CARK 105 Installation Guides
Introduction
This installation guide has been prepared to provide the basic information necessary to install this car kit. This guide is not intended to be definitive, because different types and models of vehicles will require different installation work. The information given is for general guidance only.
The terms of warranty demand that this car kit be installed by an experienced installation facility. An end user should never attempt to install this car kit without professional assistance as the installation requires special tools and knowledge.
Please refer to the telephones owners manual for instructions on the telephones operation, care and maintenance, including important safety information.
Note: Read the warnings overleaf before beginning the installation procedure.

1. Ensure that the vehicles battery is disconnected before you start the installation procedure, and that it remains disconnected during the procedure.
2. Do not smoke or use open flames when working near the vehicles fuel system.
3. Ensure that electrical cables, hydraulic lines and fuel lines are not damaged during installation.
4. Ensure that normal control and operation of the vehicle is not impaired by the installation, particularly the brakes and steering.
5. Although electronic speed control, ABS anti–lock brakes and fuel injection systems are relatively immune to malfunction caused by nearby radio transmissions, should you experience false operation of these systems or are in any doubt whatsoever as to their functionality, please consult the vehicles dealer.

WARNINGS
6. The car kit is suitable for use only in vehicles with an 11 to 16 V negative grounding. Use on other supply voltages or alternative polarity will damage the equipment.
7. The phone should not be left switched on for extended periods without running the vehicles engine. Failure to comply could drain the vehicles battery.

Component Parts

Advanced Cradle (MBA–2)/Cradle Release Mount (MKH–1)
This combination enables the phone to operate in handsfree mode. The coil cord from the advanced cradle plugs into the HFU–1; the phone is then placed into the holder which should be mounted in a convenient dashboard location. When the phone is located in the holder it reverts to normal handset operation. Privacy is provided by releasing the phone and cradle from the release mount.
Mounting Plate (MKE–1) and Swivel Mount (HHS–6)
MKE–1 is a fixed position mounting plate; HHS–6 is a swivel mount which allows for adjustable installation. Mounting plates are interchangeable.
Handsfree Junction Box (HFU–1) and Mounting Plate (MKU–1)
The handsfree junction box provides and controls the supply voltages for the accessories and the charge current for the phone. In addition, it controls the audio paths to accessories and handsfree equipment. The junction box also contains a speaker, if mounting of the handsfree speaker HFS–12 is not desired. Mounting plate MKU–1 is used to attach the handsfree junction box HFU–1.
Power Cable (PCM–11)
The power cable connects to the handsfree junction box (HFU–1), via the 4 pin connector. The red (+12V) and black (GND) wires must be connected to the vehicle battery terminals via the supplied fused connectors.
Handsfree Microphone (HFM–10)
The HF microphone can usually be installed on the drivers sunvisor or the vehicle dashboard. The main idea being to get the microphone positioned on a mechanically quiet surface as near to the drivers mouth as possible. The microphone connects to the HFU–1 jack with a push and turn action.
Handsfree Speaker (HFS–12)
The handsfree speaker HFS–12 connects to the HFU–1 speaker jack and should be mounted at least 1m away from the microphone to avoid acoustic feedback.

Handsfree Junction / Speaker Box (HFU–1)
Select a suitable position in the front of the vehicle which:
D allows the HFU–1 to be fixed securely to the vehicle structure, 1m away from the micro-
phone in a position where it can be heard
D avoids all cables, pipes, and fluid reservoirs D will cause no hazard to vehicle occupants in the event of an accident D will not interfere with vehicle controls or vision
ENSURE THAT THE POSITIONS SELECTED FOR INSTALLATION WILL NOT RESULT IN HOLES BEING DRILLED THROUGH FUEL LINES, BRAKE LINES, CABLES ETC.
CARK 105 Installation Guides
D allows adequate air flow for cooling (not to be positioned in the heater air flow)
Using the mounting plate MKU–1 as a template, mark and drill four holes and secure the bracket using the four self–tapping screws. Attach HFU–1 by positioning it onto the mounting plate and screwing it firmly into position.
Antenna
NOTE 1 This car kit is designed to operate with a high quality external antenna . However due to the many different types of antenna available, an antenna is not included as part of the kit. It is the responsibility of the dealer to advise on the most suitable antenna type for any given installation.
The ideal location for the antenna is in the center of the roof or trunk lid. This position provides the best transmission and reception radiation pattern. Before drilling a hole, make sure that there is an acceptable route for the cable to the HFU–1. After drilling the hole for the antenna, remember to clean the area to ensure a proper and reliable connection between the antenna and ground.
After cleaning the area, apply some rust–proofing compound to prevent future oxidation. If the trunk lid acts as an antenna for the vehicle radio, do not mount the telephone antenna on it. to avoid drilling a hole in the vehicle’s bodywork, a glass–mounted antenna can be chosen and located on the rear window of the vehicle.
NOTE 2: The connection between the HFU–1 and the antenna must be via a non–radiating cable (e.g. coax). Try to ensure that the cable run is kept as short as possible to maximize antenna performance.
NOTE 3: The antenna should be mounted in a position so that no part of the human body rests within 8” (20 cm) of any part of the antenna for more than a few minutes while the equipment is switched on. The exception being that there is an intervening metallic screen (e.g. metallic roof) at least 3.25 sq. ft. (0.3 sq. m) in area.

Location of “Handsfree” Equipment
Handsfree equipment covers the HF Junction Box; the Advanced Cradle; the HF Microphone; and the HF Speaker.
The location of the HF Junction Box and Advanced Cradle should be chosen to provide the most comfortable position for handsfree use and so that visibility of the phones display is good in all lighting conditions.
The HF Microphone should be located quite close to the drivers mouth and attached to a surface that does not carry the mechanical vibrations of the vehicle body, since these have a tendency to increase background noise when the phone is operating in handsfree - recommended positions include the drivers sunvisor or the vehicles dashboard.
The underside of the microphone is marked with an arrow which should be oriented towards the user. The position of the Speaker (HFS–12) is not so critical but two requirements should be considered as follows: the driver should be able to hear any conversation without special effort; and in order to minimize acoustic feedback the speaker and the microphone should not be positioned facing each other and located approximately 1m apart.

Electrical Installation

This equipment operates on a 12V dc (negative ground). If the vehicle has a 24V electrical system, a 24V/12V 4A converter must be used. If there are two 12V batteries connected in series, DO NOT use only one of the batteries. The red (+12V) and black (GND) wires must be connected directly to the vehicle battery terminals via the supplied fused connectors.

ПППППППППППППППППППППП
The cable connections for the kit are shown in Figure 1. Individual equipment connections are described briefly under the equipment headings.
Testing
Once installed, the equipment should be tested to ensure that it is operating satisfactorily and that the position of the unit does not impair the drivers ability to control and operate the vehicle in any way. Use the phone to make a call when the vehicle is parked with the engine running. During the call, switch off the engine. Ensure that the phone is operational with the engine on and off. For operating information refer to the Owners Manual supplied with the phone.
WARNING
THIS EQUIPMENT IS NOT
SUITABLE FOR USE ON A
VEHICLE WITH A POSITIVE GROUND SYSTEM.
