The Phottix PPL-400 is a light-weight and portable 400W battery-powered
strobe. The PPL-400 can be attached to a light stand for use with an umbrella.
With it Bowens adaptor in place, the PPL-400 can accept softboxes or lighting
modiers that use Bowens speed rings.
Connecting the Battery and Strobe
Insert the power cable into one of the Battery Power Points by aligning the
red mark on the cable with the red mark on the power point. Connect the
other end of the cable to the Battery Power Port on the PPL-400, aligning the
red marks on the cable and the port. Press the Battery Power Switch. The Red
power LED and Green power level lights will illuminate. The PPL-400 will turn on.
Disconnecting the Battery and Strobe
Press the Battery Power Switch to turn o the strobe and battery. Disconnect
the power cable from the strobe and battery.
Battery Power Indicator
The Battery Power Indicator light on the strobe will turn Red when the battery
power is low (10% or less remaining).
Modeling Light
The PPL-400 has a built in modeling light to help preview your lighting set-ups.
Press the Modeling Light On Button to turn on the modeling light.
The modeling light will turn o automatically after 10 seconds.
Selecting Modes
The PPL-400 has the following modes: Manual, Quick Multi, Quick Continuous,
and Quick Multi Continuous. Modes can be changed by pressing the Mode
Selector Switch. Power levels and selections can be made by turning the Mode
Selector Switch.
Manual Mode
In Manual Mode the PPL-400’s power level can be set from 1/1 to 1/64.
1. Press the Mode Selector Switch until MANUAL appears on the
strobe’s LCD
2. Turn the Mode Selector Switch until the desired power level is
reached.
Quick Multi Mode
Quick Multi Mode is for high speed shooting. Power levels can be set to the following: FP (50WS), F2 (60WS), F3 (70WS), F4 (80WS), F5 (90WS). Using this mode
will allow for several ashes to be red before the strobe needs to recharge.
1. Press the Mode Selector Switch until QUICK MULTI appear on
the strobe’s LCD
2. Turn the Mode Selector Switch to set the power level to FP, F2,
F3, F4, or F5.
Quick Continuous Mode
In Quick Continuous Mode the PPL-400 will ash 20 times. The frequency (speed)
of the ashes can be adjusted on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the fastest). Flash
power levels are 60WS and cannot be changed.
1. Press the Mode Selector Switch until QUICK CONT appear on
the strobe’s LCD
2. Number of Flashes settings made in Quick Continuous/Multi
Mode will carry over to Quick Continuous Mode (see below)
3. Turn the Mode Selector Switch to set the ash frequency
from 1 to 10.
Quick Continuous/Multi Mode
In Quick Continuous/Multi Mode the PPL-400 will re 5, 10, 15 or 20 times. The
frequency of the ashes cannot be adjusted. Flash power levels are 60WS and
cannot be changed.
1. Press the Mode Selector Switch until QUICK CONT MULTI ap
pear in the strobe’s LCD
2. Frequency settings made in Quick Continuous Mode will carry
over to Quick Continuous/Multi Mode
3. Turn the Mode Selector Switch to set the number of ashes to
5, 10, 15 or 20.
Using the Optical Slave
The PPL-400 has a built-in Optical Slave. To trigger the strobe using the optical
slave press the Optical Slave On/O Switch. The Optical Slave Mode Light will
turn Red, indicating that optical slave mode is active.
Triggering with Wireless Triggers or Sync Cables
The PPL-400 has a 3.5 mm Sync Port. Wireless ash triggers or sync cables can
be connected to this port using the proper cables.
Turning Sound On/O
The PPL-400 makes an indicator sound as the Mode Selector Switch is pressed
or turned. It also makes a sound when the strobe has nished recharging and
is ready to re.
1. Press the Mode Selector Switch until the LCD is blank except
for the top row of icons.
2. Turn the Mode Selector Switch to change the sounds icons to
On or O.
Using the battery with Hot Shoe Flashes
The PPL-400 battery can also be used to power one Canon or Nikon hot shoe
ash.
1. Insert AA batteries into a compatible ash unit. The ash will
not function without AA batteries.
2. Connect a compatible ash power cord to the battery and ash.
3. Turn on the battery and ash and set mode/power.

Recharging the battery
1. Plug the charging cable into the port on the back of the battery.
2. Plug the other end of the cable into a mains outlet.
3. The LED on the converter section of the charging cable with
light Red when charging and green when nished.

Warnings
1. Never disassemble or modify the PPL-400. The voltage inside the strobe is

Phottix PPL-400是一款轻便易携带的由电池供电的400W 影楼
灯。可以固定在灯架上，可接反光伞，接上保荣转化卡口跟卡
盘，PPL-400就可以使用柔光箱了。
连接电池和灯
将电源线的一端插入电池电源插孔中的其中一个，将线上的红
色标记与电源插孔的红色标记对准。将线的另一端插入PPL400的电池电源插孔，将线上的红色标记与电源插孔的红色标
记对准。按下电池电源开关，红色的电源LED指示灯和绿色的
功率水平灯将会点亮，PPL-400将会开启。
断开电池和灯
按下电池电源开关以关闭灯和电池的电源。从灯和电池中拔出
电源线。
电池电量指示灯
当电池电量低（剩下10%或者更少时），灯上的电池电量指示
灯将亮红色。
造型灯
PPL-400有一个内置的造型灯，可用来预览灯的配置。
按下造型灯开启按钮将会开启造型灯。
造型灯在10秒钟之后将会自动关闭。
选择模式
PPL-400 有以下几种模式：手动，快速频闪，快速连闪和快速
频闪连闪。可通过按下模式选择开关来改变模式。也可通过旋
转模式选择开关来调节功率水平。
手动模式
在手动模式时，PPL-400的功率可从1/1设置到1/64。
1.按下模式选择开关直至MANUAL(手动）出现在影楼灯的LCD
显示屏中。
2.旋转模式选择开关直至达到您所需要的功率水平。
快速频闪模式
快速频闪模式用于高速摄影。功率水平可设置如下：FP
(50WS), F2 (60WS), F3 (70WS), F4 (80WS), F5 (90WS)。使
用此模式可以在灯需要回电之前触发几次闪光。
1.按下模式选择开关直至 QUICK MULTI（快速频闪）出现在
灯的LCD显示屏中。

快速连闪模式
在快速连闪模式时，PPL-400将会闪光20次。闪光频率（速
度）可调整，范围为从1到10（10为最快的）。闪光功率为
60WS，且无法改变。

灯的LCD显示屏中。
2.快速连闪/频闪模式的闪光次数的设置将会作用于快速连
闪模式（请看下文）
3.旋转模式选择开关设置闪光频率，频率可为从1到10。
利用光感从属闪光模式
PPL-400具有内置光感从属闪光功能。触发此影楼灯可通过按
下光感从属闪光开关，光感从属闪光模式指示灯将会亮红色，
从而表明光感从属闪光模式已经启动。
通过无线触发器或使用同步线触发
PPL-400有一个3.5mm的同步线端口。利用无线闪光灯触发器或

开启/关闭声音

关闭/开启声音

其他都为空白。
2.旋转模式选择开关来改变声音图标，以致开启或关闭声音。
将电池与带热靴的闪光灯一同使用
PPL-400电池也可用于为一部带热靴的佳能或尼康闪光灯供电。
1.给与之相兼容的闪光灯装置安装电池。
2.用一合适的闪光灯电源线连接电池和闪光灯。
3.开启电池和闪光灯并将其设置为模式/电源。
*可提供不同的连接线：1）与尼康SB-900相兼容的 2）与尼
康SB800,SB800DX,SB280DX,SB28,SB27,SB26,SB25SB20,SB11,
SB22相兼容的 3）与佳能580EX II,580 EX,550 EX相兼容的。
给电池充电
1.将充电线的一端插入电池底部相应端口。
2.将线的另一端插入主电源插口。
3.当充电时，充电线转换区域的LED灯将会亮红色，当充满
