NOTE: Keep all of the above contents, because they are necessary if your Keypad needs to be
updated again at a later date.
Step 1 Install Pizza Hut Update Utility to PC
1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive on the PC. The CD should automatically start the
installation process.
2. Follow the on-screen prompts: In any messages that appear on the PC screen, click OK, Next,
or Continue. The new version of the Software is now in the PC and you are ready to update the
Keypad.
Step 2 Connect Keypad to PC
Make Sure the Keypad’s Power Source is Unplugged from Electric Wall Outlet!
Do all of this Step and Step 3 (Update Keypad Application from PC) if your PC has a serial
connection/port. If your PC does not have a serial port, go to “If Your PC Does Not Have a Serial Connection/Port” instead.
1. Using null-modem serial cable number 125801, connect the 9-pin male end to the Keypad. This
cable comes with this kit. Disconnect the existing cable from the back of the Keypad to connect
the null-modem serial cable.
2. Connect the other end to the PC. If using the TT5 Keypad with the 9-pin male connector,
connect as instructed.
If using the older-style TT5 Keypad with the 25-pin connector, connect the update cable (part
number 120183) to the printer cable (part number 125801) by plugging the 9-pin ends together.
Then, connect the 25-pin end to the Keypad and the 9-pin end to the PC.
If PC port is a 25-pin male, use a 9-pin male to 25-pin female serial adapter. This adapter can
be purchased from the following sources:

Step 3 Update Keypad Application from PC
Do Not Interrupt This Process
NOTE: Make sure the Keypad is connected to the PC AND the Keypad is plugged into the electric
wall outlet before continuing.
1. Click the Windows Start button (found in the lower left hand corner of the PC screen).
2. Click Programs.
3. Click Pizza Hut Update Utility.
4. Move cursor to the right and click on the pop up box Pizza Hut Update Utility.
5. Click the Update button – this takes approximately 7 minutes.
Check Keypad display to confirm update activity. Characters should be scrolling by on
lower line of display. If not, check cable and power connections and re-try update process
from steps 1-5 above.

A status bar is displayed on the PC showing each of the files (two) as they load.
A successful update shows in the lower, left-corner of the screen.
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the printer to the Keypad.
The Keypad is now updated.
7. Remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive and return it to the kit’s box.
8. Click OK to clear the prompt message, and then click Exit to close the Pizza Hut Update
Utility.
9. Unplug the Keypad’s power source from the electric wall outlet.
10. Unplug the null-modem serial cable number 125801 from the Keypad (if still connected) and
reconnect the printer’s cable.
11. Continue with Step 4 (Apply the new Keypad Label).
If Your PC Does Not Have a Serial Connection/Port:
1. Buy a USB to Serial converter.
2. Plug in the USB to serial converter BEFORE turning on the PC, so the system sees the USB
port as it boots. You must insert the USB Driver CD into the CD-ROM drive on the PC to
install the driver. The USB Driver CD came with the USB to serial converter.
3. Insert the Pizza Hut Update Utility CD into the CD-ROM drive on the PC. The CD should
automatically start the installation process. Follow the on-screens prompts as necessary.
After the Pizza Hut Update Utility software is loaded:
NOTE: Make sure the Keypad is connected to the PC using the USB to serial converter and the
cable 125801 that came with this kit. Do Not Interrupt This Process.
4. Click the Windows Start button (found in the lower left hand corner of the PC screen).
5. Click Programs, then, click Pizza Hut Update Utility. Click Setup in the upper left corner.
6. Click Com Port in the lower right and highlight what is in the Com Port Setting box.
7. Close the Com Port screen and then click the Update button - this takes approximately 7
minutes.
Check Keypad display to confirm update activity. Characters should be scrolling by on
lower line of display. If not, check cable and power connections and re-try update process
from steps d-e above. A status bar is displayed on the PC showing each of the files (two) as
they load. A successful update shows in the lower, left-corner of the screen.
8. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the printer to the Keypad. The Keypad is now
updated.
9. Remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive and return it to the kit’s box.
10. Click OK to clear the prompt message, and then click Exit to close the Pizza Hut Update
Utility.
11. Unplug the Keypad’s power source from the electric wall outlet.
12. Unplug the null-modem serial cable number 125801 from the Keypad (if still connected) and
unplug the USB to serial converter.
13. Reconnect the printer’s cable.
14. Continue with Step 4 (Apply the new Keypad Label).
Step 4 Apply the new Keypad Label
1. Clean the Keypad’s top with an alcohol wipe before applying the new label.
2. Remove the backing from one of the new Keypad overlay labels.
3. Carefully place the label over the top of the current Keypad. Line up the label with the gold-
colored border on top of the Keypad.

Step 5 Attach Rubber Keypad Cover Using Adhesive Strip to Keypad
1. Place the rubber Keypad cover over the top of the Keypad.
2. Remove the two strips of tape to expose the adhesive on both sides.
3. Adhere the adhesive to the Keypad.
4. Plug in Keypad power source back into the electric wall outlet.
The Keypad should read Version 8.0 on the display if it has been updated properly.
Step 6 Select a Printer with the Keypad
YOU MUST SELECT A PRINTER:
1. Press the Pizza Hut button (upper right corner).
2. Press the 5 button. Display shows “Select Printer Dark Gray (9416)” OR “Select Printer Beige
(9414).”
3. Press the Cheese button until the printer you want is displayed.
4. Press the Pizza Hut button to save the setting. The printer’s LED blinks green, indicating that
the printer has been selected.
Step 7 Set the Keypad for Non-Peel or Peel
Set the label setting on the keypad to:
Non- Peel for MRD and Dough Staging and
Peel for Hot Hold Items.
1. Press the Pizza Hut button (upper right corner).
2. Press the Cheese button. Display shows “Non-Peel Mode” or “Peel Mode.”
3. Press the Cheese button until the print mode you want is displayed.
4. Press the Pizza Hut button to save the setting. The printer’s LED blinks green, indicating that
the print mode has been selected. The printer stays in this mode until changed. The default is
peel mode.
5. The Switch on the printer under the peel bar must be set to 0 for Non-Peel and 1 for peel.
The switch on the Beige 9414 Printer is under the peel bar. It must be set to 0 for NonPeel and 1 for Peel. The 9416 Dark Gray printer does not have a switch. Peel or Non-peel
is set only on the keypad as described above.
THE 2 SETTINGS MUST MATCH- YOUR PRINTER WILL NOT
PRINT IF THE SETTINGS ARE NOT BOTH FOR PEEL OR NONPEEL.
Step 8 Check each key for functionality
The new “Shift” button allows the user to print the upper selection from buttons with two choices.
An example: for Mild Wings, press the Hot Wings/Mild Wings button. For Hot Wings, press Shift
once and release, then press the Hot Wings/Mild Wings button.
NOTE: Do not press Shift and a product button at the same time.
Press Shift and release, then press a product button.
1. Press each product and quantity button to verify the Keypad is working correctly.
