FIERY Si DRIVER SUMMARY

• Adobe v4.1 for Windows 95.

• Adobe v3.0.1 for Windows 3.x (support for install on a local

client only).

• Adobe v8.3.x for Macintosh.

• There is no driver support for UNIX.

• WIN NT 3.5 does not support PS Level 2 from Fiery Si

Server Driver.

• Adobe PPD’s supplied may not fully enable all features with

Win NT 4.0. XJ+ Server support for Win NT 4.0 is for the beta level at this time. Not all XJ+ Server features are supported in Win NT 4.0 since Win NT 4.0 does not support an Adobe Driver.

• There is no driver support for DOS Applications.

• Support for the Adobe Driver and function in a networked

Windows environment is the responsibility of the customer. The supplied driver has been validated to support Windows on a local client only. Contact Adobe for driver support in a network Windows environment.

• Mac OS 8.x is not validated for printing with the v1.2 Sytem

Software.

• Job notes are not supported when printing with LPR.

NETWORK SPECIFICATIONS

• The Fiery Si supports a 10BaseT (RJ 45),10Base5

(Thicknet), or 10Base2(Thinnet) via a transceiver, network connections.

• The Fiery Si auto senses the following protocols:

AppleTalk, TCP/ IP, & IPX, as well as the Centronics Parallel Port.

• Frame types supported:

-IPX (Ethernet 802.2, Ethernet 802.3 and Ethernet_II)

-AppleTalk (Ethernet_snap)

-TCP / IP (Ethernet _II)

• Four simultaneous network connections are available in

the Fiery Si compared to eight in the XJ / XJ+ Family.

• Token Ring is supported as an option using the same IPX

Token Ring kit as the XJ / XJ+ Family.

• The Token Ring option only supports Novell IPX.

• Native Novell 4.x is not supported at this time. The Fiery Si

connection is through the Bindery Emulation Mode.

• Win NT for non-Intel based platforms is not supported at

this time.

• Novell 4.x AppleTalk connection to the Si is not supported.

• All NT Support is through TCP/IP only.

• Win NT printing is through TCP/IP.

• Win 95 printing is through IPX.

• Win 3.x printing is through IPX

• Macintosh printing is through AppleTalk.

PRINTING

STARR Compression

• STARR Compression allows page data to fit into a fraction

of the memory required by the file’s uncompressed size. For many types of pages, this can be done with no compromise in image quality (lossless). For complex jobs or pages with large bitmap files, STARR compression will manipulate image data to fit the file into the available memory, and the resulting print may show signs of the compression (lossy).

• While printing, the Regal, MajestiK, and DocuColor 5799

copier/printer interfaces do not support auto tray switching with the sorter.

• Enabling auto tray switching in the DocuColor 5799 while

printing, may produce unexpected results.

Print Speed / System Performance

• The maximum print speed for the Fiery Si / Xerox Digital

Color Copier system is limited by the print speed of the Xerox Digital Color Copier.

• Depending on the complexity of the file, continuous printing

and RIP-WHILE-PRINT may be achieved.

• Overall system performance (‘Click to Clunk’ time) is

primarily dependent upon the software applications and network environment being used. Rasterizing (RIP-ing) is only a small fraction of Click to Clunk time.

• Printing with custom software applications may produce

unexpected or unknown results.

UTILITIES

• The utilities provided with the system are Fiery Downloader,

Fiery Print Calibrator, Fiery Spooler, and Fiery Scan.

• The Export Utility is not supported.

• All utilities on Mac require AppleTalk.

• PC Client utilities use IPX for Win ‘95 / Win 3.11

and TCP / IP for Win NT 3.5.

• There are no utilities supported for UNIX.

• The Command WorkStation is not a purchasable option

available with the Fiery Si.

MAXIMUM IMAGE SIZES

• The maximum image size from an application may

not match the maximum image size produced by the Xerox Digital Color Copier.

• The maximum image size for 12 x 18 on a connected

DocuColor 5750 is 297mm x 448mm.

COLOR MANAGEMENT / CALIBRATION

• The appearance of the document displayed on the monitor

screen may not match the output print because the monitor uses RGB color space parameters.

• Printer Calibration can either be done at the client (Fiery

Print Calibrator) or at the Fiery Si (AutoCal)

• To further increase accuracy, an X-rite DTP 32

densitometer may be purchased from Xerox or a local supplier. Autocal II is not available for the Fiery Si.

• For business applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,

Persuasion, etc.) that emit RGB data, four Color Rendering Dictionaries (CRD’s) are available. The CRD options are enabled when “Match colors across printers” for Windows and “Calibrated Color / Gray scale” for the Mac are selected in the drivers. The rendering styles offered by EFI are ‘photographic’, ‘presentation’, ‘monitor’ and ‘solid’. Note:

Win ‘95 only supports color correction capabilities (CRD’s) from MS Office. Win NT does not support CRDs.

• Fiery incorporates EFIColor profiles and filters to perform

color space conversions for Adobe PhotoShop.

• Color Sync 2.0 profiles are also included.

• When printing files with embedded objects (TIFFs, JPEG,

etc), from Win 95, it may be necessary to uninstall the Win 95 ICM profiles to prevent unexpected results.

• For imported RGB images, optimal color is achieved in the

EPS format. Other imported file formats may produce unexpected results.

• Prints from MS Office ‘95 and ‘97 applications record black

as process black. To print black only, the user must select greyscale from the driver.

• For the DocuColor 5799, use the copier calibration only.

Use of the coper/priner calibration option may produce unexpected results.

SCANNING

• The Scan-Out Feature is supported by the Fiery Si.

• The Fiery Si supports 200 dpi scans on letter / A4 paper

only.

• The Fiery Si supports maximum scan size of 400 dpi for an

area 25 inches square.

• The export feature is not available in PhotoShop.

SEPARATIONS SUPPORT

• The Fiery Si does not support Trapping and Overprinting

commands. STARR compression cannot support the “combine separations” feature needed to print trapping and overprinting successfully.

SPACE REQUIREMENTS

• Refer to the specific Xerox Digital Color Copier Customer

Expectation Setting Guide for reference.

• The Fiery Si should be positioned such that there is 24

inches (610mm) of unobstructed work area on each side of the placement.

• For the DocuColor 5750, the right side measurement is 55”

and the left side measurement is 17”.

• At no time should any overhead obstruction be closer than

6 feet (1828.8mm) over the location of the Fiery Si.

• The maximum distance between the Fiery Si and the Xerox

Digital Color Copier is limited by the original length of the interface cable.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

• Voltage ranges are from 100-120 VAC and 200-240 VAC.

• The power supply inside the Fiery Si automatically

configures to either 120 VAC at 60 Hz or 240 VAC at 50 HZ.

• The Fiery Si requires the use of two outlets: one for the

Fiery Si and one for the CD ROM.
