INTRODUCTION
Your RadioShack FRS-105 is a lightweight, palm-sized radio that you can carry almost any­where. Use it at shopping malls, amusement parks, sports events, or at the beach to contact family and friends, or in a neighborhood watch for vital com m unications.

CARING FOR YOUR RADIO
To enjoy your radio for a long time:
• Handle it gently.
• Keep it away from dust, moisture, and tem­perature ext remes.
• Clean it with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
Modifying or tampering with the radio’s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the radio’s warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your radio is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance.

SETTING A CHANNEL
You can communicate with anyone who has a radio set to the same channel. See “Using the Radio” on Pages 4 and 5 for information about changing your radio’s channel.
USING THE QUIET FEATURE
The quiet feature lets you talk and listen to peo­ple who are using other radios set to the same channel sub-channel within a channel, which gives you greater communication flexibility. When you set a quiet code (7 to choose from), you can com­municate wit h anyone who has a radio set to the same channel and code. Your radio is preset to not use a quiet code, but you can change that.
To set a quiet code, remove the battery cover and the batteries, then use your thumb or a coin to turn to use or 0 if you do not want to use a quiet code. The set code shows below turn it.

INSTALLING BATTERIES
Your radio uses three AA batteries for power. You can use alkaline or rechargeable batteries. (If you use rechargeable batteries, you must charge them befor e you can use them in the ra­dio).
Be sure the radio is off, then remove the battery compartment cover by pushing both latches to­ward the back of the radio and sliding the cover off. Then install the batteries according to the correct pol ari ty (+ and –) as shown.

Caution:
Do not mix old and new batteries, dif­ferent types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of dif­ferent capacities.
Note:
When you set a quiet code, that quiet code is automatically set for all cha nnels.
If you plan to use a quiet code, you can change the radio’s quiet code setting before you finish installing the batteries and replacing the radio’s battery compartment cover. See “Using the Quiet Feature” on Page 6 for more informa­tion.

Do not we ar an earphone while operating a motor vehi­cle or r i ding a bi cy cle. T his ca n create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in some areas.
Even th ough some earphones let you hear outside sounds when listening at normal vol­ume levels, they still can present a traffic hazard.
To remove the attached belt clip, slide i t up whi le usin g your fingernail to pul l the belt clip’s tab toward you. To reattach the belt clip, slide it down onto the back of the radio until it clicks.
