How to Reset your unit

After installing the unit or when you have troubles with operations, reset the

microcomputer built in this unit. Press the reset button on the front panel using a ball-point pen or a similar tool.

• REMEMBER your preset adjustments such as preset channels or sound adjustments will also be erased from memory.

To activate “DEMO” (Demonstration)

While holding DISP, press ¢ until “DEMO” appears on the lower part of the display. Various functions and display illumination modes equipped for this unit will be demonstrated repeatedly in sequence.

• The DEMO mode will turn off automatically after 1 hour. To turn off the DEMO mode, press

DISP until “DEMO” disappears from the lo wer part of the display.

How to use the number buttons:

After pressing MODE (while “MODE” remains on the display), the n umber buttons work as other different function buttons. To use these buttons as number buttons after pressing MODE, wait f or 5 seconds without pressing any number button so that “MODE” disappears from the display.

• Pressing MODE again also erases “MODE” from the display.

Turn on the power.

The display illuminates and the control panel comes out.

Select the source.

Each time you press the button, the source changes as described to the left:

To operate the tuner, see pages 6 – 10. To operate the CD player, see pages 11 – 15. To operate the CD changer, see pages 32 – 35. To operate the exter nal component connected to the LINE IN plugs,

see page 36.

Notes:

* If a CD is not in the loading slot, you cannot select CD as the source to play. ** Without connecting the CD changer, you cannot select it as the source to play.

Adjust the volume.

Adjust the sound as you want (see pages 16 – 19).

To drop the volume in a moment

Press FUNC (function) for more than 1 second while listening to any source. “ATT” star ts flashing on the display, and the volume level will drop in a moment. To resume the previous volume level, press the button for more than 1 second again.

To turn off the power

Press and hold OFF/ 0 until “SEE YOU” appears on the display.

Listening to the radio

You can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune into a particular station.

Searching a station automatically: Auto search

Note:

This receiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). You can use any one of them to listen to an FM broadcast.

Select the band.

2 Press LO (Local), while “MODE” is still on the display, so that the LOCAL indicator lights up

on the display. Each time you press the button, the LOCAL indicator lights up and goes off alternately.

Searching a station manually: Manual search

Press and hold ¢ or 4 until “M” (Manual)

Tune into a station you want while “M” is flashing.

• If you release your finger from the button, the manual mode will automatically turn off after 5 seconds.

When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive: 1 Press MODE while listening to an FM stereo broadcast (the ST indicator lights up while

receiving an FM stereo broadcast). “MODE” appears on the lower part of the display, and the number buttons can work as different function buttons.

2 Press MONO (monaural), while “MODE” is still on the display, so that the MO indicator

lights up on the display. The sound you hear becomes monaural but reception will be improved (the ST indicator goes off). Each time you press the button, the MO indicator lights up and goes off alternately.

Storing stations in memory

You can use one of the following two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory.

• Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory)

• Manual preset of both FM and AM stations

FM station automatic preset: SSM

You can preset 6 local FM stations in each FM band (FM1, FM2 and FM3).

Select the FM band number (FM1, FM2 or FM3) you want to store FM stations into.

Press and hold both buttons for more than 2 seconds.

“SSM” appears, then disappears when automatic preset is over.

Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number you hav e selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3). These stations are preset in the number buttons — No. 1 (lowest frequency) to No. 6 (highest frequency). When automatic preset is over, the station stored in number button 1 will be automatically tuned in.

Manual preset

You can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually. EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band

Select the FM1 band.

Tune into a station of 88.3 MHz.

Press and hold the number b utton (in this example, 1)

for more than 2 seconds.

FM band number and “MEMO” appears alternately for a while.

Repeat the above procedure to store other stations into other preset numbers.

Notes:

• A previously preset station is erased when a new station is stored in the same preset number.

• Preset stations are erased when the power suppl y to the memory circuit is interrupted (for example, during battery replacement). If this occurs, preset the stations again.

Tuning into a preset station

You can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see pages 8

Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) you want.

Select the number (1 – 6) for the preset station you want.

When using this unit in an area other than North or South America:

You need to change the AM/FM channel intervals. See “To change the AM/FM channel intervals” on page 26.

Playing a CD

Open the loading slot.

The display panel moves down, and the loading slot appears.

Insert a disc into the loading slot.

The unit draws a CD, the display panel moves up, and CD play starts

automatically.

Notes:

• When a CD is in the loading slot, selecting “CD” as the source by pressing FUNC starts CD play.

• When a CD is inserted upside down, “DISC EJECT” appears on the display and the CD automatically ejects.

• When you play a CD Text, the disc title and performer appear on the display. Then the cur rent track and elapsed playing time appears on the display. See also “Playing a CD Text” (page 12) and “To select the scroll mode” (page 26). If a CD Text includes much text information, some may not appear on the display.

To stop play and eject the CD

Press OFF/0 briefly. CD play stops, the display panel moves down, then the CD automatically ejects from the loading slot.

• If you change the source, the CD play also stops (without ejecting the CD this time).

To close the display panel, press CAUTION: NEVER inser t your finger between the display

panel and the unit, as it may get caught in the unit.

Note:

If the ejected disc is not removed for about 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. (CD play will not start this time.)

Playing a CD Text

In a CD Text, some information about the disc (its disc title, performer and track title) is recorded. You can show these disc information on the display.

• The display shows up to 12 characters at one time and scrolls if there are more than 12 characters. See also “To select the scroll mode” on page 26.

Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD

To fast-forward or reverse the track

Press and hold ¢, while playing a CD, to fast-forward the track.

To go to the next tracks or the previous tracks

Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD, to go ahead to the beginning of the next track. Each time you press the button consecutiv ely , the beginning of the next tracks is located and played back.

briefly, while playing a CD, to go back to the beginning of the current track. Each time you press the button consecutively, the beginning of the previous tracks is located and played back.

To go to a particular track directly

Press the number button corresponding to the track number to star t its playback.

• To select a track number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly.

• To select a track number from 7 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) for more than 1 second.

To play back tracks at random (Random Play)

You can play back all tracks on the CD at random. 1 Press MODE while playing a CD.

“MODE” appears on the lo wer part of the display , and the number buttons can work as different function buttons.

2 Press RND (Random), while “MODE” is still on the display, so that the

RND indicator lights up on the display. Each time you press the button, CD random play mode turns on and off alternately. When the random mode is turned on, the RND indicator lights up on the display and a track randomly selected starts playing.

To play back tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play)

You can play back the current track repeatedly. 1 Press MODE while playing a CD.

“MODE” appears on the lo wer part of the display , and the number buttons can work as different function buttons.

2 Press RPT (Repeat), while “MODE” is still on the display, so that the RPT

indicator lights up on the display. Each time you press the button, CD repeat play mode turns on and off alternately. When the repeat mode is turned on, the RPT indicator lights up on the display.

To play back only intros (Intro Scan)

You can play back the first 15 seconds of each track sequentially. 1 Press MODE while playing a CD.

“MODE” appears on the lower part of the display , and the n umber buttons can work as different function buttons.

2 Press INT (Intro), while “MODE” is still on the display.

Each time you press the button, CD intro scan mode turns on and off alternately. When the intro scan mode is turned on, “INTRO” appears on the display for 5 seconds and the track number flashes.

Track number of the currently playing track

Prohibiting CD ejection

You can prohibit CD ejection and can lock a CD in the loading slot. While pressing FUNC (Function), press and hold OFF/0 for more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT”

flashes on the display for about 5 seconds, and the CD is locked and cannot be ejected.

To cancel the prohibition and unlock the CD, press and hold OFF/0 for more than 2 seconds again, while pressing FUNC. “EJECT OK” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the CD is unlocked.

Adjusting the sound

You can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference.

Turning on/off the BBE function

The BBE* function restores the brilliance and clarity of the original live sound in recording, broadcasts, etc. When a speaker reproduces sound, it introduces frequency-dependent phase shifting, causing high-frequency sounds to take longer to reach the ear than low frequency sounds. The BBE function adjusts the phase relationship between the low, mid and high frequencies by adding a progressively longer delay time to the low and mid frequencies, so that all frequencies reach the listener’s ears at the proper time. In addition, the BBE function boosts low and high frequencies, which loudspeakers tend to be less efficient in reproducing, through dynamic, program-driven augmentation. When combined with the phase compensation feature, the resulting sound has a clearer , more finely detailed “live” presence.

Selecting preset sound modes

You can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the music genre.

Notes:

• You can adjust the preset sound control mode to your preference, and store in memory. If you want to adjust and store your original sound control mode, see “Storing your own sound adjustments” on page 19.

• To adjust only the bass/treble reinforcement levels and BBE to your preference, see “Adjusting the sound” on page 16 and “Turning on/off the BBE function” on page 17.

Storing your own sound adjustments

Y ou can adjust the sound control modes (BEAT, SOFT, POP: see page 18) to your preference and store your own adjustments in memory.

Your adjustment made for the selected sound control mode is stored in

memory.

Repeat the same procedure to adjust other items.

To reset to the factory settings

Repeat the same procedure and reassign the preset values listed in the table on page 18.

Setting the clock

Press and hold SEL (Select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the display.

Finish the setting.

To check the current clock time while the unit is turned off, press + or –. The power turns on, the clock time is shown for 5 seconds, then the power turns off.

Controlling the volume automatically (Audio Cruise)

You can select the proper cruise mode for your car. This unit change the volume level automatically (at 3 possible levels) based on the driving speed of your car by detecting the alternator’s generating frequency (Audio Cruise).

If you want to use this mode, follow the procedures belo w . When shipped from the factory , this mode is set to “CRUISE OFF.”

• CRUISE 1: Select this if your car is relatively quiet.

• CRUISE 2: Select this if your car is relatively loud. The volume increase rate is twice as much as that of the CRUISE 1 setting.

• CRUISE OFF: Cancels Audio Cruise.

Each time you press the button, the Audio Cruise mode changes as follows:

When this function is turned on (the CRUISE indicator lights up on the displa y), the proper volume level is automatically selected among the 3 possible levels according to the driving speed, and the selected level is shown on the display.

To adjust the volume increase rate

If you find Audio Cruise increases (or decreases) the volume either too much or too little as the driving speed changes, you can adjust the increase rate by changing the boost level. To change it, follow the procedure below.

1 Press and hold SEL (Select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items

appears on the display.

2 Press

¢ or 4 repeatedly until “CRUISE MODE” appears on the display.

3 Press + or – to select either “CRUISE 1” or “CRUISE 2.” 4 Press

¢ (or 4 ) to select “BOOST.”

The current boost level also appears on the display.

5 Press + or – to select the desired boost level (among 01 to 15). 6 Press SEL again to finish the setting.

If Audio Cruise does not function correctly

You may need to store the idling speed into memory to make Audio Cruise function correctly. NOTICE that a n umber of factors, such as electric pow er steering, wipers, power windows, air

conditioner, etc. do generate noises and, as a result, may cause A udio Cruise not to function correctly. If this is the main cause of malfunction, connect the memory backup lead (yellow lead) directly to the car battery to prevent these noises from affecting Audio Cruise.

1 Start the engine and let it warm up. 2 Press and hold SEL (Select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items

appears on the display.

3 Press

¢ or 4 repeatedly until “CRUISE MODE” appears on the display.

4 Press + or – to select either “CRUISE 1” or “CRUISE 2.” 5 Press

¢ (or 4 ) to select “+OR– RPM SET.”

6 Press + or – to select the desired idling speed. 7 Press SEL again to finish the setting.

When the setting is complete, the unit automatically checks to see if Audio Cruise functions

correctly with this new idling setting. If it does not function correctly , A udio Cruise is canceled automatically and the idling setting becomes invalid.

• If this happens, see the NOTICE above.

Changing the general settings (PSM)

Y ou can change the items listed on the next page by using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control.

To select the clock display

You can select either the clock or the source name to be shown on the lower part of the display. When shipped from the factory, the clock is selected.

• CLK DISP ON: Clock

• CLK DISP OFF:Source name (or station band)

To check the other information during play

Press DISP (Display). Each time you press the button, the other information (either the clock or the source name) will be shown on the lower part of the display for a while.

To select the level meter

You can select the level meter display according to your preference. When shipped from the factory, “NORMAL” is selected.

• NORMAL: Normal audio level meter

• HIGHWAY: Level meter illuminates as if you are driving on a highway.

• SIDE: Level meter illuminates horizontally.

• RACE: Level meter illuminates as if cars are racing.

• LEVEL OFF: Level meter stays lit and does not change its illumination.

• ALL OFF: Level meter turns off.

To select the dimmer mode

When you turn on the car head lights, the display automatically dims (Auto Dimmer). When shipped from the factory, Auto Dimmer mode is activated.

To turn on/off the key-touch tone

You can deactivate the key-touch tone if you do not want to make it beep when you press a button. When shipped from the factory, the key-touch tone is activated.

• BEEP ON: Activates the key-touch tone.

To turn on/off the power amplifier switch

You can s witch off the built-in amplifier and send the audio signals only to the external amplifier(s) to get clear sounds and to prevent internal heat buildup inside this unit. When shipped from the factory, the power amplifier switch is turned on so that the built-in amplifier works.

To adjust the display contrast level

You can adjust the display contrast level among 01 (dark) to 10 (bright). When shipped from the factory, the display contrast level is set at level 05.

To select the scroll mode

You can select the scroll mode for the disc information if it consists of more than 12 characters. When shipped from the factory, Auto Scroll mode is set to “SCROLL ONCE.”

• SCROLL ONCE: Scrolls only once.

• SCROLL AUTO: Repeats the scroll (5-second intervals in between).

• SCROLL OFF: Cancels Auto Scroll.

Note:

Even if the scroll mode is set to “SCROLL OFF,” you can scroll the display by pressing DISP for more than 1 second.

To select the subwoofer cutoff frequency

When a subwoofer is connected to this unit, select an appropriate cutoff frequency level for your subwoofer. When shipped from the factory, the subwoofer cutoff frequency is set to “MID.”

• FREQ LOW: Frequencies higher than 50 Hz are cut off to the subwoofer.

• FREQ MID: Frequencies higher than 80 Hz are cut off to the subwoofer.

• FREQ HIGH: Frequencies higher than 120 Hz are cut off to the subwoofer.

To change the AM/FM channel intervals

When this unit is shipped from the factory , the channel inter vals are set to 10 kHz for AM and 200 kHz for FM (AREA US settings). You will have to change the channel intervals when using this unit in an area other than North America and South America.

• AREA EU: Select this when using this unit in an area other than North and South America. (9 kHz for AM and 50 kHz (for manual tuning) / 100 kHz (for searching) for FM)

• AREA US: Select this when using this unit in North or South America. (10 kHz for AM and 200 kHz for FM)

Note:

If the channel intervals settings are changed, the names assigned to the stations will be erased from memory. To reassign the names, see “Assigning names to the sources” on pages 27 – 29.

Using the remote controller

Note: This button does not function for the prefer red setting mode

CD CHANGER OPERATIONS

We recommend that you use one of the CH-X series (ex: CH-X1200) with your unit. If you have another CD automatic changer , consult y our JVC car audio dealer for connections.

• F or e xample, if your CD automatic changer is one of the KD-MK ser ies, you need a cord (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.

Before operating your CD automatic changer:

• Refer also to the Instructions supplied with your CD changer.

• If no discs are in the magazine of the CD changer or the discs are inserted upside down, “NO DISC” will appear on the display. If this happens, remove the magazine and set the discs correctly.

• If “RESET 1 - RESET 8” appears on the display , something is wrong with the connection between this unit and the CD changer. If this happens, check the connection, connect the connecting cord(s) firmly if necessary , then press the reset button of the CD changer.

Using a subwoofer

By connecting a subwoofer to the SUBWOOFER OUT plugs on the rear, you can enjoy enhanced bass sounds and a more realistic theater atmosphere in your car.

MAINTENANCE

Handling CDs

This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the and marks. Other discs cannot be played back.

How to handle CDs

When removing a CD from its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.

• Always hold the CD by the edges. Do not touch its recording surface. When storing a CD into its case, gently insert the CD around the

center holder (with the printed surface facing up).

• Make sure to store CDs into the cases after use.

To keep CDs clean

A dirty CD may not pla y correctly. If a CD does become dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth in a straight line from center to edge.

To play new CDs

New CDs may hav e some rough spots around the inner and outer edges. If such a CD is used, this unit may reject the CD. To remove these rough spots, rub the edges with a pencil or ball-point pen, etc.

Moisture condensation

Moisture may condense on the lens inside the CD player in the following cases:

• After starting the heater in the car.

• If it becomes very humid inside the car. Should this occur, the CD player may malfunction. In this case, eject the CD and leave the unit turned on for a few hours until the moisture evaporates.

CAUTIONS:

• Do not insert 8cm (3 3/16") CDs (single CDs) into the loading slot. (Such CDs cannot be ejected.)

• Do not insert any CD of unusual shape — like a heart or flower; otherwise, it will cause a malfunction.

• Do not expose CDs to direct sunlight or any heat sour ce or place them in a place subject to high temperature and humidity. Do not leave them in a car.

• Do not use any solvent (for example, conventional record cleaner, spray, thinner, benzine, etc.) to clean CDs.

About mistracking:

Mistracking may result from driving on extremely rough roads. This does not damage the unit and the CD, but will be annoying. We recommend that you stop CD play while driving on such rough roads.

TROUBLESHOOTING

What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service centre.

Para activar “DEMO” (Demostracion)

Mientras mantiene pulsado DISP, pulse ¢ hasta que “DEMO” aparezca en la parte inferior de la pantalla. Las diversas funciones y modos de visualización en pantalla provistos para esta unidad se demostrarán repetidamente y en secuencia.

• El modo DEMO se desactivará automáticamente después de 1 hora.

Esta función acciona únicamente mientras se están buscando emisoras de FM, incluyendo el preajuste SSM (consulte la página 8). 1 Pulse MODE.

Aparece “MODE” en la parte inferior de la indicación, y los botones numéricos quedan activados como botones de diferentes funciones.

se enciende mientras se está recibiendo una radiodifusión en FM estéreo). Aparece “MODE” en la parte inferior de la indicación, y los botones numéricos quedan activados como botones de diferentes funciones.

2 Pulse MONO (monofónico) mientras “MODE” continúa visualizado en la indicación, para

que el indicador MO se encienda en la indicación. El sonido escuchado se vuelve monofónico pero se conseguirá mejorar la recepción (el indicador ST se apaga). Cada vez que pulsa el botón, el indicador MO se enciende y apaga alternativamente.

Cómo almacenar emisoras en la memoria

Las emisoras podrán almacenarse en la memoria mediante uno de los dos métodos siguientes.

• Preajuste automático de emisoras FM: SSM (Memoria secuencial de las emisoras más fuertes)

• Preajuste manual de ambas emisoras FM y AM

Preajuste automático de emisoras FM: SSM

Pueden preajustarse 6 emisoras FM locales en cada banda FM (FM1, FM2 y FM3).

Seleccione el número de banda FM (FM1, FM2 o FM3) en que desea almacenar las emisoras FM.

Las emisoras FM locales con las señales más intensas serán exploradas y almacenadas automáticamente en el número de banda seleccionado (FM1, FM2 o FM3). Estas emisoras quedan preajustadas en los botones No. 1 (frecuencia más baja) a No. 6 (frecuencia más alta). Cuando finalice el preajuste automático, se sintonizará automáticamente la emisora almacenada en el botón número 1.

Pulse y mantenga pulsado ambos botones durante más de 2 segundos.

Aparece y se mantiene visualizado “SSM” hasta finalizar el preajuste automático.

Preajuste manual

Podrá preajustar manualmente hasta 6 emisoras en cada banda (FM1, FM2, FM3 y AM). EJEMPLO: Almacenamiento de una emisora FM de 88,3 MHz en el número de preajuste 1

de la banda FM1

Repita el procedimiento de arriba para almacenar otras emisoras en los otros números de preajuste.

Notas:

• La emisora preajustada previamente se borra cuando se almacena una emisora nueva en el mismo número de preajuste.

• Si se deja de suministrar energía al cir cuito de la memoria (por ejemplo, durante el r eemplazo de la batería) se borrarán todas las emisoras preajustadas. Si así sucede , vuelva a pr eajustar las emisoras.

Cómo sintonizar una emisora preajustada

Las emisoras preajustadas pueden sintonizarse fácilmente. Tenga presente que primero deberá almacenar las emisoras. Si todavía no lo ha hecho, consulte las páginas 8 y 9.

OPERACION DEL REPRODUCTOR DE CD

Para reproducir un CD

Inserte un disco en la ranura de carga.

La unidad introduce el CD, el panel indicador se mueve hacia arriba, y

el CD comienza a reproducirse automáticamente.

• Cuando el CD esté insertado al revés, aparecerá “DISC EJECT” en la indicación y el CD será expulsado automáticamente.

• Cuando usted reproduce el CD Text, aparecerán en la indicación el título del disco y el nombre del ejecutante. Lueg o aparecerán la pista actual y e l tiempo de r eproducción transcurrido. Consulte también “Reproducción del CD Text” (página 12) y “Selección del modo de desplazamiento” (página 26). Si un CD Text incluye mucha información de texto, una parte puede no aparecer en la indicación.

Cuando esté activado el modo aleatorio, el indicador RND se enciende en la indicación y comenzará a reproducirse la pista seleccionada al azar.

2 Pulse INT (Intro) mientras “MODE” continúa visualizándose en la

indicación. Cada vez que pulsa el botón, el modo de búsqueda de introducción de CD se activa y desactiva alternativamente. Cuando esté activado el modo de búsqueda de introducción, el indicador “INTRO” se enciende en la indicación durante 5 segundos y el número de la pista destella.

Prohibición de la expulsión del CD

Es posible inhibir la expulsión del CD y bloquear el CD dentro de la ranura de carga. Mientras pulsa FUNC (Función), pulse y mantenga pulsado OFF/0 durante más de 2

segundos. “NO EJECT” destella en la indicación durante aproximadamente 5 segundos, y el CD queda bloqueado para que no pueda expulsarse.

Para cancelar la prohibición y desbloquear el CD, pulse y mantenga pulsado OFF/0 otra vez durante más de 2 segundos mientras pulsa FUNC. “EJECT OK” destella en la indicación durante aproximadamente 5 segundos, y el CD queda desbloqueado.

Activado/desactivado de la función BBE

La función BBE* restablece la brillantez y la claridad del sonido original durante la grabación, radiodifusión, etc. Al reproducirse el sonido, el altavoz introduce el desplazamiento de fase dependiente de la frecuencia, haciendo que los sonidos de alta frecuencia tarden más que los sonidos de baja frecuencia en llegar al oído. La función BBE ajusta la relación de fase entre las frecuencias bajas, medias y altas añadiendo un tiempo de retardo progresivamente mayor a las frecuencias bajas y medias, para que todas las frecuencias lleguen al oído del oyente en el momento adecuado. Para controlar automáticamente el volumen (Crucero de audio)

Podrá seleccionar el modo de crucero de audio apropiado para su automóvil. Esta unidad cambia automáticamente el nivel de volumen (a 3 niv eles posibles) de acuerdo con la velocidad de su automóvil, detectando la frecuencia generada por el alternador (Crucero de audio). Si desea utilizar este modo, realice el procedimiento de abajo . La unidad se expide de fábrica con este modo ajustado a “CRUISE OFF”.

• CRUISE 1: Selecciónelo si hay poco ruido en su automóvil.

• CRUISE 2: Selecciónelo si hay mucho ruido en su automóvil. El índice de aumento de volumen será el doble del ajuste de CRUISE 1.

• CRUISE OFF: Se cancela el crucero de audio.

Si nota que el índice de aumento (o disminución) del volumen para el crucero de audio es excesivo o insuficiente cuando cambia la velocidad de conducción, se podrá ajustar modificando el nivel de refuerzo. Para ello, realice el procedimiento siguiente.

1 Pulse y mantenga pulsado SEL (Selección) durante más de 2 segundos para que aparezca

uno de los ítemes de PSM en la indicación.

¢ o 4 repetidas veces hasta que “CRUISE MODE” aparezca en la

indicación.

El nivel de refuerzo actual también aparece en la indicación.

5 Pulse + o – para seleccionar el nivel de refuerzo (entre 01 a 15). 6 Pulse SEL otra vez para finalizar el ajuste.

Si el crucero de audio no funciona correctamente

Es posible que deba almacenar la velocidad de ralentí en la memoria para que el crucero de audio funcione correctamente.

TENGA EN CUENTA que diversos factores, tales como dirección asistida, limpiapar abrisas, ventanillas eléctricas, acondicionador de aire, etc., generan ruidos y como resultado, pueden impedir el buen funcionamiento del crucero de audio. Si esta es la causa principal del fallo de funcionamiento, conecte el conductor de refuerzo de memoria (conductor amarillo) directamente a la batería del automóvil para evitar que estos ruidos afecten al crucero de audio.

1 Ponga en marcha el motor y déjelo calentar. 2 Pulse y mantenga pulsado SEL (Selección) durante más de 2 segundos para que aparezca

uno de los ítemes de PSM en la indicación.

¢ o 4 repetidas veces hasta que aparezca “CRUISE MODE” en la

indicación.

Cuando finalice el ajuste, la unidad verificará automáticamente si el crucero de audio funciona

correctamente con el ajuste de ralentí nuevo. Si no funciona correctamente, el crucero de audio se cancelará automáticamente y el ajuste de ralentí quedará inválido.

• Si así sucede, consulte “TENGA EN CUENTA” de arriba.

Cambio de los ajustes generales (PSM)

Podrá cambiar los ítemes listados en la página siguiente utilizando el control PSM (Modo de ajuste preferido).

Selección de la indicación de reloj

Para verificar la otra información durante la reproducción

Pulse DISP (Indicación). Cada v ez que usted pulsa el botón, la otra inf ormación (ya sea el reloj o el nombre de la fuente) aparecerá en la parte inferior de la indicación durante un momento.

Selección del indicador de nivel

Podrá seleccionar la indicación de nivel que más le agrade. La unidad se expide de fábrica con la opción “NORMAL” seleccionada.

• NORMAL: Indicador de nivel de audio normal

• HIGHWAY: El indicador de nivel se ilumina como si estuviera conduciendo sobre una autopista.

• SIDE: El indicador de nivel se ilumina horizontalmente.

• RACE: El indicador de nivel se ilumina como si se estuviera realizando una carrera de coches.

• LEVEL OFF: El indicador de nivel permanece iluminado y su iluminación no cambia.

• ALL OFF: El indicador de nivel se apaga.

Selección del modo reductor de luz

Cuando usted enciende los faros del automóvil, se reduce el brillo de la indicación (Reductor automático de luz). La unidad se expide de fábrica con el modo reductor de luz ajustado a activado.

• DIMMER AUTO: Reductor automático de luz activado.

• DIMMER OFF: Reductor automático de luz desactivado.

• DIMMER ON: Siempre reduce el brillo de la indicación.

Nota sobre el reductor automático de luz:

El reductor automático de luz equipado con esta unidad podría no funcionar correctamente en algunos vehículos, especialmente aquellos que tienen un disco de control para graduar la luz. En este caso, ajuste el modo reductor de luz a “DIMMER ON” u “DIMMER OFF”.

Activado/desactivado del tono de pulsación de teclas

Podrá desactivar el tono de pulsación de teclas si no desea que suene un pitido cada v ez que pulsa un botón. La unidad se expide de fábrica con el tono de pulsación de teclas activado.

• BEEP ON: Tono de pulsación de teclas activado.

• BEEP OFF:Tono de pulsación de teclas desactivado.

Activado/desactivado del interruptor del amplificador de potencia

Podrá desactiv ar el amplificador incorporado y enviar las señales de audio solamente al(los) amplificador(es) externo(s) para obtener sonidos nítidos y evitar que se caliente el interior de la unidad. La unidad se expide de fábrica con el interruptor del amplificador de potencia activado para que el amplificador de potencia funcione.

• P.AMP ON: Seleccione este modo cuando no esté usando el(los) amplificador(es) de potencia externo(s).

• P.AMP OFF: Seleccione este modo cuando esté usando el(los) amplificador(es) de potencia externo(s).

Ajuste del nivel de contraste de la indicación

Podrá ajustar el nivel de contraste de la indicación entre 01 (oscuro) a 10 (brillante). La unidad se expide de fábrica con el nivel de contraste ajustado al nivel 05.

Selección del modo de desplazamiento

Podrá seleccionar el modo de desplazamiento para la indicación del nombre y la información del disco, si tienen más de 12 caracteres. La unidad se expide de fábrica con el modo de desplazamiento automático ajustado a “SCROLL ONCE”.

• SCROLL ONCE: Desplaza sólo una vez.

• SCROLL AUTO: Repite el desplazamiento (Intervalos de 5 segundos en medio).

• SCROLL OFF: Se cancela el desplazamiento automático.

Nota:

Aunque el modo de desplazamiento esté ajustado a “SCROLL OFF”, podrá desplazar la indicación pulsando DISP durante más de 1 segundo.

Selección de la frecuencia de corte del subwoofer

Cuando hay un subwoofer conectado a esta unidad, seleccione el nivel de frecuencia de corte apropiado para su subwoofer . La unidad se expide de fábrica con la frecuencia de corte de subwoofer ajustado a “MID”.

• FREQ LOW: Se suspenden las frecuencias superiores a 50 Hz para este subwoofer.

• FREQ MID: Se suspenden las frecuencias superiores a 80 Hz para este subwoofer.

• FREQ HIGH: Se suspenden las frecuencias superiores a 120 Hz para este subwoofer.

Cambio de los intervalos entre canales AM/FM

Esta unidad se expide de fábrica con los intervalos entre canales ajustados a 10 kHz para AM y a 200 kHz para FM (ajustes para AREA US). Deberá cambiar los intervalos entre canales cuando utilice esta unidad en un área que no sea Norteamérica o Sudamérica.

Empleo del mando a distancia

1 • La unidad se enciende si pulsa brevemente.

• La unidad se apaga si pulsa y mantiene pulsado hasta

que aparezca “SEE YOU” en la indicación.

2 • Funciona como el botón BAND mientras escucha la radio.

Cada vez que pulsa este botón, la banda cambia.

• Funciona como el botón DISC + mientras escucha el cambiador de CD. Cada vez que presiona el botón, el número de disco aumenta, y se inicia la reproducción del disco seleccionado.

• No funciona como el botón PROG.

3 • Funciona como el botón PRESET mientras está

escuchando la radio. Cada vez que presiona el botón, el número de estación presintonizada aumenta y la estación seleccionada es sintonizada.

• Funciona como el botón DISC – mientras escucha el cambiador de CD. Cada vez que presiona el botón, el número de disco decrece, y se inicia la reproducción del disco seleccionado.

4 Realiza las mismas funciones que el botón + / – de la unidad

principal.

Nota: Este botón no funciona para controlar el modo de ajustes

preferidos.

5 Seleccione la fuente.

Cada vez que presiona FUNC (Función), la fuente cambia.

6 • Busca estaciones mientras escucha la radio.

• Avanza o retrocede hasta la pista si lo mantiene presionado mientras escucha el CD.

• Salta al principio de la próxima pista o retrocede al principio de la pista actual (o de la anterior) si lo presiona brevemente mientras escucha el CD.

OPERACION DEL CAMBIADOR DE CD

Recomendamos emplear uno de la serie CH-X (ej.: CH-X1200) con su unidad. Si tiene otro cambiador automático de CD , consulte con su concesionario de JVC de equipos de audio para automóviles.

• Por ejemplo, si su cambiador automático de CD es uno de la ser ie KD-MK, necesitará un cable (KSU15K) para conectarlo a esta unidad.

Antes de operar su cambiador automático de CD:

• Refiérase también a las instrucciones suministradas con su cambiador de CD.

• Si no hay discos en el magazín del cambiador de CD o cuando los discos estén insertados boca abajo, aparecerá “NO DISC” en el visor . En este caso , saque el magazín y ponga los discos correctamente.

Cómo tratar los CD

Cuando saque el CD de su caja, presione el sujetador central de la caja y extraiga el CD agarrándolo por los bordes.

• Siempre sujete el CD por los bordes. No toque su superficie de grabación.

Cuando guarde el CD en su caja, insértelo suavemente alrededor del sujetador central (con la superficie impresa hacia arriba).

• Asegúrese de guardar el CD en su caja después de utilizarlo.

Para mantener los CD limpios

Un CD sucio podría no reproducir correctamente. Si llegar a a ensuciarse, utilice un lienzo suave y limpie con movimientos rectos desde el centro hacia el borde.

Para reproducir un CD nuevo

Algunos CD nuevos podrían presentar ciertas irregularidades en sus bordes interior y exterior. Si intenta introducir un CD en estas condiciones podría suceder que la unidad rechace el CD. Elimine las irregularidades raspando con un lápiz, bolígrafo, etc.

Condensación de humedad

Podría condensarse humedad en la lente alojada en el interior del reproductor de CD en los siguientes casos:

• Después de encender el calefactor del automóvil.

• Si hay mucha humedad en el habitáculo.

En estos casos el reproductor de CD podría no funcionar correctamente. Haga expulsar el CD y deje la unidad encendida durante algunas horas hasta que se evapore la unidad.

PRECAUCIONES:

• No inserte un CD de 8cm (CD simples) en la ranura de carga. (Estos tipos de CD no pueden ser expulsados).

• No inserte ningún CD cuya forma no sea la habitual — un corazón o una flor , por ejemplo, pues se producirá una avería.

• No exponga los CD a los rayos directos del sol ni a otra fuente de calor, ni en sitios sujetos a temperatura y humedad elevadas. No los deje dentro del automóvil.

• No utilice ningún solvente (por ejemplo, limpiador de discos convenciona, pulverizadores, diluyente, bencina, etc.) para limpiar los CD.

Acerca del mal seguimiento:

El mal seguimiento es un defecto que podría suceder cuando conduce por caminos muy accidentados. Esto no produce daños a la unidad ni al CD, pero resultará muy molesto. Se recomienda detener la reproducción del CD cuando conduzca por caminos accidentados.

LOCALIZACION DE AVERIAS

Lo que aparenta ser una avería podría resolverse fácilmente. Verifique los siguientes puntos antes de acudir al centro de servicio.

Síntomas

• No se puede reproducir el CD.

• El sonido del CD se interrumpe algunas veces.

• El sonido no sale por los altavoces.

• El preajuste automático SSM (Memoria secuencia de las emisoras fuertes) no funciona.

• Hay ruidos estáticos mientras se escucha la radio.

• “NO DISC” aparece en el visor.

• “EJECT ERROR” aparece en el visor, y no se puede expulsar el CD.

• En la pantalla no aparece ningún mensaje, pero no es posible expulsar el CD.

• Esta unidad no funciona en absoluto.

• El cambiador de CD no funciona en absoluto.

El CD está insertado boca abajo.

Está conduciendo por caminos accidentados.

El CD está rayado. Las conexiones son incorrectas.

El nivel de volumen está ajustado al mínimo.

Las señales son muy débiles.

La antena no está firmemente conectada.

No hay CD en el magazin.

La unidad no está correctamente conectada al cambiador de CD.

El reproductor de CD está funcionando incorrectamente.

El microcomputador incorporado podría no funcionar correctamente debido a los ruidos, etc.

Après avoir installé l’appareil ou si vous avez des problèmes de fonctionnement, réinitialisez le micro-

ordinateur intégré à cet appareil. Appuyez sur la touche de réinitialisation sur le panneau avant en utilisant un stylo-bille ou un objet similaire.

Pour mettre en service le mode de démonstration (DEMO)

En maintenant pressée DISP, appuy ez sur ¢ jusqu’à ce que “DEMO” apparaisse sur la partie inférieure de l’affichage. Les divers modes et f onctions d’affichage qui équipent cet appareil sont montrés sur l’affichage les uns après les autres.

• Le mode DEMO se met automatiquement hors service après une heure.

Pour mettre le mode DEMO hors service, appuyez de nouveau sur

¢ en maintenant pressée DISP jusqu’à ce que “DEMO”

disparaisse de la partie inférieure de l’affichage.

Comment utiliser les touches numériques:

Après avoir appuyé sur MODE (pendant que “MODE” apparaît sur l’affichage), les touches numériques peuvent être utilisées comme touches de diverses fonctions.

Pour utiliser ces touches comme touc he numérique après avoir appuyé sur MODE,

attendez 5 secondes sans appuyer sur aucune touche numérique de façon que “MODE” disparaisse de l’affichage.

• Appuyer de nouveau sur MODE efface aussi “MODE” de l’affichage.

2 Appuyez sur MONO (monaural), pendant que “MODE” apparaît sur l’affichage, de façon

que l’indicateur MO s’allume sur l’affichage. Le son devient monaural mais la réception est améliorée (l’indicateur ST s’éteint). Chaque fois que vous appuyez sur la touche, l’indicateur MO s’allume et s’éteint alternativement.

Mémorisation des stations

V ous pouvez utiliser l’une des deux méthodes suiv antes pour mémoriser les stations reçues.

• Présélection automatique des stations FM: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory)

• Présélection manuelle des stations FM et AM

Présélection automatique des stations FM: SSM

Vous pouvez présélectionner 6 stations locales dans chaque bande FM (FM1, FM2 et FM3).

FRANÇAIS

Choisissez le numéro de la bande FM (FM1, FM2 ou FM3) où vous souhaitez mémoriser la station.

Maintenez pressées les deux touches pendant plus de 2 secondes.

“SSM” apparaît, puis disparaît quand la présélection automatique est terminée.

Les stations locales FM avec les signaux les plus for ts sont recherchées et mémorisées automatiquement dans le numéro de bande que vous avez choisi (FM1, FM2 ou FM3). Ces stations sont mémorisées sur les touches de présélection de station — No. 1 (fréquence la plus basse) à No. 6 (fréquence la plus haute). Quand la présélection est terminée, la station mémorisée automatiquement sur la touche de présélection de station 1 est accordée automatiquement.

Présélection manuelle

Vous pouvez présélectionner manuellement un maximum de 6 stations pour chaque bande (FM1, FM2, FM3 et AM).

EXEMPLE: Mémorisation de la station FM située à 88,3 MHz sur le numéro de présélection

1 de la bande FM1.

Choisissez la bande FM1.

Accordez une station à 88,3 MHz.

Voir la page 6 pour accorder une station.

Maintenez pressée la touche numérique (dans cet exemple, 1) pendant plus de 2 secondes.

Le numéro de bande et “MEMO“ apparaissent alternativement pendant quelques instants.

Répétez la procédure ci-dessus pour mémoriser d’autres stations sur d’autres numéros de présélection.

Remarques:

• La station précédemment présélectionnée est effacée quand une nouvelle station est mémorisée sur le même numéro de présélection.

• Les stations présélectionnées sont effacées si l’alimentation du circuit mémoire est inter r ompue (par exemple, pendant le changement de la batterie). Si cela se produit, présélectionnez de nouveau les stations.

Accord d’une station présélectionnée

Vous pouvez accorder facilement une station présélectionnée. Rappelez-vous que vous devez d’abord mémoriser les stations. Si vous ne les avez pas encore mémorisées, reportez-vous aux pages 8 et 9.

FONCTIONNEMENT DU LECTEUR CD

Lecture d’un CD

Ouvrez le panneau de commande.

Le panneau d’affichage descend et la fente d’insertion apparaît.

Remarques:

• Quand un CD est dans la fente d’insertion, choisir “CD” comme source en appuyant sur FUNC, démarre la lecture du CD.

• Si un CD est inséré à l’envers, “DISC EJECT” apparaît sur l’affichage et le CD est éjecté automatiquement.

• Quand vous reproduisez un CD Text, le titre du disque et l’interprète apparaît sur l’affichage. La plage actuelle et la durée de lectur e écoulée apparaissent ensuite. Référ ez-vous aussi à “Lecture des CD Text” (page 12) et “Sélection du mode de défilement” (page 26). Si un CD Text comprend beaucoup d’informations textes, certaines peuvent ne pas apparaître sur l’affichage.

Pour arrêter la lecture et éjecter le CD

Appuyez brièvement sur OFF/0. La lecture du CD s’arrête, le panneau d’affichage descend et le CD est éjecté automatiquement de la fente d’insertion.

• Si vous changer la source, la lecture du CD s’arrête aussi (mais le CD n’est pas éjecté dans ce cas).

Pour refermer le panneau d’affichage, appuyez sur ATTENTION: N’INSÉREZ JAMAIS un doigt entre le

panneau d’affichage et l’appareil, car il pourrait être attrapé par l’appareil.

Insérez un disque dans la fente de chargement.

L’appareil tire le CD, le panneau d’affichage remonte et la lecture du CD commence automatiquement.

Dans un CD Text, cer taines informations à propos du disque (son titre, l’interprète et le titre de la plage) sont enregistrées. Vous pouvez afficher certaines de ces informations sur l’affichage.

2 Appuyez sur RPT (répétition) pendant que “MODE” apparaît sur

Mise en/hors service de la fonction BBE

La fonction BBE* rétablit la brillance et la clarté du son original d’un enregistrement, d’une émission, etc. Quand une enceinte reproduit le son, elle introduit un décalage de phase en fonction de la fréquence, faisant que les sons haute fréquence prennent plus longtemps à atteindre l’oreille que les sons basse fréquence. La fonction BBE ajuste la relation de phase entre les basses , moyennes et hautes fréquences en ajoutant un délai progressivement plus long aux basses et moyennes fréquences, de f açon que toutes les fréquences atteignent l’oreille de l’auditeur au moment correct. En plus, la fonction BBE accentue les basses et les hautes fréquences, que les haut-parleurs reproduisent moins efficacement, par une augmentation dynamique pilotée par un programme. Combiné avec la compensation de phase, le son obtenu a une présence de “direct” plus claire et plus fine.

Commande du volume automatiquement (Croisière audio)

Vous pouvez choisir le mode de croisière correct pour votre voiture. Cet appareil change le volume automatiquement (sur 3 niveaux possibles) en fonction de la vitesse du véhicule en détectant la fréquence génératrice de l’alternateur (Croisière audio). Si vous souhaitez utiliser ce mode, suivez les procédures ci-dessous . A l’expédition de l’usine , ce mode est réglé sur “CRUISE OFF”.

• CRUISE 1: Choisissez ce réglage si votre voiture est relativement silencieuse.

• CRUISE 2: Choisissez ce réglage si votre voiture est relativement bruyante. Le taux d’augmentation du volume est double de celui du réglage

CRUISE 1.

• CRUISE OFF: Annule la croisière automatique.

Maintenez pressée SEL (Sélection) pendant plus de 2 secondes de façon que l’un des éléments PSM apparaisse sur l’affichage.

Choisissez “CRUISE MODE”.

Choisissez le réglage souhaité.

Chaque fois que vous appuyez sur la touche, le mode de croisière audio

change comme suit:

CRUISE OFF

Terminez le réglage.

Quand cette fonction est en service (l’indicateur CRUISE s’allume sur l’affichage), le niveau de volume correct est automatiquement choisi parmi 3 niveaux possibles en fonction de la vitesse du véhicule et le niveau choisi est montré sur l’affichage.

Quand la vitesse augmente.

Pour ajuster le taux d’accroissement du volume

Si vous trouvez que la croisière automatique augmente trop (ou diminue trop) le volume quand la vitesse de la voiture change, vous pouvez ajuster le taux d’augmentation en changeant le niveau d’accentuation. Pour le changer, suivez la procédure ci-dessous.

2 Appuyez répétitivement sur

¢ ou 4 jusqu’à ce que “CRUISE MODE” apparaisse

sur l’affichage.

3 Appuyez sur + ou – pour choisir “CRUISE 1” ou “CRUISE 2”. 4 Appuyez sur

¢ (ou 4 ) pour choisir “BOOST”.

Le niveau d’accentuation actuel apparaît sur l’affichage.

5 Appuyez sur + ou – pour choisir le niveau d’accentuation souhaité (de 01 à 15). 6 Appuyez de nouveau sur SEL pour terminer le réglage.

Si la croisière audio ne fonctionne pas correctement

Vous devez peut-être enregistrer la vitesse au ralenti en mémoire pour que la fonction de croisière audio fonctionne correctement.

NOTEZ que un certain nombre de facteurs, tels que la direction assistée, les essuie-glaces, les glaces à commande électrique, la climatisation, etc. peuvent générer du bruit et faire que la fonction de croisière audio ne fonctionne pas correctement. Si c’est la cause principale du mauvais fonctionnement, connectez le fil de sauvegarde de la mémoire (fil jaune) directement à la batterie de la voiture pour éviter que ces bruits affectent la croisière audio.

1 Démarrez le moteur et laissez-le chauffer. 2 Maintenez pressée SEL (Sélection) pendant plus de 2 secondes de façon que l’un des

éléments PSM apparaisse sur l’affichage.

3 Appuyez répétitivement sur

¢ ou 4 jusqu’à ce que “CRUISE MODE” apparaisse

sur l’affichage.

4 Appuyez sur + ou – pour choisir “CRUISE 1” ou “CRUISE 2”. 5 Appuyez sur

¢ (ou 4 ) pour choisir “+OR– RPM SET”.

6 Appuyez sur + ou – pour choisir le niveau de vitesse de ralenti souhaité. 7 Appuyez de nouveau sur SEL pour terminer le réglage.

Quand le réglage est terminé, l’appareil vérifie automatiquement pour voir si la croisière audio

fonctionne correctement avec ce nouveau réglage du ralenti. S’il ne fonctionne pas correctement, la croisière audio est annulée automatiquement et le réglage du ralenti est invalidé.

Modification des réglages généraux (PSM)

Vous pouvez modifier les éléments de la liste de la page suivante en utilisant la commande PSM (Preferred Setting Mode — Mode de réglage préféré).
