OVERVIEW
Search commands sent to the DVD-V7200 player may not appear seamless in specific situations. Player setup and search methods affect the visual display.
PLAYER SETUP
SEARCH METHOD
When issuing a Search through the player, you have the ability to search by Title, Chapter, Time or Frame. Each method depends upon the video title currently playing. A disc may consist of a single Title and Chapter or could have multiple Titles and Chapters.
When issuing a Search using the Time method, the search is seamless provided that the VIDEO SQUELCH DURING SEARCH is set to OFF. A time search appears seamless because the player searches to the closest “I” frame or picture in a Group of Pictures, (GOP). GOP’s have a maximum range of 15 frames in DVD-Video with an I frame at the beginning of each sequence. Following the I frame is a combination of P and B frames. The I frame is a complete video image while P and B frames are sub-pictures. During a time search, the player’s video buffer holds the last frame or picture of video until the search is complete. Use the time search method to avoid a blank screen during a Search.
When issuing a Frame Search to a P or B frame, the information in the video buffer is dumped. A blank screen appears. The player searches to the beginning of the GOP and loads I, P and possibly B frames until the player has arrived at the correct location. The screen remains blank until the proper picture is found.
