HOW TO:
USING YOUR OSTER® 4 SLICE WAFFLE MAKER
Preparing Your 4 Slice Wae Maker
1 Remove all packing materials before using.
2 Before use, wash the wae cooking plates with warm soapy water,
and dry completely. Be sure to read the Care and Cleaning section
of this manual to learn the correct methods for cleaning the unit.
CAUTION: Do not immerse WAFFLE MAKER in water or other
liquid.
3 Close the wae maker and plug it into the wall outlet. You will
notice that the red power light will turn on. Green ready light will
not turn on yet. It will remain o until the desired temperature is
reached. It will take approximately 5 to 8 minutes to reach baking
temperature. When the green ready light goes on, the wae
maker is ready for use.
Baking
1 When the green “Ready” indicator light goes ON, the unit has
reached the correct baking temperature and is ready for use.
2 Pour batter onto bottom grid of wae maker. Ladle just enough
batter to ll each plate in the lower grid so that the peak area of
the grid is covered, being careful not to overll. If necessary, use a
spatula to spread the batter in to the corners of the grid.
3 Lower the top part without closing the latch. This will allow more
room for the waes to expand.
Note: During cooking, the ready light may cycle ON and OFF as
the unit maintains the correct baking temperature. The cooking
time is about 3 to 5 minutes and varies depending on the type of
batter being used and desired cooking consistency of wae. The
unit may start to emit steam during cooking. Once the unit stops
emitting any steam, this may be an indicator that the waes are
done.
4 Once cooking is complete, remove the waes with a spatula or
utensil, being careful not to touch the housing as it will be hot.
Note: Avoid the use of metallic or sharp-edged utensils because
they could damage the coating on the plates.

5 If you wish to make more waes, close the lid and wait for the
ready light to turn “ON” before cooking a new batch.
6 After use, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool
Wae Baking Tips
1 At rst, try baking for about 3 minutes then check if it is done to
your liking. You may need to close the top housing and bake longer
if it is not to your desired outcome. A shorter baking time produces
a lighter colored wae, while waes baked for longer times are
darker and crisper. Dierent wae batters will also cook up
dierently. Over time, you will nd your perfect baking time for the
batter you use.
2 When preparing wae batter, do not over mix or waes will be
tough. Stir batter only until large lumps of dry ingredients
disappear.
3 The optimal amount of batter to produce a full-shaped wae,
without overowing, will vary with dierent wae batters. Pouring
batter from a measuring cup will help you gauge how much batter
to use each time. Fill bottom grid of wae maker with enough
batter to cover peak areas of the grid.
4 For more evenly shaped waes, spread thick batters to outer edge
of grid, using a heat proof spatula or other non-metallic utensil
before closing lid.
5 Cake-based waes, such as the Chocolate Waes are more tender
than regular waes, and may require more care when removing
from wae maker. You may want to break these waes into halves
or quarters before removing. Use a spatula to support waes when
removing from the wae maker.
6 To retain crispness, move baked waes to a wire cooling rack to
prevent steam from accumulating underneath.
7 When serving several waes at one time, keep waes hot and
crisp by placing on a rack in a preheated 200°F oven until ready to
serve.
8 Already cooled waes can be re-warmed and re-crisped,
individually, by returning to hot wae maker. Place wae on grid
so grooves match up; close lid and heat for 1 to 2 minutes, watching
carefully to prevent burning.
9 Baked waes freeze well. Cool completely on wire rack. Store in
plastic freezer bag or in covered container, separating waes with
wax paper. Reheat frozen waes in toaster oven, oven or toaster
until hot and crisp.
