OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Automatic OFF
The caliper will turn off (the display will go blank) after 30 minutes of no slide movement or press of a button. A one second push of either the “in/mm or “zero on/off” button will reactivate the display. Any movement of the slide will also activate the display with no loss of position.
In/mm Button
The caliper can be changed from inch mode to millimeter mode, or the reverse, with a two second push of this button. When an RS-232 cable is installed in the output slot of the 798B, the in/mm function is disabled and the button becomes a send button.
A one-second push of this button will also active the display with no loss of position.
Zero On/Off Button
If the display is off, a quick push of this button will activate the display. A one second press of the same button will also zero the tool at any position of the slide. A three second push of the button will shut the display off.
Output (798B only)
798B calipers include an output port that allows data transmission to computers or printers using the appropriate Starrett cable/adapter or Starrett DataSure® wireless interface. The output command is controlled by the in/mm button. 798A models do not include output.
Low Battery Indication
A battery symbol in the lower left corner of the display will light when the battery is getting weak indicating the battery should be changed. To replace the battery, follow the instructions listed under “Installation of Battery”.
