1.1 Overview

The WAH1004 is a USB 2.0 3G modem that supports HSPA+ (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access) 3G network for users on-the-go. You can enjoy wireless broadband connection anytime, anywhere within 3G coverage, without additional wiring. The WAH1004 is backward compatible to GSM/ HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS, allowing you to connect to the Internet through mobile broadband connection from around the world.
CHAPTER 1

Introduction

Optionally, you can insert a micro SD card up to 32GB in size to use the WAH1004 as a portal storage device at the same time.

1.2 Ways to Manage the WAH1004

You can use the following way to manage the WAH1004.
ZyXEL 3G Modem Utility
Follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to install the utility.

1.3 Hardware Connections

See your Quick Start Guide for information on making hardware connections. You need to insert a SIM card before you can use the WAH1004.

1.4 LED

The LED of your WAH1004 indicates whether it is currently connected to a 2G or 3G network (green). The LED turns red and blinks if there is no SIM card inserted or the WAH1004 is not connected to a mobile network. The LED is off if the WAH1004 is not attached properly or the driver is not installed.

2.1 Overview

After you attach the WAH1004 to your computer and install the driver successfully, the WAH1004 automatically connects to an available mobile network using the default profile settings. You can install and use the ZyXEL 3G Modem utility to change the PIN code, check the connection status, configure the connection profile(s), send text messages, and manage the contact list.

2.2 Accessing the Utility

After you install the utility, double-click the ZyXEL 3G Modem icon in the system tray or on the desktop to open the utility. The ZyXEL 3G Modem utility screens are similar in all Microsoft Windows versions. Screens for Windows 7 are shown.

2.3 Utility Screen Summary

This scetion describes the utility screens.
The utility screen is divided into these parts:
A - Menu Bar
B - Navigation Panel
C - Main Window
D - Status Bar

2.3.1 Menu Bar

The menu bar displays only when you select to show it using the menu icon (see Menu Icon on page
11).

2.3.2 Navigation Panel

Use the menu items on the navigation panel to open screens to configure WAH1004 features. The following sections introduce the WAH1004’s navigation panel menus and their screens.

Connection
The Connection screen shows whether the WAH1004 is connected to a mobile network. It also shows the mobile data connection time and traffic statistics.

Text Message
Use the Text Message screens to manage the text messages.

Local View and manage the messages stored in the computer wher e the utility is installed.
Inbox View and manage the mesages you received. Outbox View and manage the mesages you sent. Draft View and manage the mesage that is saved as a draft. Recycle View and manage the mesages you deleted and are now in the temporary recycle bin.
U(SIM)
Storage View and manage the mesages stored in the WAH1004’s SIM card.
Contacts
Use the Contacts screens to manage the address book contacts.

Local View and manage the contacts stored in the computer where the utility is installed. U(SIM) View and manage the contacts stored in the WAH1004’s SIM card.
Menu Icon
Click the menu icon ( ) on the right side of the utility screen to configure advanced settings and/or display the menu bar. The menus you see from the drop-down list are the same as the ones on the menu bar (see Section 2.3.1 on page 9).

2.3.3 Status Bar

The bar at the bottom of the screen displays the signal strength, system information and connection status.

PIN blocked The PIN code you entered for the SIM card is not correct.

This shows the current signal strength. The more bars that display, the stronger the signal strength.
WAH1004 cannot be detected by the utility. The system is checking whether the SIM card is enabled.
If the SIM card is blocked by your ISP. Get a PUK code from the ISP to enable the SIM card. Initializing The WAH1004 is in the process of starting up. Network
searching No service There is no suitable mobile network. No (U)SIM card There is no SIM card inserted in the WAH1004 or the WAH1004 cannot detect the SIM
