Checking the Ink S
ide of the Ribbon
This
printer
two
types
of
print
methods: thermal transfer and direct thermal. Thermal transfer printing transfers the ink of the ribbon to the media. Direct thermal printing creates the image on direct thermal media. Ribbon is not necessary when using direct thermal media.
There are two wind directions for the ribbon. The Face-out direction indicates that the ink is on the outer side; the Face-in direction indicates that the ink is on the inner side. This printer supports both wind directions. The following procedure may be used to determine the ink side of the ribbon:
1 Place the outer side of the ribbon onto
the media (touching).
2 Scratch the inner side of the ribbon with
your fingernail or a pointed object.
3 If there is a mark on the media, the ink is
coated on the outer side of the ribbon.
The ink is coated on the inner side. (Face-in ribbon)
The ink is coated on the outer side. (Face-out ribbon)
