Beolink 1000

The key to your Beovision MX 1500

Beolink 1000 enables you to remote control all the functions in your Beovision MX 1500. Just point it in the direction of the TV-set when pressing the buttons.

The text on this page explains briefly the The buttons not referred to are for other Bang & Olufsen products functions of the appropriate buttons. Use only 1.5 V batteries (Alkaline, size AAA) when replacing flat batteries.

Setting up your TV-set

Connections

Please refer to the diagrams on the flap.

Antenna:

  • Connect the antenna plug to the antenna socket on the rear of the TV-set.
  • If reception is good in your area, you may rely on the enclosed indoor antenna to pick up the signals. Fasten the antenna to the TV-set as indicated on the diagram and point it in the direction required for optimal reception.
  • If you want to connect a video to your TV-set, you must connect the antenna plug to the video instead. Then connect the video to the antenna socket on the TV-set using the antenna cable supplied with the video.

Mains:

Plug the mains lead into the mains socket on the wall. The voltage in your area must correspond to the voltage indicated on the label on the rear of your TV-set.

Placement:

Leave a space of at least 5 cm above and to the sides of the TV-set for adequate ventilation. Place the TV-set on a stable surface, upright or tilting slightly backwards.

Switching on

Press the mains switch on the left, below the TV screen. You will now see the TV station attached to the preset number last in use. The

preset number appears in the display window below the TV screen. You may now proceed to tune or operate your TV-set using the remote control.

Stand-by mode

If you switch off by pressing on the remote control, the TV-set reverts to stand-by mode, as indicated by the red light in the display window below the TV screen.

The TV-set is designed to be left in stand-by mode when not in use.

Finding and presetting TV stations

You can preset up to 35 different TV stations on the preset numbers 0-34. The preset numbers appear in the display window below the TV screen. To find and preset a TV station do as follows:

  • 1. Press TV
  • 2. Key in the preset number on which you want to store the station, e.g. 1
  • 3. Press ๐Ÿ“จ to start searching for the station desired
  • 4. Wait for the TV-set to find the station
  • 5. If fine tuning is required, press GOTO and then < or โ‰ซ as required
  • 6. Press STORE twice

Repeat steps 2 to 6 to find and preset other stations.

Once a station has been stored, you need only press the corresponding preset number to see that station.

VHF, band III

During search the TV-set scans the VHF and UHF frequency bands (including all S-channels). The symbols in the display window will give you information about where the TV-set is currently searching:

The digits 0 and 8 represent the lower and upper ends of each frequency band.

Please note! Pressing the mains switch on the TV-set lightly another time also makes the TVset search for TV stations.

Tuning the TV-set for video reception

The TV-set must be tuned to the channel on which the video sends its signals. This is usually channel 37, or any other channel within the 30-40 range on the UHF band.

Tune the TV-set as usual and preset the video channel on any number available between 0-34. When playing back a video tape, select this preset number on your TV-set.

Presetting preferred picture and sound levels

The picture and sound levels have been preset to average levels at the factory. You may, if you like, change these preset levels.

Picture (brilliance and colour):

Press PICTURE once to adjust brilliance (as indicated by br in the display window) or

press PICTURE twice to adjust colour (as indicated by co in the display window)

2. Immediately press or or to raise or lower the appropriate level

3. Press STORE, PICTURE, STORE to store the new levels

To adjust contrast, turn the tiny knob on the rear of the TV-set as required.

  • Press SOUND once to adjust the sound (as indicated by So in the display window)
  • 2. Immediately press ๐Ÿ“‰ or ๐Ÿ–‚ to raise or lower the volume level
  • 3. Press STORE, SOUND, STORE to store the new level

These preset levels are the levels you will see and hear whenever you switch on the TV-set.

Teletext

Please note! Teletext is not standard in all Beovision MX 1500 models.

To switch to teletext, press TEXT.

The most commonly used teletext functions are explained on the page showing the Beolink 1000. The following teletext functions, however, require more detailed instruction.

Certain teletext pages are accompanied by a special time signal. This enables you to instruct such a page to appear at some specified time:

  • Select page number Press [PLAY] (= TIME) Key in the time you require using four digits Press [SHIFT], then [GO TO] (= UPDATE) The TV picture will return instantly and the cue FOUND will appear in the upper righthand corner of the screen at the time you have requested Press [S] (= MIX) to look at the page
    • 6. Press PLAY (= TIME) again to cancel the time function

Most teletext pages are updated every now and then, i.e. new information is entered by the

teletext companies. The update function will remind you about such updates:

Select page number Press SHIFT, then GO TO (= UPDATE) The TV picture will return instantly and the cue FOUND will appear in the upper righthand corner of the screen Press SHIFT, then GO TO (= UPDATE) if you want to remove the cue FOUND When the page has been updated, the cue UPDATE will appear Press (= MIX) to look at the page

While you are waiting for a page to appear at a specified time or to be updated, do not forget that the TV-set is still in teletext mode. However, sound and picture adjustments can be carried out as usual.

If you want to return to normal TV functions, press TV.

Connection facilities

Headphones

The headphones socket is on the front panel of the TV-set (see the diagram on the flap). The socket is designed for headphones with a

6 mm jack plug. If you connect headphones, the built-in loudspeaker will be cut out.

21-pin A/V socket

This socket is for connecting any equipment supplying audio and/or CVBS or RGB signals, e.g. a video tape recorder or a home computer.

If the equipment supplies a 12 V control voltage*. the Beovision MX 1500 will switch to A/V mode automatically.

If you connect equipment not supplying such a control voltage, switching to A/V mode must be carried out manually. To do so, press SHIFT, then TV. AV will appear in the display window. Press TV again to cancel the A/V mode.

* All Bang & Olufsen videos supply a 12 V control voltage

What's wrong

No response from TV-set when using the Beolink 1000:

  • You may have accidentally pressed one of the buttons on the Beolink 1000 meant for operation of other Bang & Olufsen products. Press TV to revert to TV mode.
  • ยท Make sure that the IR-receiver in the TV-set can 'see' the Beolink 1000. If the TV-set is exposed to direct light (artificial or sunlight). the IR-signals may be diverted.
  • Make sure that the TV-set is switched on at the mains, i.e. the stand-by indicator must be lit.
  • Make sure that the batteries in the Beolink 1000 are not flat.

Poor reception quality:

  • Make sure that the antenna is properly
  • ยท Is your antenna good enough to pick up the signals available? If in doubt, consult your

Areas of excessive red light in the picture:

. This may be caused by a magnetic field in the nicture tube. Degauss the TV-set by unplugging it at the mains and let 10 minutes pass before reconnecting it.

Maintenance

  • Wipe dust off the TV-set using a dry, soft cloth. If necessary, remove grease stains or more persistent dirt using a soft cloth dipped in a solution of lukewarm water and mild detergent. Never use denatured alcohol to clean your TVset.
  • After some time (usually years) of use particles may penetrate the space behind the contrast screen, forming a thin film of dirt on its inner surface. This may affect the clarity of the picture adversely and the screen should be removed and cleaned.

Remove and replace the contrast screen using the enclosed screen remover tool.

  • Clean the contrast screen on both sides and the picture screen using a soft cloth.
  • 1. Insert the tool as indicated on the diagram 2. Grip the edge of the screen
  • 3. Pull the tool to the centre of the screen
  • 4. Pull the tool outwards while still holding at the
  • Full the tool outwards while suit holding at the lower edge of the screen. Prise the screen off.

  • 1. Replace one side of the screen in the groove provided
  • Replace the other side of the screen using the tool like a shoehorn. The ground-off edge of the tool fits the edge of the screen.

Make sure that both sides of the screen are seated properly.

For the UK market only

The wires in the mains lead supplied with this apparatus are coloured in accordance with the following code:

Blue: Neutral

  • Brown: Live
  • As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows:
  • The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.
  • The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
  • Ensure that your equipment is connected correctly. If you are in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
