi gu ra ti on, both for your PABX system and your PC, is kept to a minimum.
In ter net ac cess for all of the PCs con nec ted to the PABX sys tem is pro vi ded via one sing le con nec ti on (SUA - sing le user ac count); on ly one set of ac cess da ta is re qui red from your In ter net ser vi ce providers (ISP).
Loss of power
Du ring a loss of po wer you can in itia te or re cei ve calls at an ISDN or sys tem te le pho ne ca pa ble of emer gen cy ope ra ti ­on. Ot her te le pho nes or ter mi nal de vi ces can not be rea ched as long as power is down.
In the event of a loss of po wer, all sto red con tents (pro gram and ap pli ca ti on da ta) are re tai ned in the PABX wit hout any chan ges. The in ter nal clock for the pho ne sys tem is set au to ma ti cal ly via the ISDN port on the next external call.
Cleaning
You can cle an your PABX wit hout any dif fi cul ties. Use a slight ly mois te ned cloth or an an ti-sta tic cloth for this. Do not use any sol vents! Ne ver use a dry cloth; Elec tro sta tic char ges could da ma ge the elec tro nics in the sys tem. Al ways en su re, ho we ver, that no moi stu re pe ne tra tes in to your PABX, as this could result in damage to the PABX.

Important safety information for handling the PABX system
· Un aut ho ri zed ope ning of the PABX and im pro per re pairs may re sult in risk of in ju ry for the user.
Note At ten ti on: Un plug the 230 V AC plug-in po wer supp ly be fo re re mo ving the en clo su re co ver of the PABX and wor ­king on the ca ble ter mi nal bay. Re pla ce the top on the PABX be fo re plug ging the po wer con nec tor back in.
Note Plug the plug-in po wer supp ly unit into the 230 V ~ so cket so that the con nec ting cord to the PABX sys tem points downward.

· Do not ex po se the in si de of the PABX or the plug-in po wer supp ly to any li quids. this would pose a risk of
elec tri cal shock. and can also de stroy the de vi ces.
· You should not con nect or dis con nect any li nes du ring thun ders torms.
· Only ter mi nals with SELV and/or which com ply with ETS 300047 may be con nec ted to the PABX sys tem.
This re gu la ti on is ful fil led when ap pro ved ter mi nal de vi ces are used as intended.
· The dis tan ce bet ween the plug-in po wer supp ly unit and the PABX and to the ISDN con nec ti on should not
ex ceed 1. 5 me ters so that stan dard con nec ting li nes can be used.
· The PABX is ope ra ted with 230 V AC using the plug-in po wer supp ly unit. Plea se en su re that the elec tri cal
out let (groun ding out let) for the PABX (and for ad di tio nal de vi ces whe re re qui red) is in stal led such that it is free ly ac ces si ble at all ti mes and that it is in stal led by a qua li fied elec tri ci an to pre vent any risks of per so ­nal or ma te ri al in ju ry/da ma ge! Whe re at all pos si ble, pro vi de a se pa ra te po wer cir cuit for the 230 V con nec ­ti on of your PABX sys tem; This pro tects your PABX from short-cir cuits that may occur in other in-house equipment.

The PABX au to ma ti cal ly re cog ni zes the ac ti vat ed sys tem te le pho nes and pro vi des functions ty pi cal for the se te le pho nes in a spe ci al me nu. Configuration of system telephones via the PABX
You can con fi gu re sys tem te le pho nes from a cen tral lo ca ti on from PC off using the Pro fes sio nal Con fi gu ra tor. The sys tem te le pho nes are re cog ni zed by the Pro fes sio nal Con fi gu ra tor and the con fi gu ra ti on can be re ad out and edi ted. You can al so lo ad rin ging me lo dies using the Sound Ma na ger and edit the te le pho ne book for the sys tem telephone (with the exception of the CS290).
Intercom
An in ter com call al lows you to set up a con nec ti on from one sys tem te le pho ne to anot her sys tem te le pho ne wit hout this con nec ti on ha ving to be ac cep ted by pus hing a but ton. In ter com calls are ac cep ted au to ma ti cal ly by the pho ne being cal led when the functi on »Hands-free calling« is activated, provided:
· the te le pho ne is idle,
· the in ter com call functi on has not been spe ci fi cal ly de ac ti vat ed and
· »Do not dis turb« has been de ac ti vat ed.
If you lift the hand set of a sys tem te le pho ne du ring an in ter com call, the call is con ti nu ed over the handset. If an in ter com call is not ter mi na ted by one of the two users, the con nec ti on is ter mi na ted au to ma ti cal ly af ter a time

firm your in put. Eight (8) en tries from the PABX te le pho ne di rec to ry are al ways shown which you can view one after the other.
Se lect the de si red en try and con firm by cli cking »OK«. You must now be gin dia ling by lif ting the hand set.
Note When using sys tem te le pho nes you can re ach the PABX te le pho ne di rec to ry by pres sing Shift + the te le pho ne di rec ­to ry soft key (e. B. »tbook« or »Te le pho ne di rec to ry«). Sys tem te le pho nes wit hout a te le pho ne di rec to ry can ac cess the te le pho ne di rec to ry of the PABX via this te le pho ne di rec to ry soft key.
Follow me
Using sys tem te le pho nes, you can set up call for war ding from anot her ter mi nal de vi ce of your PABX sys tem to your te le pho ne or mo bi le unit. This call for war ding is ba sed on the fea tu re Fol low me for the PABX.
En ter the num ber of the sub scri ber that is to be for war ded to your te le pho ne and the ty pe of call for war ding using the sys tem me nu. In ad di ti on, you can al so de le te an exi sting call for war ding functi on. A dis tincti on is ma de bet ween the fol lo wing types of call forwarding:

The PABX sys tem re cog ni zes by the length of the num ber whet her you ha ve en te red an in ter nal or ex ter nal num ber. You the re fo re do not need to in put a pre fix code for ex ter nal num bers. You can al so de ac ti va te or de le te a di rect call num ber that has been previously configured or activated.
call modes
In the »Day / Night« me nu of the sys tem me nu you can switch over the call mo de for the PABX wit hout using the al lo ­ca ted codes (see pa ge 26). The te le pho nes must be aut ho ri zed for swit cho ver of the call modes.
Cost logging
The cost log ging functi on al lows you to view and, if de si red, de le te the num ber of ac cu mu la ted units and the costs of calls for the ter mi nal de vi ces. This fea tu re is pro tec ted by the 6-digit PIN2.

Direct exchange line access

When di rect ex chan ge li ne ac cess is ac ti vat ed, you will be swit ched im me di ate ly to the ex ter nal ISDN con nec ti ­on when you lift the hand set and will then he ar the di al to ne for the ex chan ge. For ex am ple, you can call an ex ter nal bu si ness part ner whi ­le si mul ta ne ous ly trans fer ring da ta from your PC to a dif fe rent bu si ness part ner. When you in itia te an ex ter nal call via your PABX, the sys tem au to ma ti cal ly trans mits your num ber and the ser vi ce ID (for the ter mi nal de vi ce, such as pho ne or fax). If a ter mi nal con nec ti on is con fi gu red for a mul ti-functio nal de vi ce in the PABX, ex ter nal calls are sig na led with the ID »Ana log te le pho ny«, »ISDN te le pho ny« and »Fax de vi ce« at the ter mi nal de vi ce. He re, when you in itia te an ex ter ­nal call, the ser vi ce ID code »Analog telephony« is transmitted.
It is not ne ces sa ri ly re qui red that all te le pho nes / ter mi nal de vi ces be avai la ble for ma king calls throug hout the world. It is so me ti mes even mo re ad van ta ge ous when so me te le pho nes are aut ho ri zed for lo cal calls on ly (pho ne bills also more transparent).

Keypad function (»Net direct«)
On ly re cent ly you pur cha sed the most mo dern te le pho ne on the mar ket. Sin ce then, ho we ver, new fea tu res ha ve been ad ded to the pub lic net work which you are not ab le to use just by pus hing a but ton. Using the »Key pad« functi on you can use cur rent ISDN functions of fe red by your ser vi ce pro vi der by en te ring a key se quen ce from your ISDN or analog telephone.
Ask your net work ser vi ce pro vi der about this and get the cor re spon ding codes from them (for ex am ple ac ti va ting in ­hi bits at the ex chan ge office). Use of this fea tu re must be en ab led for a user de fi ned in con fi gu ra ti on in the sec ti on »In ter nal user« on the tab »Fea tu res«. If the fea tu re »Di rect ex chan ge li ne ac cess« is ac ti vat ed you will on ly be ab le to use the key pad functi on if you press the * but ton first and then dial 0 after you lift the handset.
The key pad functions can on ly be used by ter mi nal de vi ces to which an MSN has been as sig ned du ring con fi gu ra ti on and for which this fea tu re has been ap plied for at the exchange.

Multifunctional device

By dia ling the ap pro pria te code, your PABX trans mits the ser vi ce ID »fax group 3«. The remote PABX system recognizes the service and connects you to the fax machine.

Call forwarding
Using the functi on »Call for war ding«, the PABX pro vi des you with a me ans for re mai ning ac ces si ble, even if you lea ­ve your desk or pho ne. This is achie ved by the sys tem au to ma ti cal ly for war ding calls to anot her in ter nal or ex ter nal num ber. Du ring PC con fi gu ra ti on for the PABX you can spe ci fy for each in ter nal ex ten si on whet her this fea tu re is to be exe cu ted within your PABX system or in the exchange.
Call forwarding by the PABX
The PABX con nects the cal ling par ty with the in ter nal or ex ter nal sub scri ber that you ha ve spe ci fied. The B chan nel of the ISDN con nec ti on is used for an ex ter nal call, de pen ding on your par ti cu lar configuration.
Call for war ding can al so be ma de to a team num ber.
Call forwarding in the exchange
· You can use this op ti on at the net work ser vi ce pro vi der if you have ac ti vat ed the se ser vi ces for your con nec -
ti on. Con tact your net work ser vi ce pro vi der for more information.
· The ex chan ge con nects cal ling par ties with the ex ter nal num ber that you have spe ci fied. In ter nal call for -
war ding is ac ti vat ed by the PABX wit hin the PABX.
· At a point-to-mul ti point con nec ti on all calls are for war ded for the MSN that is cal led. Ot her ter mi nal de vi -
ces of the PABX to which the same MSN has been as sig ned are not cal led (parti al rerouting).
Note If call for war ding has been con fi gu red but is not car ried out by the ex chan ge (be cau se this fea tu re was not ap plied for) calls will au to ma ti cal ly be for war ded by the PABX.
There are three different variants of call forwarding:
· Call for war ding im me di ate ly:
The call is for war ded im me di ate ly to the de fi ned number.
· Call for war ding on no ans wer: The call is for war ded af ter 15 se conds (de pen ding on the set ting in the PABX
or at the ex chan ge; parti al rerouting).
· Call for war ding on busy:
· The call is for war ded only if the des ti na ti on te le pho ne is busy.
Note On going call for war ding calls also be over writ ten by a new call for war ding. Ot her call for war ding va riants may also be ac ti vat ed si mul ta ne ous ly. For ex am ple call for war ding »by time«, to num ber 12345 and call for war ding »on busy«, to num ber 45677.
Activating call forwarding

For the week end you ha ve re rou ted the fax num ber of your office to your pri va te fax ma chi ne at ho me. Let’s say you’re on the way to the office, which ta kes around 30 mi nu tes, and would now li ke to al so re cei ve fax mes sa ges that are ad dres sed to your office. You then can cel the »Fol low me - ex ter nal« functi on at ho me and when you ar ri ve at the office your fax mes sa ges will be wai ting on you – ex act ly whe re you need them. You can use this functi on to con fi gu re or can cel call for war ding to any des ti na tions. Call data records
The PABX can sto re up to 500 call da ta re cords. This da ta is not lost in the event of a loss of po wer. The PABX ge ner ates a call da ta re cord for every ex ter nal call. The call da ta re cords con tain de tai led in for ma ti on
about the call. For ex.: Da te and time, du ra ti on of the call, num ber of the cal led par ty, num ber of the cal ling par ty, ty ­pe of con nec ti on, com mu ni ca ti on costs and possible project numbers.
In the de fault sta te, all ex ter nal calls that you in itia te are sto red. In co ming calls can be log ged in two dif fe rent ways.
· Only in co ming calls with a cer tain pro ject nu mer are sto red.
· All in co ming calls are sto red.
Note Plea se note that only the net work ser vi ce pro vi der is aut ho ri zed for bin ding con nec ti on/call cost log ging.

Call data record overflow
The me mo ry for your call da ta re cords is li mit ed. If the PABX me mo ry has al rea dy sto red mo re than 480 com mu ni ­ca ti on da ta sets, a com mu ni ca ti on da ta over flow can be in di ca ted by sys tem te le pho nes. De pen ding on the sys tem te ­le pho ne ty pe used, the cal ler list eit her dis plays the ser vi ce num ber to get her with a mes sa ge or the ser vi ce num ber on ly. The sys tem telephone is specified when configuring the PABX.
ISDN terminals
The com mu ni ca ti on / call char ges can be dis play ed at ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces that sup port this feature.
Analog terminal devices
With your PABX sys tem it is pos si ble to trans mit the char ge ra te in for ma ti on as me te ring pul ses via the ana log ports with ap pro pria te ly equip ped ter mi nal de vi ces. In the in iti al sta te trans mis si on of the 12 or 16 kHz char ge pul se is de ­ac ti vat ed. On ac count of the tech no lo gy used in ISDN for the con nec ti on/call cost trans fer, con nec ti on/call costs may con ti nue to be trans mit ted even af ter the con nec ti on has been ter mi na ted. With all of the ana log ter mi nal de vi ces avai la ble on the mar ket, it may not al ways be pos si ble for the char ge pul se trans mit ted by your PABX sys tem at the con clu si on of a con nec ti on to be re cei ved pro per ly by the ter mi nal de vi ce you are using. Plea se ob ser ve the in struc ­tions in the ope ra ting ma nu al for your ter mi nal device. The transmit pulse frequency can be set during PC configuration to 12kHz or 16kHz.
Charge counter
The PABX ma na ges a char ge coun ter for each in ter nal user on the ba sis of the trans mit ted char ge ra te in tor ma ti on. The coun ter logs the costs of all calls. You can use the PABX me nu or the char ge log ger pro gram to dis play the coun ter for an in ter nal user. You can al so reset the counters.

System telephones
Sys tem pho nes can use the PABX sys tem me nu (PIN pro tec ted) to view and de le te the char ge coun ters of the in di vi ­du al ter mi nal devices.
Transmission of communication costs by the network service provider
To dis play call/con nec ti on costs at in ter nal ter mi nal de vi ces of the PABX eit her du ring or at the end of the call and to ma na ge the char ge coun ter you ha ve to ap ply for the ra te in for ma ti on trans fer to be ac ti vat ed by your net work ser vi ce pro vi der. The re are two ways to transfer the cost of calls:
· Trans fer of rate in for ma ti on in units.
The se units are then con ver ted to a cur ren cy va lue using a de fi ned fac tor. The cur ren cy must be spe ci fied pre vi ous ly in the PABX however.
· Trans fer of the cur ren cy va lue.
No con ver si on re qui red in the PABX.
Ask your net work pro vi der which me thod is used to trans mit your char ge ra te da ta. Ma ke su re your con nec ted ter ­mi nal de vi ces sup port the me thod that is used. The PABX supp orts both the se trans mis si on types.
Note If your net work ser vi ce pro vi der has made this rate in for ma ti on dis play du ring calls avai la ble on your ISDN con ­nec ti on then the PABX ter mi nal de vi ces can dis play this in for ma ti on.
Call account (charge limitation, pocket money account)
A call char ge ac count can be pro gram med for each in ter nal user. The char ge ra te amounts avai la ble to that par ti cu lar user are de fi ned in this ac count. If the user uses up his/her al lot ted units he/she can then on ly ma ke in ter nal calls. If this li mit is rea ched du ring an on going call, the call can be com ple ted. The user can ma ke ex ter nal calls again when the num ber of units on his/her ac count is in crea sed or the counter is deleted.
Notes
Plea se no te that user’s char ge ac count must be ac ti vat ed and trans mis si on of the ra te in for ma ti on must be ap plied for at your net work ser vi ce pro vi der in or der to uti li ze this fea tu re. If you ma ke a call using a dif fe rent pro vi der which do ­es not trans fer the char ge ra te in for ma ti on, the call account function will be ineffective.
Be fo re you en ter the amount for the call cost ac count you must cle ar the char ge coun ter for the in ter nal num ber of the ac count hol der. You can then set up the call account.

Least Cost Routing (LCR)
The built-in Least Cost Rou ting fea tu re lets you ma ke calls via an al ter na ti ve car rier or ser vi ce pro vi der. When this per for man ce fea tu re is ac ti vat ed the PABX sys tem at tempts to set up the most rea so na bly pri ced or op ti mum con ­nec ti on for that time. The op ti mum con nec ti on may not al ways be the most reasonably priced however.

Teams are groups of per sons who work to get her to achie ve a set go al. Nor mal ly, this me ans that all of the mem bers of a team can be rea ched at a com mon num ber for ex ter nal and in ter nal calls. In the PABX this me ans that a num ber can be spe ci fi cal ly as sig ned to each team of te le pho nes / ter mi nal de vi ces, al lo wing all team mem bers to be rea ched at all ti mes for ex ter nal and in ter nal calls. In PC con fi gu ra ti on you can as sign up to eight in ter nal num bers or one num ber for ex ter nal call for war ding to each of the 10 pos si ble teams. The se teams can, in turn, be al lo ca ted to the ex ter nal MSN. A team num ber can be spe ci fied in PC con fi gu ra ti on for the team for in ter nal team calls. When a sub scri ber di als the num ber for a team the team na me is shown in the dis play of his/her pho ne whi le the call is in pro cess. If a team mem ber ans wers the call, then his or her na me will be dis play ed. If the MSN is di aled by an ex ter nal par ty, or the team num ber by an in ter nal user, all of the as sig ned ter mi nal de vi ces are cal led. Dif fe rent ter mi nal de vi ces can be as sig ned to the teams (for example telephone, fax group 4); calls are signaled according to their function.

Enabling / Inhibiting a member’s phone within a team

You can dis ab le your te le pho ne for call sig na ling in a team or in all teams and en ab le it la ter. Switching team call day/night assignments (call distribution)
The Day/Night team call as signment de fi nes which in ter nal te le pho nes should ring when an ex ter nal call co mes in. The day/night team call as signment list is a tab le in which in co ming calls are as sig ned to internal users.
Let’s say you wish to re rou te im por tant bu si ness calls to your (ho me) office to an ans we ring ma chi ne af ter hours so that you will not be dis tur bed at ho me. In PC con fi gu ra ti on you can as sign two dif fe rent call dis tri bu ti on op tions (team call as signment day/night) to each team. Call for war ding to an ex ter nal sub scri ber is al so pos si ble for day/night team call as signments, al lo wing you to al ways be rea ched by im por tant cal lers, for ex am ple. You then on ly need to switch the team call as signment op ti on from day to night and call will be signaled where you need them to be.
Note You can switch over the day/night team call mode at any time du ring the day or night. This swit cho ver can be per ­for med by any user with the pro per pri vi le ges (de fault set ting: no sub scri ber).

SMS (short messages)
SMS (Short Mes sa ge Ser vi ce) al lows you to send/re cei ve text mes sa ges to/from ot her SMS-com pa ti ble te le pho nes in the fi xed-li ne net work or to/from cell pho nes. The in for ma ti on for a new SMS is shown in the dis play of the cor re spon ding ter mi nal de vi ce af ter this in for ma ti on has been trans fer red. De pen ding on the ter mi nal de vi ce being used, pre set or self-ge ner ated short mes sa ges can be trans mit ted. Short mes sa ges are in put using the key block of the te le pho ne. A short mes sa ge is re stric ted to 160 cha ­rac ters. Additional costs are charged when an SMS is transmitted.
Sen ding/Re cei ving of SMS mes sa ges is pos si ble using ana log or ISDN pho nes. You can al so use dif fe rent sys tem te le pho nes for sen ding text mes sa ges. The sys tem te le pho nes can on ly uti li ze this
fea tu re (SMS) in con juncti on with the PABX. Sen ding/Re cei ving of SMS mes sa ges is on ly pos si ble:
· If you have ap plied for this fea tu re for your USB port (by cal ling the SMS cen ter of your ser vi ce pro vi der
and com ple ting the ap pli ca ti on procedure).
· If the num ber for the SMS cen ter for your ser vi ce pro vi der is sto red in the PABX.
· When the caller’s (sender’s) num ber is also trans mit ted and this num ber dis play ed at the re cei ving party.
· Ess en ti al ly, you can aut ho ri ze all ter mi nal de vi ces for SMS.
· Wit hin a team call as signment con fi gu ra ti on you can only as sign one te le pho ne (ana log or ISDN) with SMS
aut ho ri za ti on in or der that the SMSs re ach that specific phone.
· You can only as sign one out going num ber (MSN) to an SMS-aut ho ri zed te le pho ne. As signment is made in
PC con fi gu ra ti on in the sec ti on »In ter nal sub scri ber« un der the tab »Pho ne num ber«. Log-in at the SMS cen ter and re cei ving of the SMSs are then made using this number.
· If you en ter an SMS-aut ho ri zed te le pho ne in the team call al lo ca ti on (in the sec ti on »Ex ter nal num bers«) in
se ve ral teams with dif fe rent MSNs, the SMS will only be re cei ved at the te le pho ne with the num ber en te red as the outgoing number.

Transmission of user-defined characters (UUS1)
You can send text mes sa ges from one ISDN ter mi nal de vi ce to anot her ISDN ter mi nal wit hout ha ving to call that par ­ti cu lar sub scri ber. The re are no ad di tio nal char ges for trans mis si on of the se types of messages.
The in for ma ti on about a new text mes sa ge is shown in the dis play of the cor re spon ding ter mi nal de vi ce af ter this in ­for ma ti on has been trans fer red. De pen ding on the ty pe of ISDN ter mi nal de vi ce used, the se text mes sa ges may be de ­fault mes sa ges, or free ly ge ner ated texts. You can on ly use this per for man ce fea tu re if it is sup por ted by the ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces. Plea se re fer to the ope ra ­ting in struc tions for your ISDN terminal devices for proper use.
You can al so uti li ze the trans mis si on of text mes sa ges from and to ex ter nal te le pho nes if the fea tu re »UUS1 (User to User Sig na ling1)« has been ac ti vat ed for your con nec ti on. Ask your net work ser vi ce provider for details.
Information from the ISDN network (MWI)
The MWI fea tu re al lows your ser vi ce pro vi der to in form you if new mes sa ges for you are ac tu al ly avai la ble. For ex am ­ple, if you ha ve a new e-mail mes sa ge in your mail box or on the ser ver of your In ter net pro vi der, MWI will no ti fy you.

Automatic changeover of authorization for external calls
Do you need to re vo ke or grant aut ho ri za ti on pri vi le ges of cer tain sub scri bers / ter mi nal de vi ces of the PABX for ma ­king ex ter nal calls? You can spe ci fy se pa ra te ly for each te le pho ne / ter mi nal de vi ce whet her the aut ho ri za ti on pri vi le ges for ma king ex ­ter nal calls are to be re vo ked or gran ted for a cer tain time de fi ned in the ca len dar. Af ter the aut ho ri za ti on pri vi le ges ha ve been chan ged au to ma ti cal ly, the user concerned will not be able to place any external calls.
No ope ra ting ac tions are re qui red for this functi on. In PC con fi gu ra ti on you can mark (spe ci fy) the user for which call aut ho ri za ti on is to be chan ged. The ca len dar used to de ter mi ne when chan geo ver is to ta ke pla ce can be set in PC configuration.
Note Emer gen cy calls using ter mi nal de vi ces pro vi ded for this pur po se, or emer gen cy num bers, are ex empt from this aut ho ri za ti on pri vi le ge chan ge.
Extended adressing (Sub-addressing)
An ISDN ter mi nal de vi ce can be rea ched at a cer tain MSN. Using the fea tu re »SUB« (Sub ad dres sing) you can ex pand the ad dres sing functi on for a ter mi nal de vi ce with a cer tain MSN. Sub ad dres sing is trans fer red trans pa rent ly by the PABX.
You can on ly uti li ze this fea tu re if the fea tu re »SUB« (Sub ad dres sing) is ac ti ve for your con nec ti on and if it is sup por ted by the ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces in vol ved. Plea se re fer to the ope ra ting in struc tions for your ISDN ter mi nal devices for proper use.
Calendar
You ha ve a set rou ti ne and are eit her in the office or at ho me at cer tain ti mes du ring the day. But let’s say that you want to ta ke your calls in the hob by room on Sun days. You can set a ca len dar in the call dis tri bu ti on for each team. The two team call mo des Day and Night will then be swit ­ched au to ma ti cal ly ba sed on the da ta in the ca len dar. For ex am ple, let’s say you wish to chan ge the aut ho ri za ti on pri vi le ges for a cer tain user for af ter bu si ness hours. When con fi gu ring your PABX you can spe ci fy se pa ra te ly for each user whet her that user’s aut ho ri za ti on for ex ter nal calls is to be chan ged over au to ma ti cal ly. Chan geo ver is per for med in ac cor dan ce with the da ta in the as sig ned ca len ­dar. You can pro gram two se pa ra te ca len dars for the PABX using your PC. It is al so pos si ble to chan ge over ha ve chan geo ­ver bet ween a day and night call mo de per for med au to ma ti cal ly at a time you spe ci fy. Dif fe rent day/night chan geo ­ver ti mes can be se lec ted for each day of the week. A ca len dar con sists of four switching times, which, in turn, can be specifically assigned to the individual days of the week.

Data packet transfer (X.31)
You can con nect a da ta ter mi nal that ope ra tes in com pli an ce with the X. 31 trans mis si on stan dard (da ta trans fer in D chan nel) to the in ter nal ISDN con nec ti on of your PABX. For ex am ple a cash re gis ter ter mi nal for elec tro nic pay ment with ec ban king cards, cre dit cards, ATM cards or cus to mer cards. You must ma ke spe ci al set tings in the Pro fes sio nal Con fi gu ra tor for the PABX sys tem in order to use these types of terminals.
You can on ly use this fea tu re if the fea tu re »X. 31« is ac ti vat ed for your con nec ti on and if it is sup por ted by the ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces. Plea se re fer to the ope ra ting in struc tions for the ter mi nal devices involved.
Protection of data link
You are in the middle of sen ding out se ve ral fax mes sa ges. The fea tu re »Call wai ting« is con fi gu red at the con nec ti on for your fax ma chi ne. If you re cei ve a call at a dif fe rent fax de vi ce at the sa me time, da ta trans fer will be in ter fe red with, or even dis rup ted com ple te ly by the call wai ting sig nal. »Call wai ting« is sup pres sed at the ana log port for fax de vi ces to en su re cor rect da ta ex chan ge at all ti mes and to pre ­vent any pos si ble in ter fer en ce sig nal. You can de fi ne cer tain ty pes of ter mi nal de vi ces for ana log ports in PC Con fi gu ra ti on. As soon as you spe ci fy an dif fe ­rent ty pe of con nec ti on than »Te le pho ne«, e. g.»,Mo dem« or »fax group 3«, the call waiting function will be deactivated for that connection.

If you di al one of the se emer gen cy call num berst he num ber is re cog ni zed by the PABX and a B chan nel “freed” automatically by the PABX for an emergency call.
You can en ter up to six (6) emer gen cy num bers du ring PC con fi gu ra ti on. Emer gen cy num bers are not af fec ted by any call aut ho ri za ti on pa ra me ters or call con trol that are configured.
For the functi on »Ma king calls with di rect ex chan ge li ne ac cess« the ex ter nal ISDN con nec ti on is ta ken and cal ling is per mit ted. If the ex ter nal B chan nels are bu sy, a B chan nel is freed (re lea sed) and the par ties con duc ting their call on that chan nel will he ar a bu sy sig nal. An emer gen cy call al rea dy in progress is not interrupted.
For the functi on »Ma king calls wit hout di rect ex chan ge li ne ac cess« the in ter nal con nec ti on is bu sy and in ter nal calls can be ma de. You must di al a »0« be fo re ma king an ex ter nal call. If all of the ex ter nal B chan nels are bu sy, one B chan ­nel is dis con nec ted and the par ties con duc ting their call on that chan nel will he ar a bu sy sig nal. An emer gen cy call al ­rea dy in progress is not interrupted.
Note If calls are in pro gress using two ISDN te le pho nes on the same in ter nal ISDN bus, it is not pos si ble to in itia te an emer gen cy call from a third ISDN te le pho ne on this bus.
Dial ranges
Du ring con fi gu ra ti on you can de fi ne re stric tions for pla cing ex ter nal calls for cer tain ter mi nal devices. Dia ling re gions are not ac ti vat ed in the de fault set tings. In PC con fi gu ra ti on you can as sign each ter mi nal de vi ce in di -
vi du al ly to call control. The num bers lis ted in the Re stric ted Num bers tab le (in the Sec ti on »Re stric ted Num bers«) can not be di aled using
the ana log ter mi nal de vi ces in clu ded in the as so cia ted dia ling re gi on. For ex am ple, the en try of the num ber »0190« in the list would pre vent calls being ma de to cost ly ser vi ce pro vi ders. The en tries in the un re stric ted num bers tab le (in the Sec ti on »Un re stric ted num bers«) can can cel a por ti on of the re ­stric tions im po sed on num bers in call re stric ti on. For ex am ple, if the num ber »0190123456« is en te red in the un re ­stric ted num bers tab le, this num ber may be di aled, even if all »0190« num bers ha ve been in hi bi ted by call re stric ti on. If two iden ti cal num bers (iden ti cal se quen ce of di gits and sa me num ber of di gits) are entered as both barred and restricted, then these numbers can not be dialed.
If the pre fix num ber for a dif fe rent net work ser vi ce pro vi der is di aled from a num ber that is in hi bi ted by the dia ling re gi on, that dia ling re gi on is not active.
Note Sub scri bers wit hout aut ho ri za ti on for ex ter nal calls can ob tain the aut ho ri za ti on to make ex ter nal calls to the se num bers.
Anot her pos si ble set ting op ti on is the re gio nal num bers. The users can not ma ke any do mes tic long-dis tan ce or in ­ter na tio nal calls. Ten (10) spe ci al num bers can be con fi gu red for the se cal ling pri vi le ges; the se num bers can be used to ma ke do mes tic long-dis tan ce or in ter na tio nal calls. A spe ci al num ber can con sist of a com ple te pho ne num ber or parts of a number (for example the first few digits).
Time acceptance
You can ac ti va te or de ac ti ve the time ac cep tan ce functi on from the ISDN net work. This fea tu re is re qui red, in ca se the ISDN net work do es not trans mit the time cor rect ly. In the event of a loss of po wer, all sto red con tents (pro gram and ap pli ca ti on da ta) are re tai ned in the PABX wit hout any chan ges. The in ter nal clock for the PABX sys tem is up da ­ted au to ma ti cal ly du ring the next ex ter nal call (if con fi gu red). The nu me ric code of the sys tem park ed in qui riy al lows the col lea gue to accept the call from any telephone.
This pro ce du re is pos si ble from ana log, ISDN, and sys tem te le pho nes. The sys tem park ed in qui ry is in itia ted with the in qui ry call fea tu re. The cal led sub scri ber uses the in qui ry call fea tu re to di al the de fault nu me ric code (*596) or one of 4 con fi gu ra ble nu me ric codes from the in ter nal te le pho ne num ber plan. Installation sequence
This section gives you step-by-step instructions on how to install your PABX. It is important that you adhere to the installation sequence given here.
· Se lect an in stal la ti on lo ca ti on that is a ma xi mum of 1. 5 me ters away from a 230 V AC out let and the net -
work ter mi na ti on (ISDN con nec ti on) of the service provider.
· To pre vent mu tu al in ter fer en ce, do not in stall your PABX sys tem in the im me di ate vi ci ni ty of elec tro nic de -
vi ces such as ste reo equip ment, elec tro nic office equip ment or mi cro wa ve units. Avoid in stal ling your PABX near sour ces of ex ces si ve heat, e.g. ra di ators or in rooms with ex ces si ve hu mi ­di ty. The am bient temperature must be between 5 and 40°C.
· Ha ving iden ti fied the ap pro pria te lo ca ti on, pla ce the dril ling tem pla te on the se lec ted moun ting lo ca ti on
and en su re that it is per fect ly per pen di cu lar. Take care to keep the spa ces as spe ci fied on the drilling template.
· Mark the dril ling points on the wall using the dril ling tem pla te.
· En su re that all the con tact sur fa ces have firm con tact with the wall. en su re that the re are no po wer li nes, ca -
bles, etc. lo ca ted at or un der the mar ked dril ling holes.
· Drill the three moun ting ho les at the mar ked po si tions. When using an cho ring studs, use a 6 mm ma son ry
drill to drill the ho les and Put in the dowels.
· Screw two of the screws into the two top do wels in the wall such that the re is a gap of about 5 mm bet ween
the head of the screw and the wall.

Ope ning the PABX: »C« is the front of the PABX sys tem. Pull the two plas tic springs mar ked »A« out ward un til the co ver is re lea sed. Lift off the co ­ver ca re ful ly to ward the re ar. It can then be ea si ly lif ted off. The ter mi nal pa nel is then vi si ble un der the enclosure cover.
· Hang the PABX on the screws by in ser ting the screw he ads into the rear pa nel moun ting ho les.
· Af ter this, screw the third screw in tight ly at the mar ked po si ti on to se cu re the PABX on the wall.
· In stall the jacks for the ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces and the ana log ter mi nal de vi ces and Con nect the jacks with
the PABX.
· Plug the ter mi nal de vi ce con nec tors into the jacks.
· If you wish to con fi gu re your PABX sys tem your self via the PC, you can do this via the USB port on the
PABX, or at the in ter nal ISDN con nec ti on or the Ether net port. To con fi gu re your sys tem via the in ter nal ISDN con nec ti on, you must have an ope ra tio nal ISDN PC card in ­stal led in your PC. Con nect your PC and PABX sys tem via the in stal led ISDN jacks. To con fi gu re the sys tem via the PC port con nect the PC port of your PABX sys tem to the USB port of the PC using the PC con nec ting cord supp lied with the sys tem. To con fi gu re the sys tem via Ether net con nect the Ether net port of the PC to the LAN1 port of your PABX system using a Cat.5 connecting cord.
· Clo se the en clo su re. To clo se the PABX, in sert the cat ches (on the back of the bot tom of the en clo su re) into
the ope nings in the PABX en clo su re co ver. Press down on the co ver at the front un til it catches.
· Con nect port »S0: EXT« to the net work ter mi na ti on unit via the ISDN con nec ting cord.
Note The mains plug for the net work ter mi na ti on unit does not have to be plug ged in to ope ra te the PABX.
· You can now use your te le pho ne sys tem.

You can con nect On ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces di rect ly to the PABX sys tem. The in ter nal ISDN con nec ti on of the PABX pro vi des 2. 5 watts of po wer for con nec ting at least two (2) ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces. Furt her ter mi nal de vi ces can be in stal led via a hard wi red ISDN bus. Plea se re ad the in struc tions for hard wi ring in the installation manual on the CD.
Analog connections
On ly ana log ter mi nal de vi ces with to ne dia ling (DTMF dia ling) should be con nec ted to the ana log ports. The re call flash but ton must exe cu te the flash functi on. The functions des cri bed in the ope ra ting and con fi gu ra ti on in struc ­tions can be used wit hout any re stric tions with these terminal devices.
Note Flash du ra ti on de tec ti on can be set by PC con fi gu ra ti on.
The PABX is equip ped with two ty pes of in ter nal con nec tions:
· Four con nec tions a/b1...a/b4 for hard-wi ring of out lets.
Af ter you have plug ged a ter mi nal de vi ce into the RJ12 jack of the PABX, you may not use the as so cia ted fi ­xed con nec ti on a/b1 and a/b2.
· Two ana log ter mi nal de vi ces can be con nec ted using RJ12 con nec tors at the RJ12 jack.

USB/PC interface
The USB port is used for lin king a PC to the PABX sys tem.
Note The USB port of the PABX functions as a USB net work card. This al lows you to per form PC con fi gu ra ti on of the ISDN rou ter the same way as for Ether net in stal la ti on
Use the USB con nec ting cord supp lied with the sys tem for this. If you use a dif fe rent USB con nec ting cord en su re that the dis tan ce bet ween the PABX and the PC do es not ex ceed fi ve me ters, de pen ding on the ty pe of USB con nec ting cord you are using. The PABX sys tem USB port is rea dy for ope ra ti on at the PC con nec ted to the sys tem when the LED »USB« lights up and stays lit. PC ap pli ca tions that run via the USB con nec ti on can be start ed. The LED will blink when the USB dri ver is ac ti ve at the PC con nec ted to the sys tem and data is being exchanged via the USB port.
Ethernet connection LAN1
The port de sig na ted LAN 1 is set au to ma ti cal ly to the ma xi mum da ta trans fer ra te (from 10 Mbits/ se mi-du plex up to 100 Mbit/s full du plex) for the op po si te ter mi nal (PC). Use a net work ca ble for this (CAT.5, 1:1 with RJ-45 con nec tors at both ends).
Connecting the DSL modem to the Ethernet (10BaseT) port)
If you ha ve a DSL con nec ti on you must con nect your DSL mo dem to the WAN port of the PABX sys tem. Use a net ­work ca ble for this (CAT. 5, 1:1 with RJ-45 con nec tors at both ends). This ca ble may be in clu ded in the stan dard de li ­very sco pe for your DSL modem.
Note Plea se be sure to use a DSL-mo dem with an Ether net (10Ba seT) port.

Module installation

· Num bers 20...29 are set for the »Con nec ti on of ISDN ter mi nal de vi ces« on the in ter nal ISDN bus.

40…43 for DSL.
· In ter nal ser vi ce num ber: The in ter nal num ber 55 has been as sig ned as the ser vi ce num ber. This num ber is

Your PABX is equip ped with an in ter nal »Pho ne num ber plan« (see pa ge 53) that can be edi ted. Professional Configurator:

The call da ta re cords that are re ad out can be eva lua ted using va ri ous sor ting and fil te ring functions, or ex port ed for pro ces sing in ot her pro grams. Telephone Directory Manager:

You can ac cess the PABX te le pho ne di rec to ry with all pho nes con nec ted with the sys ­tem. Sys tem te le pho nes can al so use the PABX me nu. Ot her te le pho nes can use a code to di al from the te le pho ne di ­rec to ry. En tries are ad ded to the di rec to ry using the Te le pho ne Di rec to ry Ma na ger on the CD. The im port/ex port functi on of the te le pho ne di rec to ry ma na ger al lows im por ted or exported data to be edited and processed in other programs.
ControlCenter:
The Con trol Cen ter mo ni tors the ac ti vi ties of the rou ter for estab lis hing and se ve ring a con nec ti on. It in di ca tes for ins tan ce: the pro vi der used for the cur rent con nec ti on, the ty pe of con nec ti on (ISDN or DSL), the IP ad dress, the du ­ra ti on, the port, the up- or downloa ded da ta vo lu me. You can al so ter mi na te an on going connection or establish a new one.
Download Manager:
Using this pro gram you can lo ad new sys tem soft wa re via your PC in to the PABX. TAPI-Configurator:

Initial Commissioning and Minimum Configuration

Connecting the DSL modem to the Ethernet (10BaseT) port
If you ha ve a DSL con nec ti on you must con nect your DSL mo dem to the LAN port of the PABX sys tem. Use a net work ca ble for this (CAT. 5, 1:1 with RJ-45 con nec tors at both ends). This ca ble may be in clu ded in the stan dard de li very sco pe for your DSL modem.
Note Plea se be sure to use a DSL-mo dem with an Ether net (10Ba seT) port.
Connecting a pcs via USB
At pre sent, on ly Mi cro soft Wind ows ope ra ting sys tems are sup por ted for con nec ti on of a PC to the PABX sys tem via the USB port.
Con nect your PC to the PABX sys tem using the USB ca ble supp lied with the PABX sys tem. When both de vi ces (PABX and PC) are swit ched on, the PC will re cog ni ze the lin ked PABX sys tem and in stal la ti on of a de vi ce dri ver is then start ed. Then, just fol low the in struc tions shown on the screen.

When you ha ve suc cess ful ly com ple ted the con nec ti on and con fi gu ra ti on the LED mar ked »USB« on the PABX sys ­tem lights up; when da ta is being ex chan ged via the USB port this LED will fli cker in the rhythm of data exchange.
The USB dri ver supp lied with the sys tem (RNDIS) is lo ca ted in the de vi ce ma na ger of the Wind ows con trol pa nel as a vir tu al net work adap ter. Com mu ni ca ti on bet ween the PABX sys tem and the PC con nec ted via USB is ef fec ted via the TCP-IP protocol.

Connection of a PC through Ethernet or Fast Ethernet
Re gard less of the ope ra ting sys tem (Li nux, MAC OS, MS-Wind ows, Palm-OST,... ) Or the ty pe of de vi ce (PC, MAC, PDA, Web pad) that you are using you can uti li ze the PABX sys tem In ter net ac cess functi on when the de vi ces are con ­nec ted via Ether net or Fast Ether net. The PABX sys tem is pro vi ded with the in ter fa ce LAN 1. The port de sig na ted LAN is set au to ma ti cal ly to the ma xi mum da ta trans fer ra te (from Mbits/ se mi-du plex up to 100 Mbit/s full duplex) for the opposite terminal (PC).
Use a stan dard Cat. 5 net work ca ble for this con nec ti on. If con nec ti on has been im ple men ted suc cess ful ly, the LED mar ked »LAN« on the PABX lights up; when da ta is being ex chan ged via the cor re spon ding port, this LED fli ckers in the rhythm of data transfer.

Connecting several PCs via Ethernet
You can con nect a PC di rect ly to the LAN 1 ports and anot her one to the USB port. If you wish to con nect mo re than two PCs you will need a hub or switch.

Configuring the PCs
IP addresses
Af ter you con nect a PC IP ad dres ses must be as sig ned. When doing this you must en su re that the IP ad dres ses as sig ­ned to the PCs and the PABX sys tems are in the sa me IP net work. This al so ap plies if you wish to uti li ze com mon re ­sour ces among se ve ral PCs in a LAN (for ex am ple re lea sed di rec to ries, net work dri ves, net work prin ters). All PCs lo ­ca ted wit hin the network require an IP-address.
In its in iti al sta tus the PABX is con fi gu red with the IP ad dress 192. 168. 1. 250 and the DHCP ser ver in te gra ted in to the PABX is ac ti vat ed, mea ning that any PCs that are con nec ted must be set to re cei ve their IP ad dress au to ma ti cal ly. This mo de is re com men ded to dis pen se with the com pli ca ted, ma nu al con fi gu ra ti on of the IP ad dres ses for the pcs that would otherwise be required.
Note If you are al rea dy using a net work and whish to use the PABX as the DHCP ser ver you may have to trans fer ot her pa ­ra me ters via DHCP to the pcs.
Note Only chan ge the se pa ra me ters if your exi sting net work ex pli cit ly de mands this. Ar bi tra ri ly chan ged pa ra me ters may re sult in a com ple te loss of all net work functions.
You can configure the following parameters:
Default TTL
If you can not re ach cer tain si tes in the In ter net (a »ping« is ans we red with the mes sa ge »des ti na ti on un rea cha ble«) it may be mea ning ful to in crea se the »TTL« pa ra me ter (de fault is 64) and spe ci fy that all PCs con fi gu red via DHCP to be re-as sig ned con fi gu ra ti on from the DHCP ser ver (or simply restart your pcs).
MTU
The »MTU« pa ra me ter is used for de fi ning the da ta pa cket si ze used in the LAN. On ly pa ckets with a ma xi mum »pay ­lo ad« of 1452 by tes can be trans por ted via a DSL In ter net por tal (when the PPPoE pro to col is used, for ex am ple with T-On li ne. Pa ckets in the PABX sys tem should not be first split up and re ply pa ckets not re-as sem bled. It is the re fo re ex pe dient to use an »MTU« of 1452 by tes to achie ve the grea test pos si ble da ta throughput ra te for the DSL con nec ti ­on. This may, ho we ver, re sult in the da ta transfer rate in the LAN being reduced slightly.
DHCP lease time
The lea se time is the time (in se conds) for which a LAN client re cei ves an as sig ned IP ad dress be fo re that ad dress is fet ched and re tur ned to the DHCP ser ver ad dress pool. A LAN client can ex tend the lea se time automatically.
Default gateway
You should en ter 0.0.0.0 (pla ce hol der for the PABX sys tem IP ad dress) as the »de fault gate way« if In ter net ac cess it to be pro vi ded via the PABX system.
Domain Suffixes
You should on ly con fi gu re the pa ra me ters »Do main Na mes« and »DNS ser ver« when you are ope ra ting a DNS ser ver wit hin the LAN.

Netbios Name Servers
The »Net bi os Na me ser ver« pa ra me ter is used for the na me de fi ni ti on for Wind ows PCs when you use a WINS ser ver in the LAN. This pa ra me ter should on ly be con fi gu red when you ope ra te a WINS server in the LAN.
Time Servers
The pa ra me ter »Time Ser vers« is used for an noun cing the IP ad dress for the »Time lea see« when your PCs di rect (Wind ows XP, Li nux) the NTP (Net work Time Protocol).
DNS Servers
DNS que ries from com pu ters in the LAN are nor mal ly for war ded to one or mo re ex ter nal DNS ser vers by the DNS proxy. The ad dres ses for the ex ter nal DNS ser vers can be ob tai ned dy na mi cal ly, or can be per ma nent ly con fi gu red in the rou ter. Ad dres ses can be in put at three DNS servers to reduce online time.
DHCP server and IP addressing
PCs can be pro vi ded with a ma jor por ti on of the con fi gu ra ti on re qui red for LAN and In ter net ac cess via the DHCP (Dy na mic Host Con fi gu ra ti on Pro to col. The DHCP ser ver in te gra ted in to the PABX is ca pa ble of supp ly ing cor re ­spon ding con fi gu ra tions to up to 100 PCs (clients). IP ad dres ses are dy na mi cal ly al lo ca ted to the clients. The DHCP ser ver task of the PABX sys tem is activated in the initial status of the PABX.
You can con fi gu re the in te gra ted DHCP ser ver un der »Net work ad dress al lo ca ti on«. You can con fi gu re the first IP ad dress as sig ned by the DHCP ser ver. The re qui red num ber of IP ad dres ses is as sig ned
to the PCs (DHCP clients) in as cen ding or der. The re are al ways 4 ad di tio nal IP ad dres ses re ser ved for DHCP ser vers for PCs in te gra ted in to the LAN via Blue tooth (see Pa ge 51) or RAS (see Pa ge 77). If the in te gra ted DHCP ser ver is ac ­ti vat ed the 4 IP ad dres ses which co me af ter the con fi gu red DHCP ad dress ran ge are used for RAS clients. When the DHCP ser vers are de-ac ti vat ed the 4 IP ad dres ses that co me af ter the set DHCP start address will be used for RAS clients.
If you se lect a con fi gu ra ti on in which so me com pu ters re cei ve their IP ad dres ses via DHCP, whi le ot hers use set (ma ­nu al ly con fi gu red) IP ad dres ses, the fol lo wing cri te ria must be fulfilled:
· All IP ad dres ses must be long to the same IP net work, mea ning that the net work part of the IP ad dress (and
with it, the net mask) must be iden ti cal. Ex am ple:

Configuration of the Internet Service providers (ISP)
An In ter net Ser vi ce Pro vi der pro vi des you with an »en tran ce por tal« to the In ter net. A dis tincti on is ma de bet ween ISPs with whom you ha ve a con tract (for ex am ple T-On li ne) and In ter net-by-call pro vi ders that bill you through your pho ne bill (for example Freenet).
The ty pe of ac cess is in de pen dent of the ta riff char ges; this can be ba sed on ac tu al time, vo lu me or be a flat rate. You can set up a con nec ti on to the In ter net with your PABX sys tem as fol lows:
· Dial-up con nec tions via ISDN (using PPP pro to col, with one or two ISDN B chan nels, i. e. at 64 kBit/s or
128 kBit/s). The se ty pes of con nec tions re qui re ac cess data with the num ber to be di aled, the user name and pass word and, in some ca ses, ot her in for ma ti on such as the IP ad dress of the name ser ver and any in for ma ti on about the data com pres si on method that is used (VJH).
· Using xDSL (for ex am ple ADSL - T-DSL) in con juncti on with a DSL mo dem that is com pa ti ble with your
ISP via PPPoE. The se con nec tions re qui re your user name and pass word as access data.
· Via xDSL (e.g.SDSL) in con juncti on with a DSL mo dem that is com pa ti ble with your ISP with a set, pub lic
IP ad dress. The se con nec tions re qui re the pub lic IP ad dress that you have been as sig ned, the IP ad dress of the next gate way (next hop) and the IP ad dress for the name ser ver of your provider.
Internet-by-Call
The Pro fes sio nal Con fi gu ra tor of the PABX sys tem con tains a list of In ter net-by-call ISPs from which you can se lect a pro vi der. The ad van ta ge he re is that you can set up an In ter net con nec ti on im me di ate ly wit hout first ha ving to agree to a con tract. (The re qui si te ac cess da ta are al rea dy con tai ned in the con fi gu ra ti on soft wa re for the In ter net-by-call ISPs that are lis ted). You can chan ge this con fi gu ra ti on when you de ci de to con clu de a con tract with a pro vi der for example (at present required for all DSL providers).
· Fall back con fi gu ra ti on for se ve ral ISPs »In ter net al ways works«
· You can con fi gu re more than one IPS in your PABX sys tem.
· You have one DSL con nec ti on that is not al ways avai la ble.
Here, you can con fi gu re the PABX sys tem so that it au to ma ti cal ly at tempts to set up an In ter net con nec ti on via DSL. If this at tempt is un suc cess ful In ter net con nec ti on via ISDN can be pro gram med using a different ISP.
· You are using a pro vi der that is not al ways avai la ble (some In ter net-by-call pro vi ders have very rea so na ble
ra tes, but their ac cess no des are over loa ded due to he avy traf fic du ring peak ti mes). Here you can sim ply con fi gu re se ve ral In ter net-by-call pro vi ders. The PABX sys tem will au to ma ti cal ly at tempt to set up a con ­nec ti on with one of the configured ISPs.
You can ea si ly chan ge the or der of the ISPs with which the In ter net con nec ti on is to be set up (»Fall back or der« down / up). You can al so set the num ber of and in ter vals bet ween the se at tempts at set ting up an In ter net con nec ti on for each ISP that has been con fi gu red. When the wai ting pe ri od bet ween the at tempts ex pi res and when the con fi gu red num ber of ac tu al at tempts is rea ched and no con nec ti on has been estab lis hed, the next ISP in the list is selected.

Con nec ti on to the In ter net is al ways set up au to ma ti cal ly by the PABX sys tem when a da ta pa cket is to be sent to the In ter net. This oc curs au to ma ti cal ly when you en ter http: //www. bintec-elmeg.com in your browser for example.
Note Bil ling of the costs is made through the te le pho ne bill from your net work pro vi der.
Discontinuing an Internet connection
· Click on the sym bol for the »Con trol Cen ter« in the task bar and se lect »Ter mi na te con nec ti on to pro vi der«.
· Af ter a set time (which can be de fi ned), du ring which the re is no data traf fic to the In ter net, the con nec ti on
is ter mi na ted au to ma ti cal ly. You can ac ti va te/de-ac ti va te this functi on in the configuration.
Note If you set the pa ra me ter »Ter mi na te on inac ti vi ty« too high, this may re sult is con si der able costs for time-ba sed char ges.
If you ha ve a flat ra te char ge with your ISP you can set the pa ra me ter »Ter mi na te on inac ti vi ty« to. In this ca se the PABX sys tem will not au to ma ti cal ly ter mi na te the In ter net con nec ti on, but will re-estab lish the con nec ti on if re qui ­red (for ex am ple af ter being dis con nec ted by the ISP). If you ha ve con fi gu red se ve ral ISPs, ma ke su re that you ma ke this set ting for the correct ISP entry in the ISP list!
Using a fallback
Let’s as su me you ha ve a DSL con nec ti on with the Deut sche Te le kom AG (Ger man Te le com) and ha ve se lec ted T-On ­li ne as your ISP.
You have configured three ISPs:
· 1. In ter net ac cess through T-DSL (T-on li ne). The PABX sys tem will use the PPPoE pro to col at the WAN
port. En ter your ac cess data (mark the ISP in the list, field »Edit«, field »Ac cess data for T-On li ne«)
· 2. In ter net ac cess via ISDN (T-On li ne). The PABX sys tem will use an ISDN dial-up con nec ti on (and the PPP
pro to col). En ter the same ac cess data (mark the ISP in the list, field »Edit«, field »Ac cess data for T-Online«).
· 3. In ter net ac cess using an In ter net-by-call pro vi der. The PABX sys tem will use an ISDN dial-up con nec ti -
on (and the PPP pro to col). When you se lect an In ter net-by-call pro vi der from the de fi ned list, the cor re ­spon ding pa ra me ters are al rea dy con fi gu red (»Access data«, »Number«).
If the re is a dis tur ban ce with the DSL con nec ti on, the PABX sys tem will, af ter a con fi gu red time pe ri od keep at temp ­ting to set up the In ter net con nec ti on for the num ber of ti mes con fi gu red in the field »Num ber of con nec ti on at ­tempts«. You can ac ti va te/de-ac ti va te this functi on in the con fi gu ra ti on. You can set the in ter vals bet ween the at ­tempts using the pa ra me ter »Time bet ween at tempts« in the con fi gu ra ti on item Net work In ter net. You can set the num ber of at tempts and the in ter val bet ween the se attempts separately for each ISP that has been configured.
Af ter that, the PABX sys tem will use the next ISP con fi gu red in the list for at temp ting to set up a con nec ti on.

If the con nec ti on is dis rup ted and an at tempt is to be ma de la ter to re-estab lish the con nec ti on, this cy cle is res tar ted be gin ning with the first en try in the list.
Firewall
When you use NAT, the PCs con nec ted to the PABX are well pro tec ted against at tacks from the In ter net. If you wish to ha ve ad di tio nal se cu ri ty you can al so use the in te gra ted pa cka ge Fil ter Fi re wall. A fi re wall acts as a lo gi -
cal wall for da ta pa ckets bet ween the In ter net and the LAN which has »ho les« for cer tain pa ckets (fi re wall ru les, al so known as fil ters), al lo wing the se pa ckets to pass through the wall. In the in iti al sta tus the fi re wall is con fi gu red such that all da ta can pass through that are sent in the direction of the Internet.
Note An ex cep ti on to this rule is the »Net bi os fil ter: This fil ter pre vents the for war ding of Net bi os name que ries from Wind ows PCs to the In ter net. As the na mes of the Wind ows PCs wit hin the LAN are not known in the In ter net, it is not mea ning ful to estab lish an In ter net con nec ti on for for war ding the name que ry (this could re sult in con si der able costs, as the se name que ries oc cur fre quent ly, mea ning that the In ter net con nec ti on would prac ti cal ly ne ver be ter ­mi na ted).
The fil ters are des cri bed by ru les who se con fi gu ra ti on re qui res ex pert knowled ge about the TCP/IP pro to col fa mi ly. The fi re wall of your PABX sys tem can be ea si ly con fi gu red using a Fil ter Wi zard in which you need to in di ca te (in plain text) whet her you wish to al low de fi ned ap pli ca tions access to the Internet.
To start the Fil ter Wi zard in the con fi gu ra ti on item »Net work fil ters« click the but ton »Fil ter Wi zard«. The fol lo wing mask is then dis play ed af ter a war ning that star ting the Fil ter Wi zard will de le te all fil ters that ha ve been con fi gu red up to this time:
The Fil ter Wi zard can be res tar ted at any time to lo ad a mo di fied (edi ted) con fi gu ra ti on in to the PABX sys tem. Click the but ton »Send con fi gu ra ­ti on da ta« to trans fer and ac ti va te the fil ters. Af ­ter the da ta is sent the new con fi gu ra ti on is ac ti ­vat ed in the PABX sys tem and any on going Internet connection is terminated.
The con nec ti on is re-estab lis hed ho we ver as soon as a da ta pa cket must be rou ted to the In ter net which the fi re wall lets pass in ac cor dan ce with its configuration.
Note Note that when you click the but ton Send, the en ti re con fi gu ra ti on for the PABX sys tem will be over writ ten. It is stron gly re com men ded to read out the con fi gu ra ti on for the PABX sys tem and sto ring it in a file pri or to chan ging the fil ter con fi gu ra ti on.

Dial-in into the LAN (RAS)
Using the Re mo te Ac cess Ser ver (RAS) a field re pre sen ta ti ve, for ex am ple, can call in to the lo cal net work from an ex ­ter nal lo ca ti on and then via the lo cal net work ac cess the In ter net. Ac cess from an ex ter nal lo ca ti on is al so pos si ble via an ISDN con nec ti on. Ex ter nal ac cess is pro vi ded with user-na me and pass word pro tec ti on. If the call is ma de from an ex ter nal lo ca ti on on ­ly, the pho ne num ber can al so be mo ni to red as an ad ded pro tec ti on fea tu re. Ac cess can be en ab led for up to 8 users. A Wind ows en ab le (ac cess to com pu ter, fi les or printers) and Internet enable can also be configured for each user.
