Disconnect the power cord and the telephone

line cord. Open the cover by pressing the cover open
2
button, take out the film cartridge and then remove the Pickup Base Ass'y.
Clean the Pickup Roller bar with a cloth
3
moistened with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and let it dry thoroughly.
Install the Pickup Base Ass'y into the main
4
cabinet and set the film cartridge. Close the cover securely by pushing down on both ends.
Connect the power cord and the telephone line
5
cord.
Caution:
To prevent a malfunction due to static electricity, do not use a dry cloth and do not touch the thermal head directly with your fingers.

If the unit does not eject any recording paper during reception or copying, the recording paper has jammed.

Remove the jammed paper.
When paper has jammed under the film cartridge
The display will show the following message. Display:
Remove the jammed paper as follows.
Open the cover by pressing the cover open button.

If the film is slack, turn the film cartridge over and

tighten it by winding the gears.

Turn the film cartridge over so that the “BACK” is

facing up.
Replace the film cartridge by first placing the front

of the cartridge into the unit and then lowering the “BACK” of the cartridge into place.
Close the cover securely by pushing down on the

dotted area at both ends.

The unit will automatically start to detect the dialing mode of your telephone line (see below).
When the power is turned on for the first time, the unit will print some basic information.

Automatic dialing mode setting
When the telephone line cord and the power cord are connected, the unit will automatically start to detect the dialing mode of your telephone line.

Wait until one of the following messages is displayed.
CHECKING LINE
LINE IS TONE
Your line has touch tone service.
LINE IS PULSE
If the power cord is disconnected or a power failure occurs, the unit will detect the dialing mode again when power is restored. If you connect the power cord before connecting the telephone line cord, the following messages will be shown alternately.

Your line has rotary pulse dial service.

Remove the shipping tape from the paper stacker.

Lift the front of the unit and insert the paper

stacker into the side slots.
Confirm if the paper stacker is locked into the

center slots.

Remove the shipping tape from the unit.

Insert the two tabs on the paper tray into the slots

on the back of the unit.
Do not place the unit in areas where the paper tray may be obstructed by a wall, etc.

1. Pull the cassette open lever forward and remove all of the installed paper.
2. Add paper to the removed paper and straighten it.
3. Fan the stack of paper.
4. Pull the cassette open lever forward and insert
the paper into the cassette.

Remove clips, staples or other similar fastening objects. Check that ink, paste or correction fluid has dried. Do not send the following types of documents. To correct a mistake
Press or to move the cursor to the incorrect character, then make the correction.
To delete a character
Move the cursor to the character you want to delete and press .

To insert a character
1. Press or to move the cursor to
the position to the right of where you want to insert the character.
2. Press (One-Touch Dial key 2) to insert a space and enter the character.

Instead of pressing the dial keys, you can select characters using the JOG DIAL.

When the unit detects the end of the film, the following message will be displayed. Display:
FILM NEAR EMPTY
The remaining film prints about 15 pages of letter size document. Prepare a new film cartridge.

The following is available for replacement: KX-FA65: Film cartridge (prints about 330 letter size pages)
Open the cover by pressing the cover open button.
The film is empty. Install a new film cartridge.

When the film indicator points to this position, the remaining film will print up to 25 pages of letter size documents. Prepare a new film or film cartridge for replacement.
If misfeeding occurs frequently or if dirty patterns or black bands appear on a copied or transmitted document, clean the document feeder.

Clean the document feed rollers, separation roller

and rubber flap with a cloth moistened with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and let all parts dry thoroughly.

Close the cover securely by pushing down on

Connect the power cord and the telephone line

cord.
Caution:
Do not use paper products, such as paper towels or tissues, to clean the inside of the unit.

• There is something wrong with the unit. Contact our service personnel. [This error is displayed when the thermal head does not warm up. Check the thermistor on the thermal head and connector lead. (for technicians)]
• The cover is open. Close it.
• The document is not fed into the unit properly. Reinsert the document. If misfeeding occurs frequently, clean the document feeder rollers and try again. If the problem remains, adjust the feeder pressure. (Refer to page 113.)
• The film cartridge is not inserted property. Reinsert it correctly.
• Memory (telephone numbers, parameters, etc.) has been erased. Re-program. [The backup battery on the top of the digital board may be low or dead, so check it.]
• The
recording paper is not installed or the unit ran out of paper. Install paper and press
to clear the message.

• The recording paper is not fed into the unit properly or has jammed near the recording paper
entrance. Clear the jammed paper

• The unit has (a) document(s) in memory. See the other message instructions to print out the document(s).
• Memory is full of received documents due to lack of recording paper or a recording paper jam, etc. Install paper or clear the jammed paper.
• When performing memory transmission, the document being stored exceeds the memory capacity of the unit. Transmit the entire document by using manual or automatic transmission.
• The film is empty. Replace the film or film cartridge with a new one.
• The film is slack. Tighten it and install again.

• The unit is too hot. Let the unit cool down. [If many copies are nearly all black, this message will be displayed. When this occurs, open the front cover and let the unit cool down.]
