Instruction Manual
Thank you for purchasing a Taylor® Digital Thermometer. Please read this instruction manual carefully before use. Keep these instructions handy for future reference.
1. Some models have a static cling label on the lens to prevent scratching. Please remove before use.
2. The thermometer operates on one CR1225 3 Volt lithium battery (included). To install the battery:
● Open the battery compartment by turning the cover on the back of the thermometer counterclockwise, using a coin in the slot. Be sure the arrow on the battery door points to the open lock symbol. Remove battery door.
Insert the battery with the "+" sign facing up.
Replace the battery door so that the arrow points to the open lock symbol. Then use a coin to turn the battery door so the arrow points to the closed lock symbol. Note: If the battery door is not closed properly, water can get into the battery compartment causing the unit to malfunction.
● Change the battery when the display becomes dim. NOTE: Electrostatic interference may affect first use of the thermometer. If the thermometer does not initially work, remove the battery and reinstall it.
NOTE: please recycle or dispose of batteries per local regulations. WARNING: Batteries may pose a choking hazard. As with all small items, do not let children handle batteries. If
swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. PRECAUTION: Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. Remove the battery if the unit will not be used for a long period of time.
Functions
1. Press ON/OFF to turn the unit on. Press and hold ON/OFF to turn the unit off. (Auto-off feature: The unit will turn off to conserve battery power after 5 minutes of non-use or if there is no change in temperature and the temperature reading is lower than 122°F (50°C)).
2. Press °F/°C to switch between Fahrenheit or Celsius temperature readings.
3. Hold Function: The HOLD function “freezes” the current temperature reading on the display so the thermometer can be removed from the food and still show the reading. Press HOLD/▼ to hold the temperature display (“HOLD” will appear). Press again to release.
4. Min/Max Function: Press MAX/▲ to get the highest (maximum) temperature reading. (MAX will appear.) Press again to get the lowest (minimum) temperature reading. (MIN will appear.) Press again to release. To clear the max/min memory, remove the battery for 1 minute and then replace it.
5. Recalibration Function: Press and hold SET (SET will appear). Then press MAX/▲ and HOLD/▼ at the same time. The temperature display blinks. Suspend probe at least 1” into a 'slush' of crushed ice and water (32°F / 0°C)
for at least 30 seconds. Press MAX/▲ or HOLD/▼ to set the calibration back to 32ºF/0ºC. Press and hold SET to confirm calibration (“---” and “OK” will appear). Calibration is complete.
NOTE: If no buttons are pressed for 30 seconds, the unit will automatically return to normal mode. To restore the default calibration temperature, remove the battery for 1 minute and replace it.
Temperature Readings
1. Press ON/OFF to turn the unit on.
2. For best results, insert the stainless steel probe at least 1” into food being tested. Do not come in contact with bone, fat or gristle, as these areas will not provide accurate temperature readings. WARNINGS: DO NOT LEAVE THE THERMOMTER IN THE OVEN WHILE COOKING.
DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT THERMOMETER STEM WITH BARE HANDS.
3. The current internal temperature of the food appears on the LCD screen. When the thermometer reaches desired temperature, remove food from oven. For best results stir and recheck temperature or check food in several places.
Antimicrobial Feature
Taylor's Safe-T-Guard™ sleeve and housing incorporates a non-toxic chemical compound that inhibits the growth of harmful pathogens, which minimizes cross contamination. It is important to thoroughly clean and disinfect your thermometer after each use.
Care and Precautions
1. Use caution while handling the thermometer. Always wear a heat resistant glove when touching the thermometer during or just after use. DO NOT TOUCH PROBE WITH BARE HANDS!
2. Sterilize metal probe each time before use.
3. Dishwasher safe - top rack recommended. DO NOT wash in a dishwasher on lower rack.
4. DO NOT leave thermometer inside an oven or grill while cooking.
5. DO NOT use this thermometer in a microwave oven.
6. DO NOT tamper with the unit's internal components. Doing so will invalidate the warranty on this unit and may cause damage. Other than replacing the battery, the unit contains no user-serviceable parts.
7. DO NOT subject the unit to excessive force, shock, dust, temperature or humidity. This may result in malfunction, shorter electronic life span, damaged battery and distorted parts.
8. Do not expose the thermometer unit to: direct heat, a hot surface or direct sunlight. This may cause damage to the plastic casing or the electric circuits and components inside.
9. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. Remove the battery if the thermometer will not be used for a long period of time. Please recycle or dispose of battery per local regulations. Batteries may pose a choking hazard. Do not let children handle batteries.
10. Over- or under- temperature range displays: If the measured temperature is outside the unit’s temperature range of -40º to 450ºF or -40º to 230ºC, the LCD will show “HH.H” (higher than the temperature range) or “LL.L” (lower than the temperature range).
