SNAP HAPPY.
Small, light weight, simple and fully specced – those who have been searching the shops for such a camera have previously gone home empty handed. It’s now time to look again. For photography lovers this much-lamented gap in the market is now filled. The new PENTAX K-m has arrived.
In a word, it really is more for less.
The new PENTAX fulfils superbly a specific concept for certain photographers: those who want the convenience of compact digital photography but aspire to take their photography to the next level. It combines progressive SLR technology with exceptional handling and ease of use. It has never been simpler, more intuitive and effortless to master the art of DSLR photography.
The K-m also meets the needs of the experienced photographer who already has an advanced camera: this is a small and light back-up camera that is ideal for mobile and spontaneous photography and one that doesn’t compromise on flexibility or quality.
THE CAMERA YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
* Due to the high resolution of the camera and the absence of some or all electronic contacts on various lens mounts, no statement can be made regarding the actual function range of individual lenses.
A lot in a little: In terms of dimensions the K-m undercuts all other DSLRs in its class, measuring a tiny
122.5 x 91.5 x 67.5mm and weighing in at an easy-to-carry 525 grammes (body only).
Extraordinary picture results: The CCD image sensor captures 10.2 megapixels resolution. Pin-sharp and
exceptionally vivid poster-sized photos are yours for the taking.
An ingenious helper: The K-m sets the perfct camera settings for virtually any photographic situation, and
the 10 Picture Modes help you to achieve easily the very best picture results.
More dynamic: You’ll find far greater detail and depth in the bright and dark areas of your photos with the
extended dynamic range of the K-m.
More freedom: The integration of in-body Shake Reduction is standard with PENTAX DSLRs. Blur-free photo-
graphy is now possible in unfavourable lighting conditions, with any lens. Unique in this class of camera.
Exceptional viewfinder: The pentamirror viewfinder design of the K-m is remarkable. With 96% image
field and 0.85 x magnification it is easily one of the finest in this class of DSLR.
See it all: The monitor of the K-m is not only large, bright and glare-free – 2.7”, 230,000 dots, with
170° viewing angle – it also offers a concise summary of current camera settings, functions, focusing and much more.
Have a question? Just ask: Simply press the Help button. The camera immediately displays clear information
regarding its functions.
Load up anywhere: The K-m operates on standard AA batteries. With its intelligent energy management
you’ll get 1,000 shots per set. No other battery offers such independence.
Forward compatibility: The K-m is designed to work with most modern ultrasonic lenses; naturally, manual
focus is at your fingertips.

Whether during the picture taking process or afterwards, the K-m gives you a number of tools to modify your images according to your own unique ideas. How do you see it – a nostalgic sepia, romantic high key, or a photo that looks as if it were painted? With the numerous filters available you can give a new and personal look to your pictures. Other useful enhancements, such as soft focus, picture cropping or colour adjustments can be achieved directly on the camera monitor. Another particularly useful touch is the ability to process in camera high-quality RAW data that the camera can store. RAW files allow you a freedom that has been reserved for true state-ofthe-art DSLRs. You also have the choice of storing your RAW data in PENTAX RAW format or the platform-independent DNG format. The K-m offers a number of additional useful features for your convenience: portrait shots are automatically rotated for easier on-screen viewing; or your photographs can be stored in different folders for easier classification and organising, for example.
An array of glittering glimpses. A picture is worth more than 1,000 words. So what does a whole
series of pictures say? If you view your photos on the camera monitor or on a television it’s easy to present an impressive, structured slide show. Now, instead of viewing single unrelated images you can create a stunning multilayered impression of your work.

f/4.0 – 5.6 ED
Every glimpse of the world invites a new interpretation. The strength of SLR photography is that it allows you really to get to the heart of the subject because you can change lenses to
match the situation. With the K-m you benefi t from compatibility with the complete range of
PENTAX DSLR optics. Two lenses were designed to make the most of the extremely light and compact concept of the K-m. The DA L 18 – 55mm and the DA L 50 – 200mm lenses not only
complete your system but also offer you a new level of fl exibility and mobility.
TINY CAMERA. HUGE ADVANCES.
A lightweight body, and the smallest dimensions in its class. The PENTAX K-m offers previously unknown compactness – with little compromise in features or functions. Where the compact design required new technology, it was developed. The goal was to ensure maximum standards despite maximum miniaturisation. As a result, not only was Shake Reduction subject to new developments, but also, the integration of all control and auxiliary display functions were also a part of this meticulous design philosophy.
Two lenses were also developed particularly for the K-m with weight and dimensions that are consistent with the flexibility and ease of use of the camera.
It has never been easier to acquire a complete high-performance camera kit. It has never been so effortless to master complex digital SLR technology.
Content and composition are the natural factors that govern the power and fascination of a picture. The photographer needs a camera that will allow concentration on both, an extension of the eye, and easy reliance on the technical aspects. Image sharpness and tonal range play a leading role. The K-m assures both.
TECHNOLOGY WORKING WITH YOU.
Crisp is better. The K-m comes with state-of-the-art PENTAX Shake Reduction. It ensures your
mastery of situations that would normally require a tripod. Since the Shake Reduction system is built in to the camera body, it is usable with any lens that you choose.
You’ll see clearly, and see more. No digital image sensor can attain the contrast range of the
human eye. This factor is most important when capturing an image where the dark and bright areas compete with one another. If you choose to capture detail in the shaded areas the highlights will be blown out. The extended dynamic range of the K-m will considerably improve the situation. The image will contain greater detail in the difficult zones and the picture will retain more depth and natural tension.
The K-m was developed according to a new basic concept: more capability, less effort. Top-class results? Simply press the shutter release and you’ll see. The complex labyrinth of menus is passé. The K-m comprehensively supports you in converting ideas into perfect photographs. Naturally, you decide if you want this support and to what level. It’s there if and when you want it. Incredible potential stretches between total creativity and absolute spontaneity. The K-m opens all doors to you.
It’s your choice. The ingenious Auto-Picture mode combines sophistication and ease of use. The K-m
analyses a given situation and decides the optimum settings, quickly and completely automatically. It is just as easy to select one of 10 Scene Programmes. The camera then chooses the ideal settings for the selected photographic situation – e.g. portrait, landscape, night or sport photography. In its auto priority modes the camera allows selection of a desired shutter speed or aperture, where you select the shutter speed or lens aperture and the camera selects the other, precisely and automatically. Naturally, the K-m allows to you to work completely manually any time you choose, allowing you to your full artistic potential.
An intelligent button. Of course, the PENTAX K-m comes with a detailed and comprehensive oper-
ating manual. But you’ll probably never need to refer to it – especially if you’re busy and on the go. If a question should arise about its operation, the camera gives you the answer. Simply by pressing a button. You get all the information regarding camera operation directly on the monitor. The information can either be about the selected function or about some other searchable topic.
The full view. The large 2.7” monitor of the K-m displays all essential function and control infor-
mation for you, providing a useful overview at a glance. Important information such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. are also shown in the viewfinder.
