DPS-6.9 HDMI Setup Guide
With HDMI you can...
• Easily connect video, audio, and control signals with just one HDMI cable.
• Enjoy high-definition video (1080p/1080i/720p).
• Output 480i/576i video as it is for processing by an AV receiver or TV with advanced scaling built in.
• Enjoy 5.1-channel Dolby Digital and DTS digital surround sound, and multichannel linear PCM (DVD-Audio) and DSD (SACD).
• Use RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI).

Connecting Directly to a TV

Connecting to an AV Receiver

Video and audio are sent to the TV via the HDMI cable. Video and audio are sent via the HDMI cables. You can
enjoy better sound by using an AV receiver.

When the DPS-6.9 is outputting a signal from its HDMI OUT, the DPS-6.9’s HDMI indicator lights up. If the indicator does not light up, the HDMI con­nections are not correct, or a connected HDMI com­ponent is not turned on. The HDMI indicator flashes while the DPS-6.9 verifies a connected HDMI com­ponent.
The connection method shown here can be used when the AV receiver’s HDMI input supports DSD and multi­channel linear PCM over HDMI. If your AV receiver supports only CD and DVD-Video playback over HDMI, you’ll need to use “Connection method 2” on page 21 of the DPS-6.9 Instruction Manual. Refer to the Instruc­tion Manual for more details.

If There’s No Picture via HDMI...

By default, the HDMI Resolution is set to Auto so that video is automatically output at a resolution that suits the connected HDMI component. However, if there’s no picture, try pressing the [Resolution] button on the DPS-6.9 or its remote controller.
The HDMI resolution can also be set by using the onscreen setup menus, which can be displayed by pressing the [Setup] button. See pages 46 and 50 of the DPS-6.9 Instruc­tion Manual for details.

If There’s No Sound via HDMI...

By default, the HDMI Audio Out setting is set to Auto so that audio is automatically output in a format that suits the con­nected HDMI component. However, if there’s no sound, you will need to change the HDMI Audio Out setting. See pages 24–26 or page 51 of the DPS-6.9 Instruction Manual for details.

Using RIHD

To use RIHD, make sure CEC is enabled on your other CEC-compatible AV components (e.g., TV or AV receiver). On the DPS-6.9, make sure the HDMI Control, Power Control, and Direct Change settings are all set to On.
About RIHD-compatible Components
The TVs listed below (in no particular order) are compatible with RIHD.
•Panasonic TVs that support VIERA LINK
•Toshiba TVs that support REGZA-LINK Components other than those listed here may also provide linked operation if they support the CEC part of the HDMI stan­dard, however, operation cannot be guaranteed.

Displaying Message IDs when Troubleshooting HDMI Issues

You can check the status of the HDMI connection by pressing and holding down the DPS-6.9’s [Display] button for 10 seconds until a message ID appears on the display. Look up the message ID in the following tables and check the HDMI connections and settings on both the DPS-6.9 and the connected component. The page numbers in parentheses refer to the DPS-6.9 Instruction Manual.

Tu rn the DPS-6.9 and the connected component off, then turn them on again. Make sure that the connected component is working properly and that the DPS-6.9’s HDMI settings are configured suitably for that compo­nent.
The HDMI cable may not be connected properly. Check the connection. Also, make sure the HDMI input on the TV or AV receiver is correctly configured to received HDMI.
Make sure the HDMI input on the TV or AV receiver is correctly configured to received HDMI. The connected component may not support HDCP. Make sure the connected component supports HDCP. Tu rn the DPS-6.9 and the connected component off, then turn them on again. The DPS-6.9 may be connected to the other component’s DVI jack. Some TVs may not properly receive the video output by the DPS-6.9. Also, with a DVI connection, there will be no sound.
The DPS-6.9’s HD Resolution setting is set to these resolutions, select another resolution (page 46).
The connected component may not be receiving the HDMI signal properly. Check the settings on the connected component.

The DPS-6.9’s HDMI Audio Out setting is set to Off. Change the setting to Auto, 6ch DSD, 6ch PCM, or 2ch PCM (page 51).
The connected component may not support Dolby Digital. Set the DPS-6.9’s HDMI Audio Out setting to Auto or 2ch PCM (page 51).
The connected component may not support DTS. Set the DPS-6.9’s HDMI Audio Out setting to Auto or 2ch PCM (page 51).
When playing an SACD or DVD-Audio disc, the HDMI Audio Out setting is set to 6ch DSD, 6ch PCM, or Off, but your AV receiver or TV does not support these audio formats. Change the setting to Auto or 2ch PCM.
