End-User Limited Warranty
Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., (“TAIS”) warrants that this telephone equipment manufactured by
Toshiba (except for fuses, lamps, and other consumables) will, upon delivery by TAIS or an authorized TAIS
dealer to a retail customer in new condition, be free from defects in material and workmanship for twenty-four (24)
months after delivery, except as otherwise provided by TAIS in the TAIS warranty accompanying the products or
posted on TAIS’s website. Products which are not manufactured by Toshiba but are purchased from Toshiba, will
be subject to the warranty provisions provided by the equipment manufacturer, unless TAIS notifies the end-user
of any additional warranty provisions in writing.
This warranty is void (a) if the equipment is used under other than normal use and maintenance conditions, (b) if
the equipment is modified or altered, unless the modification or alteration is expressly authorized by TAIS, (c) if
the equipment is subject to abuse, neglect, lightning, electrical fault, or accident, (d) if the equipment is repaired
by someone other than TAIS or an authorized TAIS dealer, (e) if the equipment’s serial number is defaced or missing, or (f) if the equipment is installed or used in combination or in assembly with products not supplied by TAIS
and which are not compatible or are of inferior quality, design, or performance.
The sole obligation of TAIS or Toshiba Corporation under this warranty, or under any other legal obligation with
respect to the equipment, is the repair or replacement of such defective or missing parts as are causing the malfunction by TAIS or its authorized dealer with new or refurbished parts (at their option). If TAIS or one of its authorized dealers does not replace or repair such parts, the retail customer’s sole remedy will be a refund of the price
charged by TAIS to its dealers for such parts as are proven to be defective, and which are returned to TAIS through
one of its authorized dealers within the warranty period and no later than thirty (30) days after such malfunction,
whichever first occurs.
Under no circumstances will the retail customer or any user or dealer or other person be entitled to any direct,
special, indirect, consequential, or exemplary damages, for breach of contract, tort, or otherwise. Under no circumstances will any such person be entitled to any sum greater than the purchase price paid for the item of equipment
that is malfunctioning.
To obtain service under this warranty, the retail customer must bring the malfunction of the machine to the attention of one of TAIS’ authorized dealers within the applicable warranty period and no later than thirty (30) days
after such malfunction, whichever first occurs. Failure to bring the malfunction to the attention of an authorized
TAIS dealer within the prescribed time results in the customer being not entitled to warranty service.

INC., OR TOSHIBA CORPORATION WHICH EXTEND BEYOND THE FACE OF THIS WARRANTY. ALL
OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND FITNESS FOR USE, ARE EXCLUDED.

INTRODUCTIONThe IPedge™ System is an advanced unified communications systems. It
consists of an Integrated IPedge Solutions server running multiple
applications. A single system could be made up of one or more IPedge
Servers. Multi-node IPedge Net Systems consist of multiple IPedge
Solutions servers connected via IPedge Net to appear as a single large
system. An IPedge Solutions server can also be a Stand-Alone system.
Each IPedge Solutions server has multiple applications running on the
server. The se applications include a Media server, SIP/Megaco converter,
Webmin, Bacula and Enterprise Manager. Additional applications such as
Messaging and Meeting can be added.
Figure 1-1 Single IPedge Solution Server System
IPedge Enterprise Manager provides a single point, single page web
interface for users to configure data, manage, control and maintain all
components of these applications and to coordinate the configuration of
all IPedge Solutions servers in an IPedge Net system.
Installation Manual August, 20111-1
SYSTEM TOPOLOGYStand-Alone
SYSTEM TOPOLOGYUnderstanding the IPedge system requires a discussion of IPedge
network configuration, the system topology. Every IPedge server has the
same capability. How each server functions is based on that server’s
position on the network topology.
Stand-AloneA Stand-Alone System (SAS) is a single IPedge. Although a business
entity may own multiple Stand-Alone Systems, each SAS is independent
of the others. There is no network connection between the systems.
Enterprise SystemsAn enterprise system is two or more nodes, at a single site or multiple
sites. The nodes are connected by a wide area network.
The Primary system sends commands and directs database backup and
restore functions via this network. The nodes can also be connected via
IPedge Net if call processing transparency is required. Please refer to
Figure 1-2. Enterprise systems are described in greater detail below.
NodeA Node is an individual IPedge or Strata CIX system in an Enterprise
System. A Node is defined by the logical relationship to the other nodes
within an IPedge Net connected Enterprise System, regardless of its
location. Nodes can be connected through LAN or WAN. The nodes may
be installed at one or more sites.
SiteWithin this document, the term Site refers to the physical location where
the IPedge or CIX systems are installed. At a site, the systems can be
Stand-Alone, one or more Nodes or an IPedge Net Enterprise System.
IPedge NODESIn every Enterprise and Networked IPedge system there will be one
Primary Node and any remaining nodes will be Member Nodes. The
Primary and Member labels apply to the Enterprise Manager location and
system database maintenance and backup.
Unlike some other systems the primary does not control the call
processing functions of the other (member) nodes. In a multi-node IPedge
system the loss of a single node effects only the resources on that node.
If the primary node fails the other nodes will continue to function. Only the
resources on the primary node will be lost. The system administrator can
login directly to a member node if changes are necessary while the
primary node is not operating.
Primary NodeWhen a node is created, it is by default a Primary Node. Wjen an
Enterprise Sytem is create one node will be the Primary NOde. The other
nodes will be Member Nodes. At any time, an Enterprise System can
have only one Primary Node. As new nodes are added into th e Enterprise
System, they are defined as Member Nodes. IPedge EC and EM servers
can be primary or member nodes. The EP server can be a member node.
The Node identification and IP address of the Primary Node is
programmed into to each Member Node as they are attached. Member
nodes will accept programming commands and requests for database
backup only from the Primary Node.
Member NodeMember nodes are ‘managed remotely’ by Enterprise Manage r in the
primary node. A Member Node will accept SNMP requests only from the

Primary Node. A member node will accept a very limited subset of
commands from a user terminal logged into the Enterprise Manager on
that system. These commands are only for local system items that do not
affect network operation. Commands not accepted would include DN
additions or changes. Commands accepted would include setting the
local time and date.
Detached NodeA member node can be detached from an Enterprise system by chan ging
the node to Sta nd-Alone. A Primary node can be detached by first
changing the node to Member then, changing it to Stand-Alone. One of
the member nodes remaining in the enterprise must be set to Primary.
ENTERPRISE SYSTEMSAn enterprise system is two or more nodes, the nodes may b e a t a sin gle

In every multi-node IPedge system there will be one Primary Node, all
other nodes will be Member Nodes. The Primary and Member labels
apply to the Enterprise Manager location, system database maintenance
and backup.

All of the nodes share a numbering plan and, fo r the most part, appear to
a user as a single system.
All systems are managed using a Single Point of Management. The
system administrator accesses all systems, branches, node, sites by
logging into a single, web-based administration program on the Primary
Node.

SYSTEM
ADMINISTRATION
Only one source can issue changes to database. That one source (the
Command Source) is the Primary node. Each node has the IP addre ss of
the Command Source. If an SNMP command received has a different
source IP address, the command is not accepted. In the case of a standalone system or a Detached Node the Primary node, the Command
Source, is the stand-alone or detached node.
The Primary node hosts the Enterprise Manager used to administer all of
the Enterprise System nodes. A copy of the database of each node is
maintained by the Primary node. The database copy is updated
(synchronized) every day, or as scheduled.
The Administration Terminal is a PC connected to the network, no special
software is required. Enterprise Manager is a browser based interface
that can be accessed from any computer with network access to the Primary node.
The Enterprise Manager can be accessed using:
•Microsoft™ Internet Explorer version 7 or later
•Mozilla
®
Firefox® version 5 or later
The system can be administered remotely over the internet.

A Single Point of Management offers the user a convenient, single
location of entrance or a web site for all management functions of all part s
of the IPedge system, including nodes, application servers, and media
gateways. Without this capability, a user must visit each part of the
system individually. This is the key feature of the Centralized
Management provided by Enterprise Manager.
The Centralized Management organizes the information of all parts of a
system, especially an IPedge Net Enterprise System, and presents it to
the user as a whole for viewing and modifications. Information of each
type; stations, trunks, trunk groups, etc., is presented in one group
instead of being divided by node or site. Changes that are required in all
affected nodes as the consequence of modification in one node are
carried out without user intervention nor having to effect the changes on
individual nodes. Database backup for the entire system is run from the
central location. The central location is the Enterprise Manager on the

•IPedge Core
•IPedge Call Processing (IPeCP) – All call processin g and
OAM functions for the local Integrated IPedge server . Multiple
IPeCPs connected by an IPedge Net work together to form
an Enterprise System.
Each IPeCP has its own configuration data stored internally.
Each IPeCP generates a backup file that contains all of the
IPeCP database (backup.dat).
•Media Relay Server – Required in some network
configurations for NAT traversal solutions.
•IPedge Net Gateway (IPedge Net GW) - The IPedge Net IP
service running in the IPedge server.
•Protocol Converters (PCONV) – Allows the IPedge Call
Processor to process Megaco + and SIP messages.
•Megaco+

When the node is detached an ‘attach/backup .dat’ is created and saved in
the node. When the node is attached the processor will boot from the
‘attach/backup.dat’ and later the Central Admin System will pull a backup
copy. Any changes made to the detached node database while the node
was detached will be lost.
To understand IPedge system operation, in particular, to understand
backup, restore, and synchronization functions the IPedge da tabases and
data types must be defined.
The Enterprise Manager database resides in the Primary Node. The
contents can be understood as three sets of data.
•IPedge Call Processing
•Enterprise Network Topology
•User Data
An IPedge Call Processing database exists on each node. The Call
Processing database is the local call processing DB. It is a non-MySQL
database, independent of Enterprise Manager DB. This database
contains the local operations for call processing in it’s own node.
When Bacula runs a backup job a copy of the call processing database
(backup.dat) for every node is saved in the Bacula Store.
All applications other than IPedge Call Processing have their own
database. The information is kept locally within a node. The Primary Node
DB does not contain application information other than the applications
running on the Primary.

The system configuration and call processing data for every node is
stored in this database on the Primary Node. The contents of this
database is displayed when an administrator uses Enter p rise Ma nage r.
This provides the single page view of a multi-node system. As changes
are made via Enterprise Manager the target node processes the change
then, the update is sent to the Primary Node database.
The Enterprise Manager Network Topology database describes all nodes
in an IPedge enterprise network. The Network Topology information is
stored in the Enterprise Manager DB in all nodes This includes:
•Node assignments as the Primary or a Member
