Thishandbookdescribeshowtoinstall,connectandmaintainthe RaymarineSatelliteT elevision(STV)system.Itisusedwiththe followingmodels:

YourSTVsystemwilloperateinvariousgeographicregions, dependantuponthetypeofsatellitesignalavailable.
Broadlyspeakingdifferentregionsaroundtheglobeuseeither circularorlinearpolarizationforDVBsatellitebroadcasts.Each STVunitisconguredtoreceiveeitherLinearorCircularpolarized signals.

•Adjusttheantennalownoiseblock(LNB)asappropriateforthe areainwhichyouareoperating.
•Updatetheregioninformationusingyourcontrolunit(ACU)ora PCrunningtheGUIsoftware.
•Ensurethatyoursatellitereceivers(IRDs)willoperateandreceive DVBbroadcastsatyournewlocation.

Uptodatecoveragemapsandsatelliteinformationmaybefound ontheappropriatewebsiteofyoursatelliteserviceprovider.
Televisionreception
ForfullfunctionalityofyourSTVSystem,youmustsubscribetothe relevantservice(s)fromtheappropriateserviceprovider(s).Full detailsofserviceprovidersaregiven.
EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimize electromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyour system
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceis notcompromised.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever possible:
•Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcables
carryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.

InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreased to7ft(2m).
–Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradar
beamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesabove andbelowtheradiatingelement.
•Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatused forenginestart.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavior anddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnothave aseparatebattery.
•Raymarinespeciedcablesareused.
•Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedin theinstallationmanual.
Note:Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyof theaboverecommendations,alwaysensurethemaximum
possibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsofelectrical equipment,toprovidethebestconditionsforEMCperformance throughouttheinstallation
Suppressionferrites
Raymarinecablesmaybettedwithsuppressionferrites.These areimportantforcorrectEMCperformance.Ifaferritehastobe removedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),itmust bereplacedintheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductisused.
Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarine authorizeddealers.
Connectionstootherequipment
Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables
IfyourRaymarineequipmentistobeconnectedtootherequipment usingacablenotsuppliedbyRaymarine,asuppressionferrite MUSTalwaysbeattachedtothecableneartheRaymarineunit.

3.Outsidesatellitecoveragezone. Yoursystemwillprovideexcellentreceptionwithintheantenna coverageareaforyoursatellitetelevisionservice.However,signal qualitymaydegradeasyouapproachtheedgesofthiszone.Refer totheinformationon“Satellitecoverageareas”tochecktheviable coverageareaforyourantenna.
4.Radarinterference. Theenergylevelsradiatedbyradarunitscanoverloadtheantenna circuits.Ensurethatyourantennaisinstalledcorrectlywithrespect toyourradarunit,asdescribedintheplanninginformationforSTV .
5.IncorrectorlooseRFconnectors. Allconnectionsshouldbecheckedaspartoftheregular maintenancerecommendedbyRaymarine,toensurethattheyhave notbecomeloose.AlooseRFconnectorcanreducesignalquality orcausetheantennanottowork.
6.Multi-switchinterference. IfyouhavemultipleIRD’sconnectedtoyoursystem,makesurethat youareusinganACTIVEnotP ASSIVEmulti-switch.
7.IRDtroubleshooting. YourIRDmaybethecauseofunsatisfactoryoperation.Checkthe IRDscongurationtoensureitisprogrammedfortheareainwhich youareoperating.UnplugtheIRDfromthepowersupplyfor15 seconds,thenreconnectandallowthesystemtoinitialize.
