Emergency call mode

Your Gigaset E 150 has a special emergency function, an emergency procedure. You can use this function to call for help in an emergency. You can store up to four emergency numbers.
These emergency numbers are stored under the Emergency/ Direct Dial Key I, either on the handset or on the base. In an emergency, all you need to do is press Direct Dial Key I. Pressing this key initiates the emergency procedure.
The emergency procedure automatically dials the first emergency number which you have entered. If this number is busy or the other party is not at home, then the emergency procedure will automatically dial the next emergency number.
To use the emergency procedure, you must first program Emergency/Direct Dial Key I and activate the emergency mode (page 30).

Emergency procedure

The sequence of the emergency procedure is described below.
Press the SOS/direct dial key V on the base station on the base station and the device will start to dial immediately.
On the handset, you must press and hold the SOS/direct dial key
V to activate it immediately.
If you only press the key briefly, you will have to confirm with §Yes§ (this prevents an emergency call being made accidentally).
Å
When you press the emergency/direct dial key the first emergency number is dialed. At the same time you hear the message "The emergency call is being sent" on the loudspeaker.
Å
9
Special features of the Gigaset E 150
If the emergency call is answered, the other party will first hear the message "This is an emergency call". After this message, your name is announced provided you have programmed the emergency key accordingly (see page 30). This is followed by the message "Please press 5 to accept the emergency call". If the other party presses 5 you can now speak to each other.
Å
If the other party does not answer the call, e.g. because his answering machine is on or he is not at home, then the emergency procedure will automatically dial the next emergency number. The emergency procedure will automatically switch to the next emergency number after 60 seconds in the following cases:
– the call is not answered – the answering machine of the dialled emergency number is
on
– the emergency number is busy
Å
If all 4 emergency numbers are dialled and no call is answered, the emergency procedure is terminated with an error tone.
The emergency call recipients must have their telephone set for tone dialling or pressing the 5 key to accept the call will not be recognised.
All emergency keys flash on all registered handsets
and on the base throughout the emergency procedure. The message "The emergency call is being sent" is output on all loudspeakers.
i
The emergency call can also be answered by an
internal party if an internal call is programmed.
You should test run the emergency procedure to
ensure that the emergency mode is correctly programmed. Do not use the police, ambulance or fire brigade for a test run.

Placing the handset into the base station and charging the batteries

When you place the handset into the base, the handset will register to the base automatically. Proceed as follows:
1. Place the handset in the base with the display up.

cause significant damage to health and property. For example, the jacket of the battery could be destroyed (hazardous). The phone could also malfunction or be damaged.
3. Now leave the handset in the base for the batteries to charge – the batteries are supplied uncharged. Battery charging is indicated in the top right of the display by the battery icon flashing:

The battery charging status is correctly displayed only after uninterrupted charging/discharging. You should therefore avoid removing the batteries unnecessarily and ending the charging process prematurely.

When the batteries are almost flat you will hear the
'battery low' beep (if it is switched on, page 56). In the idle status the = icon flashes in the display and

Once initial charging is complete, you can replace
your handset in the base after each call. This ensures that the batteries are charged in a way that maximises their life.
The batteries heat up during charging. This is nor-
mal and not dangerous.

Note

Your telephone is now ready for use. The answering machine is available with the pre-recorded announcement. To correctly record the time of calls and, if applicable, messages, you must now set the date and time (page 50).
