Alaris IV Pumps – Wireless Configuration / Requirements
Overview
The following document describes the requirements, and process to configure “Wireless
Access” for Alaris Pumps. The scope of this document is strictly the “Wireless Access”
configuration, and does not cover any other Alaris Pump maintenance procedures. Sutter
Health IS has determined that the most efficient, cost effective method to deploy Alaris
Pumps on wireless is to use Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol or PEAP. PEAP
wireless access requires the following in order to connect to the network:
1) Active Directory (AD) Username and Password for the Alaris Pump Service Account
2) Sutter Health Public Root Certificate
3) AD Organizational Unit (OU) container to hold the Alaris Pump Service Accounts
The process and procedures to obtain these requirements will be provided in this document.
BioMedical Engineering (BioMed) will be provided a Web Site where they can select a Region
or Affiliate, and then enter an Alaris Pump Serial Number. The Web Site will automatically
provision the Pump Device Name in AD and provide a complex 25 character password,
which can then be “copy / pasted” into the Alaris Pump configuration page.
BioMed will be self-provisioning Alaris Pumps on demand, and will have the ability to change
the Alaris Pump password at ANY time, by simply using the Web Tool.
PEAP Requirements
As new Affiliates or Regions are scheduled to “Go Live” with Alaris IV Fusion Pump, the
following will need to be identified up front, and configured for PEAP access to SHMedC:
1) Regional IAS Servers need to be configured for SH_Clinical Access Policy (TC
Servers) Reference: “SHClinical IAS Policy(Affiliate).docx”.
2) Active Directory Organizational Unit (AD OU) will need to be identified and created to
hold the Alaris Pump Service Accounts. (ITAA / BIOMED / ProdEng) Reference:
ADAlarisConfig.pdf
3) Per-Affiliate Alaris Pump naming standard will need to be identified. (ProdEng /
BioMed)
4) Per-Affiliate (as needed) BioMed AD Security Group will need to be identified. This
Group will have the rights to create Service Accounts / Passwords in the AD OU
identified. (BioMed / ProdEng)
5) Alaris Pump Provisioning Web Site created for the Affiliate. This site must be
configured with the AD OU, AD Security Group and the naming standard for the
Affiliate’s Alaris Pumps. (ProdEng) Reference: AlarisWebConfig.xlsx

Web Tool walkthrough:
Open a browser and go to the following URL: https://saweb.sutterhealth.org
Select: Alaris IV Fusion Pump
Select the Site where you want to provision a pump:
Enter your AD User Name and Password:

Enter the 8-Digit Serial Number from the Alaris Pump:
And click: Generate!

Enter the Service Account Name and Password into the Alaris Pump Management Tool:
You can click “Copy account to clipboard” or “Copy password to clipboard” to copy either
one into the Windows Clipboard buffer. You can paste them into the Alaris Pump
Management tool with “CTRL-V” or you can right click in the field and select “Paste”.

If you need the “Sutter Health Root Certificate” in order to provide it to the Alaris Pump
Management Tool, you can find it at the link provided at the bottom of the page:
You can save this anywhere on your hard drive and then provide the path to the file in the
Alaris Pump Tool.
The Reporting tab can be selected to view a list of all accounts that have been provisioned
for the site. You can sort on Account Name, Password Last Set, and Last Logon.
You can download the Report as a CSV file to open in Excel if you want to review the Data.
Simply click on the “Download Report As a CSV File”.

Account Management:
Change Password:
When the Alaris Pump is brought in for service, the password should be changed. To do
this, simply run the Web Tool, and enter the same Serial Number.
The Web Tool will prompt you that the Account already exists, and when the last password
was set. Select “Yes, I want to reset the password for this account”.
Make sure to copy the new password into the Alaris Pump maintenance page.

Delete Account:
The Accounts that the Web Tool provisions are located in the following AD Structure:
Root – BioMedical Devices – IV Pumps – Site Name:
If you need to have an account deleted for any reason (wrong serial number / pump
removed from service), the Accounts Admin (ITAA) team should be contacted to delete the
account.
