Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kind of batteries are used in the SB-21?
A: The SB-21 uses 4 units of 1.5 volts AA type batteries and alkaline manganese or even zinc carbon and NiCd batteries can be employed.
Q: May the SB-21 be used to operate alongside any Nikon camera?
A: The SB-21 may be utilized in tandem with selected Nikon cameras as long as appropriate controller is used. These controllers would include the AS-12 for F3-series and AS-14 for F4-series, F-801, FA, FE2, F-501, F-301, FG.
Q: What is TTL flash mode?
A: The TTL (Through-The-Lens) flash mode is an automatic feature which allows the flash to operate with varying concentration based off of exposure data derived from the lens.
Q: If wished to manually flash shoot with SB-21 what would be the course of action?
A: In this regard, turning the light output selector to ‘M’ will suffice, and further power output can be modified to a setting of either full, 1/4 and lastly 1/16.
Q: What would be considered the next step if the ready-light fails to shine?
A: When the ready-light is not lit without first turning the power switch to the on position, one should ensure the batteries are new and correctly installed. It is also advisable to inspect the cord in the event that an external power supply is used.

Attaching the S8·21 to the lens
normal position
The Nikon Adapter Ring UR-3 (option) is
necessary.
1. Attach the UR-3
2. Firmly tighten the lock screw on the UR-3.
3. Attach the 8B-21 to the UR-3.
• Before attaching/detaching the 8B-21, make
sure the lens focus ring is set at infinity
• Do not attach the lens to the 8B-21 via the
62mm adapter ring supplied with the 8B-21;
doing so could damage the lens or 8B-21.
Setting the lens index on the controller's
aperture/reproduction ratio dial
For TTL auto flash shooting, see page 35; for
manual flash shooting, see page 38. Although the
