Qualified technicians have the necessary test equipment and tools, and have been trained to properly and safely repair complex products such as those covered by this manual. Improperly performed repairs can adversely affect the safety and reliability of the product and may void the warranty. If you are not qualified to perform the repair of this product properly and safely; you should not risk trying to do so and refer the repair to a qualified service technician.

1. Safety Precautions for those who Service this Unit.
• When checking or adjusting the emitting power of the laser diode exercise caution in order to get safe, reliable results.
Caution:
1. During repair or tests, minimum distance of 13cm from the focus lens must be kept.
2. During repair or tests, do not view laser beam for 10 seconds or longer.
2. A “CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT” label is affixed to the bottom of the player.
3. The triangular label is attached to the mechanism module frame.
4. Specifications of Laser Diode
Specifications of laser radiation fields to which human access is possible during service. Wavelength = 780 nanometers

Use a low reflection disc (MMD-211) for preliminary auto tuning (AUTO1). Use a high reflection disc (MMD-110), low reflection disc (MMD-211) for ATT auto tuning (AUTO2).

1. Be sure to perform “preliminary auto tuning” when you exchanged a PCB, Mechanism Unit, or Pickup Unit.
2. Let TP421 and TP435 (IC402: pin6, pin8) short circuited before preliminary auto tuning or overwriting EE-PROM (IC402) to clear protection on EE-PROM. * To overwrite EE-PROM, please see page 9 of the CX-893 Service Manual.

How to tune optical pick up grating
Adjust Lissajous’ figure (x-y) of EOUT (TP131) to FOUT (TP130) after automatically adjusting in a test mode AUTO2 using a high reflection disc.
1. Loosen the three screws of the spinning motor and adjust checking Lissajous’ figure.
2. After the tuning is completed, tighten the screws 1, 2, and 3, in that order.
3. Check Lissajous’ figure again.
