When the indoor unit does not respond to the signal from the remote controller, or the display becomes
dim, replace the batteries with new ones (size AAA).
Though both alkaline batteries and manganese
batteries can be used, alkaline batteries are rec- ommended because their service life is longer than that of manganese batteries.
The service life of an alkaline battery is about 1year.
However, a battery which the time limit is ap-
proaching may be exhausted soon. The recom-
mended usable time limit is indicated (month/year) on the bottom of the battery.
Replace the 2 batteries with new ones of the same
type.
Do not use rechargeable batteries.
To prevent liquid leakage, take out all batteries
when the remote controller is not going to be used for a long time.
Dispose of exhausted batteries in the correct man-
ner.

-- Description of"AUTO RESTART FUNCTION"
These units are equipped with an auto restart function. When the main power is turned on, the air conditioner wilt start operation automatically in the same mode as the one set with the remote controller before the shutoff of the main power.
If the unit was set to off with the remote controller before the shutoff of the main power, it will remain stopped even after the main power is turned on.
If the unit was in the emergency operation before the shutoff of the main power, it will start operation, when main power comes on, in the same mode as the one set with the remote controller before the emergency operation.
If the unit is operated in "1FEEL ..." mode before power failure, the operation is not stored in the memory. In "1FEEL ..."
mode, the operation is decided by the initial room temperature at (re)start.
Since the air conditioner has been shipped from the factory with the COOL mode saved in the memory for auto restart function, it starts cooling operation when the user turns on the main power for the first time after installation.

In a weak radio wave area, when the air conditioner is
operated, noise may be generated in radio reception.
When thunder is heard, stop
operaUon and rum off the breaker. Otherwise, the electrical parts
may be damaged.
The air conditioner cannot be operated
for about 3 minutes
when restarted.
S¸
This protects the air conditioner according to in-
structions from the microprocessor. Please wait.
Cracking sound is heard.
The room smells strange.
The fan stops during the DRY operation.
The sound of water flowing is heard.
This sound is generated by the expansion/con-
traction of the front panel, etc. due to change in temperature_
The air conditioner sucks in an odor adhering to the wall, carpet, furniture, cloth, etc. and blows it
out with the air.
In DRY operation, the unit operates using the same refrigerant circuit as in COOL operation. DRY operation time has to be reduced in order to lower humidity without much room temperature decreasing. So the compressor sometimes stops, and at the same time the indoor fan stops. This prevents water condensed on the heat exchanger from evaporating again.
This is the sound of refrigerant flowing inside the air conditioner.
This is the sound of condensed water flowing in the heat exchanger.
This is the sound of the heat exchanger defrost- ing.
The air flow direc- tion changes during
operation.
When the air conditioner is operated in COOL or DRY mode, if the operation continues with air blowing down for 1 hour, the direction of the air
flow is automatically set to horizontal to prevent condensed water from dropping.
!f
Mechanical sound is heard from the in- door unit.
_--.,_r,,L ,,_ _ /
This is the switching sound in turning on/off the fan or the compressor.
!
Water leak from the outdoor unit.
The sound as bur- bling is heard.
The room cannot be cooled sufficiently.
The air conditioner starts the operation
only with the main power turned on, though you do not
operate the unit with the remote control-
ler.
During COOL and DRY operations, pipe or pipe connecting sections are cooled and this causes
water to condense.
This sound is heard when the outside air is ab- sorbed from the drain hose in turning on the
range hood or the ventilation fan and that makes water flowing in the drain hose spout out.
This sound is also heard when the outside air blows into the drain hose in case the outside wind
is strong.
When a ventilation fan or a gas cooker is used in a room, the cooling load increases, resulting in an insufficient cooling effect.
When the outside air temperature is high, the cooling effect may not be sufficient.
These models are equipped with the auto restart function. When the main power is turned off with-
out stopping the air conditioner with the remote controller and is turned on again, the air condi-
tioner will start operation automatically in the same mode as the one set with the remote con-
troller just before the shutoff of the main power.
13
Avoid installing the air conditioner in the following places.
Where flammable gas could leak.
-/_CAUTION
Do not install the unit where flammable gas could leak.
Jf gas leak and collect around the unlt, it may cause an
explosion
Where there is much machine oil.
Salty place such as the seaside.
Where sulfide gas is generated such as a hot
spring.
Where oil is splashed or is filled with oily smoke.
WaPJ etc
Provide an exclusive circuit for power supply of
the air conditioner.
Use the correct power (voltage and frequency)
indicated on the unit to operate the air conditioner and use only fuses or breakers with
specified capacity. Do not use pieces of wire instead of fuses.
-/_WARNING
The customer should not install this unit. If this is done incorrectly, it may cause a
fire, electric shock, injury by dropping of the unit, water leakage, etc.
Unit should be installed by licensed
contractor according to local code requirements.
-/_CAUTION
Ground the unit.
Do not connect the ground to a gas pipe, water pipe, lightning rod or the ground of a telephone.
If a grounding is incorrect, it may cause an
electric shock.
If the air conditioner is installed in a high
humidity area or near a water source, a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) circuit breaker should be installed to protect against shock.
When the air conditioner is used for several seasons, the capacity may be lowered due to dirt
inside the unit.
Depending on the use condition, an odor may be generated or dehumidified water may not drain
out smoothly due to dirt, dust, etc.
It is recommended to apply inspection and
maintenance (charged) by a specialist in addition
to normal maintenance. Consult your dealer.
Do not put an object around the air outlet of the outdoor unit. It may cause lowering of capacity or
increase operation sound.
If abnormal sound is heard during operation, consult your dealer.
When the air conditioner is to be removed or re- installed because of rebuilding, moving, etc.,
special techniques and work are required.
Repair or relocation should not be done by the
customer. If this is done incorrectly, it may cause a fire,
/_WARNING
electric shock, injury by dropping of the unit, water leakage, etc. Consult your dealer.
