INTRODUCTION

Your Invacare Stratos Portable Nebulizer is the latest in
portable compressor nebulizer technology. The purpose of the
nebulizer is to convert your liquid medication into a fine mist
that can be drawn into your lungs to relieve your respiratory
condition. The nebulizer is very portable and lightweight. For
even greater convenience, ask your dealer about the optional
battery pack that is sold separately.

To maximize your benefit from the nebulizer, we recommend
you read and understand the information in the operating
manual. By following your doctor’s advice and these simple
instructions, the nebulizer system will become a valuable part
of your daily treatment routine.

Compressor

If the unit shuts down frequently or fails to start, you may
have a low voltage situation.

Low voltage can also be suspected when:

• The compressor fails to start or motor does not get up to
full power or speed.

• Other motor operated appliances fail to operate properly
or too many motor operated appliances are on same
circuit.

Extension Cords

Make certain extension cord is in good condition. Make
certain extension cord wire is NOT LESS than 18 gauge for 25
feet.

Shipping Instructions

The shipping container has been designed to assure
protection of this device.

If this device is to be reshipped by common carrier, it should
be packed in the same carton.

Unpacking

1. Check for any obvious damage to the carton or its
contents. If damage is evident, DO NOT use. Notify
Carrier/Invacare or your local Invacare Dealer.

2. Remove all the loose packing from the carton.

3. Carefully remove all the components from the carton.

NOTE: Retain carton and packing materials for use in shipping or
storing the unit until use is required.

Inspection

1. Examine exterior for nicks, dents, scratches or other
damage. Inspect all components.

 WARNING

Keep the nebulizer tubing, cord, and unit away from heated
or hot surfaces, including space heaters, electric blankets,
stoves and similar electrical appliances.

NEVER drop or insert objects into any opening or hose.

NEVER use while sleeping or drowsy.

NEVER block the air openings of the product or place it on a
soft surface, such as a bed or couch, where the air openings
may be blocked. Keep the air openings free from lint, hair and
the like. Blocked openings may cause the unit to shut down.
Contact dealer immediately.

The Stratos compressor nebulizer system uses the
surrounding air to effectively administer the prescribed
medication through the nebulizer. The user and administrator
should be aware of surroundings so as not to have
contaminated air filtered through the compressor nebulizer
system. (Examples can be air contaminated with paint or
cleaning fumes, weed killer, car exhaust, etc.)

DO NOT use the Stratos compressor nebulizer system in these
environments. Otherwise, serious bodily injury may occur.

This unit is oil-less. DO NOT lubricate.

 WARNING

This equipment is NOT suitable for use in the presence of a
flammable anesthetic mixture with air or with nitrous oxide.

DO NOT operate the compressor while it is still in the
carrying case.

When not administering treatment, keep out of the reach of
small children. Some of the parts of the nebulizer are small
enough for children to swallow. The tubing may present a
strangulation hazard

NEVER touch the unit with wet hands.

DO NOT pull on the power cord to unplug the unit from an
electrical outlet.

DO NOT overload wall outlets.

Pump maintenance MUST be performed by a qualified
service technician.

Remove the compressor from the carrying case before
use.

DO NOT operate unit without filter.

Avoid operating this product in a dusty environment.
Otherwise, premature compressor wear could occur.

Setup

NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 2.1 on page 17.

1. Wash your hands before you begin the treatment
procedure.

2. Place the device on a table so that the controls can be
reached when seated.

3. Make sure the nebulizer is firmly seated in holder.

4. Remove the nebulizer from the compressor by pulling
straight up.

5. Open the nebulizer by pulling up on the top while
securely holding the bottom.

6. Make sure the cone is correctly positioned in the cup.

 WARNING

DO NOT exceed the maximum allowed quantity of six ml
of medication. The maximum capacity of the nebulizer
medication cup is 6 ml.

CAUTION

NEVER pour medication into the nebulizer seat area for
the compressor. Damage to the compressor will occur.

pre-measured dose or
ampoule (FIGURE 2.1).

9. Place the tubing adapter into the compressor outlet and
rotate it counter clockwise to lock the adapter in place. The
tubing connector is then firmly inserted into the bottom of
the nebulizer.

CAUTION

Use only the original tubing adapter. DO NOT squeeze or
kink the tubing.

10. In high humidity conditions, moisture or condensation
can occur in the tubing adapter. If this happens, simply
turn on the compressor with the tubing adapter attached
and run for 2 - 3 minutes or hang the tubing adapter so the
moisture can drain out.

11. Connect the mouthpiece to the nebulizer.

 WARNING

DO NOT use the nebulizer mouthpiece, compressor or
tubing with other compressors, nebulizer mouthpieces or
tubing. Otherwise, this may produce incorrect flow,
resulting in improper treatment.

12. To use with battery, charge for 16 hours. Refer to
Conditioning the Battery on page 24.

13. To use the nebulizer with the power cord, connect the
power cord plug into the power outlet on the side of the
nebulizer compressor. Connect the power cord to the
adapter and insert the plug into the electrical outlet.

14. To use the nebulizer with the DC auto adapter, connect the
DC auto adapter to the power outlet on the side of the
nebulizer compressor. Connect the auto adapter plug of
the DC cord to the auto adapter receptacle.

 DANGER

To avoid the risk of possible electrical shock, the
nebulizer must be operated on the specified power
source.

Treatment Instructions

NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 2.2.

NOTE: The Invacare Stratos Portable Nebulizer has been designed
for intermittent use. Normal treatment time should be five to ten
minutes. Turn off the nebulizer after 20 minutes of use and allow the
device to cool down 40 minutes before turning it on again.

1. Sit in a relaxed and upright position.

2. Turn on the device by pushing the ON/OFF button.

3. Begin treatment by
placing the nebulizer
mouthpiece between
your teeth and close your
mouth. Inhale deeply and
slowly as the aerosol
begins to flow and then
exhale slowly.

4. When treatment is
completed, turn off the
nebulizer and unplug the
power adapter.

Battery Specifications

The optional battery used with the Invacare Stratos Portable
Nebulizer requires a few simple precautions to ensure proper
operation and to avoid damage to the nebulizer or to the
battery. When used correctly, the battery can operate the
nebulizer for approximately 35 minutes. Battery operation
may vary due to charge conditions and care.

 WARNING

Use only the original batteries supplied by Invacare.
Carefully follow the instructions for operating the unit.
Any other kind of use constitutes an improper use and is
therefore dangerous. Invacare cannot be held liable for
any damage caused by improper, incorrect or
unreasonable use.

CAUTION

In case of failure and/or malfunction, turn the unit off and
read the operating manual. DO NOT attempt to open the
plastic case or to replace any components.

DO NOT short circuit battery contacts. Make sure
battery contacts do not come in contact with keys, coins
or other metal objects.

The battery has protection from overheating and will not
operate if temperature is 104ºF (40ºC) or higher. Allow
the battery to cool before restarting.

 WARNING

To charge battery, use only the original power cable (AC)
or auto adapter cable (DC). Using non-original equipment
may result in damage to the battery.

Charging of the battery requires at least 16 hours. Failure
to condition the battery prior to its first use may result in
a reduced battery life expectancy.

DO NOT dispose of the battery pack in the household
waste. Proper disposal at an appropriate collection site
provided in your local area is strongly recommended.

DO NOT dispose batteries in fire, as they could explode.

Conditioning the Battery

NOTE: The definition of conditioning the battery is simply charging
the battery.

1. Disconnect the battery from the compressor.

2. Connect the power cable (AC) or auto adapter cable (DC)
to the battery.

The orange light will indicate if the battery is properly
charging. Battery charging to full capacity is dependent upon
many factors. Charging of the battery requires at least 16
hours. Failure to condition the battery prior to its first use may
result in a reduced battery life expectancy. To assure
maximum life performance of the battery after conditioning,
leave the battery connected to a power source when not in
use.

The battery operation time depends upon the charge
condition of the battery, the temperature, the storage time of
the battery prior to use, the amount of medication used for
treatment, and the number of charge/discharge cycles. The

manufacturer of the battery recommends the battery be
conditioned every four months.

Using the Portable Nebulizer Battery

1. Align the rubber feet of the compressor with the
indentations on the battery pack.

2. While holding the battery pack and compressor, push in
the two tabs on the side of the battery pack.

3. Gently pull the compressor and battery pack in opposite
directions to ensure the tabs have seated properly.

NOTE: The GREEN light on the battery will not illuminate while
the nebulizer is being powered. The RED light will turn on when the
battery power level is low. When the RED light is on, immediately
find an alternative power source.

4. To remove the battery pack, press in the two tabs on the
side of the battery pack and pull the two pieces apart.

Charging the Battery

The battery can be charged with either the power cable (AC)
or the auto adapter cable (DC). Plug the cable into the
appropriate power source. The ORANGE battery light will
turn on indicating that the charging cycle has begun. The
battery will reach full charge after at least 16 hours.

Completion of the charge cycle is indicated by a green battery
light. Full charge will provide approximately 35 minutes of
operation.

NOTE: In order to ensure maximum performance of the battery,
keep the battery plugged in and charging when it is not in use. This
will not overcharge or damage the battery.

NOTE: The battery must be plugged into a power source for the
battery to charge. The battery will not charge when it is attached to
the compressor nebulizer system.

NOTE: NEVER leave the battery connected to either power cable
when the cable is disconnected from the power source. This will
cause the battery to discharge.

Following the cleaning instructions after each use will prevent
any remaining medication in the bottle from drying and
causing the device to nebulize ineffectively.

It is recommended that the disposable nebulizer and the
mouthpiece be thoroughly rinsed with hot tap water after
each use and cleaned with a mild detergent after the last
treatment of the day. The same pieces must also be disinfected
daily by soaking in a vinegar/water solution or a
commercially available disinfectant. If your physician or
respiratory therapist specifies a different cleaning procedure,
follow their instructions

Cleaning the Outer Case

 DANGER

DO NOT remove outer case of this unit. Removing the
case creates a serious electrical shock hazard. All
disassembly and maintenance of this unit MUST be done
by a qualified technician.

 WARNING

Unplug unit before cleaning.

DO NOT submerge in water to clean. Clean outer case
with damp cloth.

Cleaning the Nebulizer

 WARNING

To prevent possible risk of infection due to
contamination, follow these instructions:

• Clean the nebulizer before initial operations.

• Clean the nebulizer after each aerosol treatment.

• ALWAYS use fresh cleaning solution.

• DO NOT towel dry the nebulizer components after

cleaning.

NOTE: Your physician and/or an Invacare dealer may specify
certain cleaning procedures. If so, follow their recommendations. If
not, clean according to the following instructions:

1. Remove the nebulizer and mouthpiece from the tubing.

2. Disassemble nebulizer chamber by turning
counterclockwise and separating.

3. Fill two plastic containers or bowls:

A. Washing: Hot water/detergent solution.

B. Soaking: Hot water/vinegar solution (one part vinegar

to three parts water).

4. Thoroughly clean the nebulizer and mouthpiece in hot
water/detergent solution.

5. Remove from the water/detergent solution and rinse with
clear hot tap water.

6. Soak in hot water/vinegar solution for 30 minutes.

7. Rinse with hot tap water again and air dry thoroughly.

NOTE: If using medical disinfectant cleaners, follow
manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

8. Keep the outer surface of the tubing dust-free by wiping
regularly.

NOTE: The nebulizer air tubing does not have to be washed
internally because only filtered air passes through the tubing

Changing the Nebulizer

The nebulizer is designed for single patient use.

The nebulizer must be replaced after a long period of
inactivity, or when it is obstructed by dry medication, dust,
etc. The reusable nebulizer should last from six months to one
year with general use. The disposable nebulizer should last 30
days.

Cleaning the Compressor

CAUTION

Unplug unit before cleaning.

NEVER submerge the nebulizer compressor in water or
the AC/DC adapter or auto adapter, hold under running
water or spray with water or other liquids. This will result
in compressor damage.

If fluid gets into the area around the compressor outlet,
wipe the area off with a dry cloth and let the nebulizer sit
on its front end for five minutes. Then run the compressor
for two minutes with no nebulizer or tubing adapter in
place.

 WARNING

DO NOT clean using abrasive cleaners.

1. Make sure the nebulizer is off and is not plugged into any
power source.

2. Clean the casing of the main unit daily by using a soft cloth
moistened with water or a mild detergent.

Cleaning the Mouthpiece

1. Boil the mouthpiece in water for a maximum of five
minutes or autoclave at a maximum of 121° C for ten
minutes.

2. Allow the mouthpiece to air dry.

3. Once dry, the mouthpiece may be stored inside the
nebulizer top.

DO NOT remove the compressor case. Failure to comply
could result in electrical shock. All disassembly must be
performed by an authorized Invacare service center.

 WARNING

All maintenance on your Invacare Stratos Portable
Nebulizer system must be performed by an authorized
Invacare service center. Maintenance manuals and parts
lists are available through Invacare upon request.

Routine Care

To keep your device in the best condition and protect the unit
from damage, follow these directions:

• DO NOT subject the device or the parts to any strong
shocks such as dropping the device on the floor.

• DO NOT store the device in extreme hot or cold
temperatures, high humidity or under direct sunlight.

Storage

1. Put the nebulizer and mouthpiece in the carrying case.

2. Coil the air tubing.

Filter Care

The accessible filter MUST be replaced after one month of use
or when it turns GREY. The filter should be replaced if the

Nebulizer overheats. The
nebulizer has an internal
thermal protector to pre-
vent the device from over-
heating. If the internal
temperature reaches the
preset level, the unit will
automatically shut down, and
the power LED will turn
RED.

Turn the unit OFF for a minimum of 40
minutes to allow the nebulizer to cool.

The nebulizer does not
operate.

Check all power sources to the nebulizer.
Push the ON/OFF button again.

Medication does not nebu-
lize properly.

Check for proper connection of the tubing
adapter.
Make sure the nebulizer is in an upright position
and not tilted beyond 30º.
Make sure the nebulizer is not empty.
Clean the nebulizer as described in the manual.

a. The device operating outside the conditions
outlined in this manual.
b. The device has been operating near heat
sources or in hot environments.
Allow the nebulizer to cool down for a mini-
mum of 40 minutes. Wait until the RED light
turns off before turning the nebulizer on again.

Optional battery is not
working optimally.

Battery was not properly conditioned (charged
for at least 16 hours before first use).
If it has been in use for approximately four
months, it may be time to recondition the bat-
tery.

Optional battery is not
charging.

Battery will not charge if connected to the nebu-
lizer.

PLEASE NOTE: THE WARRANTY BELOW HAS BEEN
DRAFTED TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL LAW APPLICABLE
TO PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED AFTER JULY 4, 1975.

This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser who
purchases this product when new and unused from Invacare
Corporation or a dealer. This warranty is not extended to any
other person or entity and is not transferable or assignable to
any subsequent purchaser or owner. Coverage under this
warranty will end upon any such subsequent sale or other
transfer of title to any other person. This warranty gives you
specific legal rights and you may also have other legal rights
which vary from state to state.

Invacare warrants this product when purchased new and unused
to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a
period of three years from date of purchase from Invacare or a
dealer, with a copy of the seller’s invoice required for coverage
under this warranty. If within such warranty period any such
product shall be proven to Invacare’s satisfaction to be defective,
such product shall be repaired or replaced, at Invacare’s option.
This warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear or failure
to adhere to the product instructions, nor does it include
shipping charges incurred in replacement part installation or
repair of any such product. Invacare’s sole obligation and your
exclusive remedy under this warranty shall be limited to such
repair and/or replacement.

will issue a serialized return authorization. It shall be the
responsibility of the purchaser to pack the product(s) or part(s)
in an appropriate manner to avoid shipping damage and return

Invacare’s plant or service center as specified by Invacare in
advance. The defective product(s) or component part(s) must
be returned for warranty inspection using the serial number as
identification within 30 days of the return authorization date.
DO NOT return any product(s) or part(s) to our factory or
service center without prior consent. C.O.D. shipments will be
refused – please pre-pay shipping charges.

El nebulizador portátil Stratos de Invacare ofrece la última

El nebulizador por compresor Stratos utiliza el aire
circundante para administrar la medicación prescripta a
través del equipo con eficacia. Tanto el usuario como la
persona que administre el tratamiento deben prestar especial
atención al entorno para evitar que ingrese aire contaminado
en el sistema nebulizador por compresor. (Por ejemplo, el aire
puede contaminarse con vapores expulsados por la pintura o
los productos de limpieza, venenos para malezas, escapes de
automóviles, etc.)

NO utilice el nebulizador por compresor Stratos en este tipo
de ambientes pues podrían provocarse lesiones graves al
paciente.

La unidad NO requiere lubricación.
El equipo NO es apto para uso en presencia de gases

anestésicos que puedan resultar inflamables en contacto con
el aire o con óxido nitroso.

NO active el compresor antes de retirarlo del estuche.
Puesto que algunos componentes del nebulizador son muy

pequeños y pueden ser ingeridos fácilmente, mantenga el
producto fuera del alcance de los niños mientras no se
administre tratamiento. La manguera puede producir
estrangulamiento.

9. Coloque el adaptador de la manguera en la salida del
compresor y rótelo en sentido contrario a las agujas del
reloj para afirmarlo en la posición correcta. A
continuación, inserte el conector de la manguera en la
parte inferior del nebulizador.

PRECAUCIÓN

Utilice únicamente el adaptador original de la manguera.
NO la presione ni enrosque.

10. En ambientes muy húmedos, el adaptador de la manguera
puede absorber la humedad y producir condensación.
Para eliminarla, inserte el adaptador en el compresor y
actívelo por 2 o 3 minutos, o bien déjelo colgado hasta que
seque.

11. Conecte la boquilla al nebulizador.

12. Si desea utilizar el producto con pilas, deberá cargarlas
durante 16 horas. Refer to Acondicionamiento on page 64.

13. Si desea utilizar el nebulizador con el cable de
alimentación, conéctelo a la salida ubicada en el lateral del
compresor. A continuación, conecte el cable de

Especificaciones

Para utilizar la pila optativa con el nebulizador portátil Stratos de
Invacare, es menester tomar algunas sencillas precauciones a fin
de garantizar su correcto funcionamiento y evitar daños al
nebulizador o la pila. Su uso correcto garantiza aproximadamente
35 minutos de funcionamiento, y puede variar de conformidad
con las condiciones de carga y el cuidado del usuario.

 ADVERTENCIA

Utilice únicamente las pilas originales suministradas por
Invacare. Siga atentamente las instrucciones de operación
de la unidad. Se considera que todo uso diferente del
especificado es inadecuado y, en consecuencia, riesgoso.
Invacare no se responsabilizará de ningún tipo de daño
provocado como consecuencia del uso inadecuado,
incorrecto o excesivo de la unidad.

PRECAUCIÓN

En caso de fallas o mal funcionamiento, apague la unidad y
lea el manual de operación. NO intente abrir el gabinete
plástico ni reemplazar ninguno de los componentes.

NO genere un cortocircuito con los polos de la pila. Evite
su contacto con llaves, monedas u otros objetos

La pila cuenta con protección contra recalentamiento y
no funciona a temperaturas superiores a 104º F (40º C).
Antes de reiniciar el equipo, deje enfriar la pila.

 ADVERTENCIA

Para recargar la pila, utilice sólo el cable de alimentación
(CA) o el cable adaptador para automóviles (CC) original. El
uso de otro tipo de equipos puede producir daños en la pila.

La carga requiere un mínimo de 16 horas. La vida útil de

Acondicionamiento

NOTE: Para acondicionar la pila, simplemente debe cargarla de

1. Desconecte la pila del compresor.

2. Conecte el cable de alimentación (CA) o el cable adaptador

La luz naranja indicará que la pila está cargándose de forma
adecuada. La carga completa de la pila dependerá de diversos
factores. La carga requiere un mínimo de 16 horas. La vida útil
de la pila puede verse reducida si la primera carga no se
realiza de forma apropiada. A fin de garantizar una máxima
vida útil, conecte la pila a una fuente de energía cuando no se
encuentre en uso.

El rendimiento de la pila dependerá de factores tales como las
condiciones de carga y el período de almacenamiento previo
a su uso, como así también la temperatura, la cantidad de
medicación utilizada en el tratamiento y la cantidad de ciclos
de carga y de descarga. El fabricante de la batería

recomienda que ésta se acondicione cada cuatro meses.

Uso

1. Alinee la base de goma del compresor con las muescas del
adaptador para pilas.

2. Sujete el adaptador y el compresor e inserte las dos
lengüetas en el lateral del adaptador.

3. Deslice suavemente el compresor y el adaptador en
direcciones opuestas para asegurarse de que las lengüetas
se encuentren correctamente ubicadas.

NOTE: La luz VERDE de la pila no se encenderá durante la carga
del nebulizador. Si la pila tiene poca energía, se encenderá una luz

ubicadas en el lateral del adaptador y separe ambas

Carga

La pila puede cargarse con el cable de alimentación (CA) o el
cable adaptador para automóviles (CC). Conecte el cable a la
fuente de energía apropiada. La luz naranja de la pila indicará
el inicio del ciclo de carga. La carga completa requiere al
menos 16 horas.

Siga las instrucciones de limpieza luego de cada uso para
evitar que, al secarse, los restos de medicamentos afecten la
eficacia de la nebulización.

Una vez finalizado el último tratamiento del día, se
recomienda lavar el nebulizador descartable y la boquilla con
un detergente suave y enjuagarlos minuciosamente.
Asimismo, desinfecte diariamente estas piezas con una
solución de agua y vinagre o un desinfectante de venta
comercial. Si su médico o terapeuta respiratorio indican un
procedimiento de limpieza diferente, siga sus instrucciones.

Limpieza del nebulizador

 ADVERTENCIA

A fin de evitar riesgos de infección por contaminación,

• Limpie el nebulizador antes de utilizarlo por primera

vez.

• Limpie el nebulizador luego de cada tratamiento.

• Utilice SIEMPRE una solución de limpieza preparada

recientemente.

• NO utilice un paño para secar los componentes del

nebulizador.

NOTE: Si su médico y / o el distribuidor de los productos Invacare
le indican un procedimiento de limpieza específico, siga sus
recomendaciones. De lo contrario, siga las instrucciones que se
mencionan a continuación:

1. Retire el nebulizador y la boquilla de la manguera.

2. Abra la cámara del nebulizador realizando un giro en
sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj.

3. Prepare dos tazones o recipientes plásticos para realizar
las siguientes operaciones:

A. Lavado: utilice una solución de agua caliente y

detergente.

B. Enjuague: utilice una solución de agua caliente y

vinagre (una parte de vinagre por cada tres partes de
agua).

4. Lave minuciosamente el nebulizador y la boquilla en la
solución de agua y detergente.

5. Retire las piezas de la solución y enjuáguelas con agua
potable caliente.

6. Sumerja las piezas en la solución de agua caliente y
vinagre durante 30 minutos.

7. Enjuáguelas nuevamente con agua potable caliente y
déjelas secar.

NOTE: Si utiliza un desinfectante medicinal, siga detenidamente
las instrucciones del fabricante.

8. Utilice un paño seco para limpiar regularmente la
superficie exterior de la manguera y mantenerla libre de
polvo.

NOTE: Puesto que sólo lo atraviesa aire filtrado, el interior de la
manguera no requiere ningún tipo de limpieza.

Cambio de nebulizador

El nebulizador debe ser utilizado por un único paciente.

El nebulizador debe reemplazarse luego de largos períodos
de inactividad o en caso de obstruirse con medicación seca,
polvo u otros elementos. Si se lo somete a un uso normal, el
nebulizador reutilizable tiene una vida útil de seis meses a un
año. El nebulizador descartable tiene una vida útil de 30 días.

Limpieza del compresor

PRECAUCIÓN

Desenchufe la unidad antes de proceder a su limpieza.

A fin de evitar daños en el compresor, el adaptador de
CA/CC y el adaptador para automóviles, NO los coloque
bajo el agua corriente ni los rocíe con agua u otros
líquidos.

De ingresar líquido en el área que rodea la salida del
compresor, limpie con un paño seco y coloque el
nebulizador sobre su extremo delantero durante cinco
minutos. A continuación, active el compresor durante dos
minutos sin conectarlo al nebulizador ni al adaptador de
la manguera.

 ADVERTENCIA

NO utilice limpiadores abrasivos.

1. Cerciórese de que el nebulizador se encuentre apagado y

1. Hierva la boquilla en agua durante un máximo de cinco
minutos o esterilice con un autoclave a un máximo de 121°
C durante diez minutos.

2. Deje secar la boquilla.

Cuidados de rutina

caídas.

Utilice únicamente los filtros incluidos en el dispositivo
nebulizador portátil Stratos de Invacare.

No utilice algodón u otros materiales.
NO lave ni limpie el filtro.
Utilice únicamente filtros Invacare.
NUNCA accione el dispositivo si no cuenta con un filtro

INTRODUCTION

Votre nébuliseur portable Stratos d’Invacare constitue la
dernière technologie en matière de nébuliseur portable à
compresseur. Le but du nébuliseur est de transformer votre
médicament liquide en une fine brume qui peut être aspirée
par vos poumons afin de soulager votre maladie respiratoire.
Le nébuliseur est très maniable et léger. Pour plus de
commodité, demandez à votre revendeur le bloc batterie en
option qui est vendu séparément.

Pour optimiser les bienfaits procurés par votre nébuliseur,
nous vous recommandons de lire et de comprendre les

Compresseur

Si l’unité s’arrête fréquemment ou ne démarre pas, il est
possible qu’il y ait un problème de basse tension.

On peut aussi suspecter une basse tension lorsque :

• Le compresseur ne démarre pas ou le moteur n’atteint pas
la pleine puissance ou vitesse.

• D’autres appareils électriques fonctionnent mal ou il y a
trop d’appareils électriques branchés sur le même circuit.

Rallonges

Vérifier que la rallonge est en bon état. Vérifier que le fil de la
rallonge possède un calibre d’AU MOINS 18 pour une
longueur de 25 pieds.

Instructions pour l’expédition

Le contenant d’expédition a été conçu pour assurer
la protection de cet appareil.

Si cet appareil doit être réexpédié par un transporteur
courant, il doit être emballé dans le même carton.

Déballage

1. Rechercher tout dommage visible du carton ou de son
contenu. En cas de dommage visible, NE PAS utiliser.
Informer le transporteur, Invacare ou le revendeur
Invacare local.

2. Retirer du carton tous les matériaux d’emballage.

3. Retirer minutieusement tous les composants du carton.

NOTE: Conserver le carton et les matériaux d’emballage pour
expédier l’unité ou la stocker jusqu’au moment de son utilisation.

Inspection

1. Examiner l’extérieur pour rechercher des ébréchures,
entailles, éraflures ou autres dommages. Inspecter tous les
composants.

NE JAMAIS mettre en marche cet appareil avec un fil ou une
prise endommagés, s’il ne fonctionne pas correctement ou s’il
est tombé ou endommagé ou s’il a été plongé dans l’eau.
Contacter le personnel de maintenance qualifié pour
vérification et réparation.

Tenez les tuyaux du nébuliseur, son câble électrique et l'unité
elle-même loin des surfaces chaudes comme les radiateurs, les
couvertures électriques, les fours ou autres appareils
électriques de ce genre.

NE JAMAIS laisser tomber ou insérer d’objet dans l’une des
ouvertures ou tubulures.

NE JAMAIS utiliser pendant le sommeil ou en état de
somnolence.

NE JAMAIS obstruer les ouvertures d’aérations de cet
appareil ou le poser sur une surface molle, telle qu’un lit ou un
canapé, susceptible d’obstruer les ouvertures d’aération.
Garder les ouvertures d’aération exemptes de peluche,
cheveux ou autres éléments similaires. L’obstruction des
ouvertures d’aération peut entraîner un arrêt de l’unité.

Le système de nébuliseur à compresseur Stratos utilise l'air
environnant pour administrer efficacement le médicament
prescrit à travers le nébuliseur. L'utilisateur et
l'administrateur doivent prendre connaissance du milieu
environnant afin de s'assurer qu'il n'y a pas d'air contaminé
filtré à travers le système de nébuliseur à compresseur. (Par
exemple, de l'air contaminé par des vapeurs de peinture ou de
produit nettoyant, de l'herbicide, des gaz d'échappement de
voiture, etc.)

NE PAS utiliser le système de nébuliseur à compresseur
Stratos dans de tels environnements, sans quoi des blessures
corporelles graves peuvent se produire.

Cette unité ne contient pas d’huile. NE PAS lubrifier.
L’utilisation de cet équipement n’est PAS appropriée en

présence d’un mélange anesthésique inflammable avec de
l’air ou du protoxyde d’azote.

NE PAS mettre en marche le compresseur lorsqu’il est encore
dans son coffret de transport.

La tubulure peut présenter un risque de strangulation.

NE JAMAIS toucher l’unité avec les mains mouillées.
NE PAS tirer sur le cordon d’alimentation pour débrancher

l’unité de la prise électrique.
NE PAS surcharger les prises murales.
L’entretien de la pompe DOIT être effectué par un technicien

de maintenance qualifié.

Retirer le compresseur de son coffret de transport avant
usage.

NE PAS utiliser sans filtre.
Éviter d’utiliser cet appareil dans un environnement

poussiéreux, sans quoi une usure prématurée du
compresseur pourrait être observée.

Fonctionnement

NOTE: Pour cette procédure, se référer à la FIGURE 2.1 page 98.

1. Se laver les mains avant de commencer la procédure de
traitement.

2. Placer l’appareil sur une table de façon à pouvoir atteindre
les commandes en position assise.

3. S’assurer que le nébuliseur est solidement fixé sur son
support.

4. Retirer le nébuliseur du compresseur en tirant vers le haut.

5. Ouvrir le nébuliseur en tirant sur le couvercle tout en
maintenant bien le bas.

6. S’assurer que le cône est correctement placé dans le
gobelet.

 MISE EN GARDE

NE PAS dépasser la quantité maximale autorisée de
six mL de médicament. La capacité maximale du gobelet
du nébuliseur est de 6 mL de médicament.

ATTENTION

NE JAMAIS verser le médicament dans la surface de
fixation du nébuliseur pour le compresseur. Cela
endommagerait le compresseur.

7. Ajouter la quantité
prescrite de médicament
dans le gobelet du
nébuliseur à l’aide d’un
compte-goutte, d’une
dose prémesurée ou
d’une ampoule (FIGURE

2.1).

8. Fermer le nébuliseur en appuyant fermement le couvercle
sur le gobelet jusqu’à obtention d’un clic.

9. Mettre l’adaptateur de tubulure dans la prise du
compresseur et tourner dans le sens contraire des aiguilles
d’une montre pour bloquer l’adaptateur en position. Puis
insérer fermement le connecteur de tubulure dans le bas
du nébuliseur.

ATTENTION

Utiliser uniquement l’adaptateur de tubulure d’origine.
NE PAS écraser ni plier la tubulure.

10. Dans des conditions de forte humidité, il peut se produire
de l’humidité ou de la condensation dans l’adaptateur de
tubulure. Si cela se produit, il suffit d’allumer le
compresseur avec l’adaptateur de tubulure attaché et de
laisser tourner pendant 2 – 3 minutes ou de suspendre
l’adaptateur de tubulure afin que l’humidité s’égoutte.

11. Raccorder l’embout buccal sur le nébuliseur.

NE PAS utiliser l’embout buccal du nébuliseur, le
compresseur ou la tubulure avec d'autres compresseurs,
embouts buccaux de nébuliseur ou tubulures, car cela
peut nuire au débit, entraînant un traitement inadapté.

12. Pour utiliser avec la batterie, mettre celle-ci en charge
pendant 16 heures. Refer to Conditionnement de la
batterie on page 105.

13. Pour utiliser le nébuliseur avec le cordon d’alimentation,
brancher le cordon d’alimentation dans la prise
d’alimentation située sur le côté du compresseur. Brancher
le cordon d’alimentation sur l’adaptateur et insérer la fiche
dans la prise électrique.

14. Pour utiliser le nébuliseur avec l’adaptateur c.c. pour auto,
raccorder l’adaptateur c.c. à la prise d’alimentation située
sur le côté du compresseur. Raccorder la fiche de
l’adaptateur auto du cordon c.c. à la prise de l’adaptateur
auto.

 DANGER

Pour éviter le risque de choc électrique éventuel, le
nébuliseur doit être mis en marche sur la source
d’alimentation indiquée.
