We have designed your ET-893 to con­form to federal regulations and you can connect it to most telephon e li nes. How-

ever, each device you connect to the phone line draws power from it. We refer to this power draw as the device’s
equivalence number
, or REN. The REN
ringer
is on the bottom of the ET-893. If you use more than one telephone or
other device on the line, add up all of the RENs. If the total is m ore than five, your telephones might not ring. In rural areas, a total REN of three might impa ir ringer operation. If ringer operation is impaired, remove a device from the line.
