Basic Operation

TAPE PLAYBACK

Operation

During playback, press [∫].

[DIR] switched to FWD: In the stop mode, press [5] (fast forward) or [6] (rewind).

[DIR] switched to REV: In the stop mode, press [6] (fast forward) or [5] (rewind).

In the stop mode or during playback, set [DIR] to REV or FWD.

During reception, press [RADIO ON/OFF].

NOTE:

Press [∫] to stop the tape before operating the radio. While playing a tape, the radio will not turn on even if you press [RADIO ON/OFF].

You can use normal type tapes only. This unit will not be able to do full justice to characteristics of high and metal position tapes even if they are played back.

Two R6/LR6, AA, UM-3 batteries (not included)

Press in and down towards the - end.

CONNECT THE HEADPHONES.

Plug in firmly.

RELEASE THE HOLD STATE.

INSERT A CASSETTE.

PRESS [21].

ADJUST THE VOLUME. SELECT THE STATION.

Preset tuning

Frequencies of up to 20 radio stations (10 each for AM and FM) can be stored in memory.

∫ Memory presetting

1 Tune in the station to be stored. 2 Select the Memory channel (1-10).

≥Memory channels 1 to 5

Press [PRESET] so

“ ” flashes, then press and hold a numeric button ([1] – [5]) for about 2 seconds.

1. Damage requiring service —The unit should be serviced by qualified service personnel if:

1. (a) Objects or liquids have gotten into the unit; or

1. (b) The unit has been exposed to rain; or

1. (c) The unit does not operate normally or exhibits a

marked change in performance; or

1. (d)

The unit has been dropped or the cabinet damaged.

2. Servicing—Do not attempt to service the unit beyond that described in these operating instructions. Refer all other servicing to authorized servicing personnel.

3. Replacement parts—When parts need replacing en- sure the servicer uses parts specified by the manufacturer or parts that have the same characteristics as the original parts. Unauthorized substitutes may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.

4. Safety check—After repairs or service, ask the servicer to perform safety checks to confirm that the unit is in proper working condition.

∫ How to receive an FM

broadcast clearly

Set [FM RECEPTION] to NOR. When FM reception is impaired, or there is interference from a powerful station, set to CITY.

≥Between functions (play, fast forward

or rewind), always press [∫] first to avoid jamming the tape.

≥When the tape reaches the end after

fast forward or rewind, press [∫] to release the button.

Auto-reverse

Play continues, looping forward and reverse, until you press [∫].

Note:

≥Do not open the cassette compart-

ment cover during tape operation.

Boosts the low frequency range. ≥If sound distortion occurs, turn down

the volume.

Concerning the hold function

This function prevents the unit from being operated even if any of the front panel buttons are pressed in error.

To obtain better reception

When using overseas

Change the frequency step to suit the area. Changing the frequency steps erases the preset stations.

While the radio is on, While pressing [PRESET], press and hold [BAND] until the display changes.

Each time you do this: FM 0.2 MHz, AM 10 kHz

Press [PRESET] twice so “ ” and “ ” flash, then press and hold a numeric button ([1] – [5]) for about 2 seconds.

ton ([1] – [5]).

Do not play your headphones or earphones at a high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations. Even if your headphones or earphones are the open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, don’t turn up the volume so high that you can’t hear what’s around you.

Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort level” adapts to higher volumes of sound. So what sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. Guard against this by setting your equipment at a safe level BEFORE your hearing adapts. To establish a safe level: ≥Start your volume control at a low

setting.

≥Slowly increase the sound until you

can hear it comfortably and clearly, and without distortion.

Once you have established a comfortable sound level:

≥Set the dial and leave it there.

≥Avoid using or placing this unit near

sources of heat. Do not leave it in an automobile exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time with doors and windows closed.

≥To avoid product damage, do not ex-

pose this product to rain, water or other liquids.

≥Discontinue use if you experience

discomfort with the earphones or any other parts that directly contact your skin. Continued use may cause rashes or other allergic reactions.

This indicator is displayed when listening to tapes or the radio.

To check while off Press [ ]. The indicator lights for about 5 seconds

When the batteries are weak

The indicator starts flashing and then:

Leaving the unit in this condition erases the contents of the memory. Replacing the batteries within 30 seconds will retain any stored information.

≥Align the poles (+ and -) properly

when inserting the battery.

≥Remove all the batteries if the set will

not be used for a long period of time.

≥Do not mix old and new batteries or

different types of batteries.

≥Do not recharge ordinary dry cell

batteries.

≥Do not use the batteries if the cover-

ing has been peeled off. Mishandling of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage which can damage items the fluid contacts and may cause a fire. If electrolyte leaks from the batteries, consult your dealer. Wash thoroughly with water if electrolyte comes in contact with any part of your body. ≥If rechargeable batteries are to be

used, rechargeable batteries

manufactured by Panasonic are

recommended.

To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

≥Never use the alcohol, paint thinner or

benzine to clean this unit.

≥Before using chemically treated cloth,

read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.

Clean the heads regularly to assure good quality playback and recording. Use a cleaning tape (not included).

For one (1) year—Radio, Clock Radio, Radio with Tape Player or Recorder, Speaker, IC Recorder

For ten (10) days—Batteries—(when applicable) —New re-

chargeable batteries in exchange for defective rechargeable batteries. Non-rechargeable batteries are not warranted.

For ninety (90) days—SD Memory Card—New SD card of the same memory capacity in exchange for a defective SD Card for ninety (90) days.
