Temperature indicator

Thermostat requires adjustment
To assist you in controlling your appliance correctly we have fitted a temperature indicator to your refrigerator, placed in the coldest area.
The coldest area of the refrigerator compartment is at the level of the lower glass shelf.
The symbol (see graphic) shows the location of the coldest area of your refrigerator.
The space directly above the glass shelf of the fruit and vegetable drawer is the coldest region of the refrigerator compartment as shown by the shelf or the sticker on the wall of your appliance.
For proper storage of the food in your refrigerator and particularly in the coldest area, ensure that the temperature indicator is displaying “OK”.
If “OK” is not displayed, the average temperature in the area is too high. Adjust the temperature controller to a colder setting. Since the “OK” display is in black, it is difficult to see if the temperature indicator is poorly illuminated. Correct illumination makes it easy to read.
Each time the temperature controller is adjusted, wait for the temperature inside
Correct temperature
the appliance to stabilise before checking whether another adjustment is required. Only adjust the controller gradually and wait at least 12 hours before checking and perhaps adjusting it again.
Caution! After putting fresh food into the appliance or after opening the door repeatedly or for a long period, it is normal for the indicator not to show “OK”; wait at least 12 hours before readjusting the temperature controller.
If the evaporator of the refrigeration compartment (wall at the bottom of the appliance) has an abnormal covering of ice (appliance too full, high ambient temperature, thermostat too high, frequent door opening), gradually move the thermostat control to a lower setting until there are once more periods when the compressor stops. The automatic defrosting of the refrigerator compartment will not work correctly unless the compressor stops from time to time.

Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the safety glass shelves can be positioned as desired.
ENGLISH
11
Caution! Do not move the glass
shelf above the vegetable drawer to ensure correct air circulation.

Bottle rack

Place the bottles (with the opening facing front) in the pre-positioned shelf.
If the shelf is positioned horizontally, place only closed bottles.

Positioning the door balconies

To permit storage of food packages of various sizes, the door balconies can be placed at different heights.
To make these adjustments proceed as follows: gradually pull upwards the balcony until it comes free, then reposition as desired.

Vegetable Drawers

This bottle holder shelf can be tilted in order to store previously opened bottles. To obtain this result, pull the shelf up so it can rotate upwards and be placed on the next higher level.
Fruit and vegetables should be placed in these drawers (see the picture).

Freezing fresh food

The freezer compartment is suitable for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for a long time.
To freeze fresh foods it is not necessary to change the medium setting.
However, for a faster freezing operation, turn the temperature regulator toward higher settings to obtain the maximum coldness.

ENGLISH 12
Caution! In this condition, the
refrigerator compartment temperature might drop below 0°C. If this occurs reset the temperature regulator to a warmer setting.

Freezing Calendar

The symbols show different types of frozen goods.
The numbers indicate storage times in months for the appropriate types of frozen goods. Whether the upper or lower value of the indicated storage time is valid depends on the quality of the foods and treating before freezing.

Storage of frozen food

When first starting-up or after a period out of use, before putting the products in the compartment let the appliance run at least 2 hours on the higher settings.
Caution! In the event of accidental defrosting, for example due to a power failure, if the power has been off for longer than the value shown in the technical characteristics chart under "rising time", the defrosted food must be consumed quickly or cooked immediately and then re-frozen (after cooling).

Thawing

Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature, depending on the time available for this operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.

Ice-cube production

This appliance is equipped with one tray for the production of ice-cubes.
1. Fill the tray with water.
2. Put the tray in the freezer compartment
Caution! Do not use metallic instruments to remove the tray from the freezer.

Hints and tips

Normal operating sounds

The following sounds are normal during operation:
• A faint gurgling and bubbling sound from coils sound when refrigerant is pumped.
• A whirring and pulsating sound from the compressor when refrigerant is pumped.
• A sudden cracking noise from inside appliance caused by thermic dilatation (a natural and not dangerous physical phenomenon).
ENGLISH
13
• A faint click noise from the temperature regulator when the compressor switches on or off.

Hints for energy saving

• Do not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely necessary.
• If the ambient temperature is high and the Temperature Regulator is set to low temperature and the appliance is fully loaded, the compressor may run continuously, causing frost or ice on the evaporator. If this happens, set the Temperature Regulator toward warmer settings to allow automatic defrosting and so a saving in electricity consumption.

Hints for fresh food refrigeration

To obtain the best performance:
• do not store warm food or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator
• do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a strong flavour
• position food so that air can circulate freely around it

Hints for refrigeration

Useful hints:
• Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bags and place on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer.
• For safety, store in this way only one or two days at the most.
• Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc..: these should be covered and may be placed on any shelf.
• Fruit and vegetables: these should be thoroughly cleaned and placed in the special drawer(s) provided.
• Butter and cheese: these should be placed in special airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.
• Bottles: these need a cap and should be stored on the door bottle shelf, or (if equipped) on the bottle rack.
• Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if not packed, must not be kept in the refrigerator.

Hints for freezing

To help you make the most of the freezing process, here are some important hints:
• the maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in 24 hrs. is shown on the rating plate;
• the freezing process takes 24 hours. No further food to be frozen should be added during this period;
• freeze only top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned, foodstuffs;
• prepare food in small portions to enable it to be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity required;
• wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and make sure that the packages are airtight;
• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature of the latter;
• lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones; salt reduces the storage life of food;
• water ices, if consumed immediately after removal from the freezer compartment, can possibly cause the skin to be freeze burnt;
• it is advisable to show the freezing in date on each individual pack to enable you to keep tab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen food

To obtain the best performance from this appliance, you should:
• make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately stored by the retailer;
ENGLISH
14
• be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time;
• not open the door frequently or leave it open longer than absolutely necessary;

Care and cleaning

Warning! Refer to Safety
chapters.

General warnings

Caution! Unplug the appliance
before carrying out any maintenance operation.
This appliance contains hydrocarbons in its cooling unit; maintenance and recharging must therefore only be carried out by authorized technicians.
The accessories and parts of the appliance are not suitable for washing in a dishwasher.

Periodic cleaning

Caution! Do not pull, move or
damage any pipes and/or cables inside the cabinet.
Caution! Take care of not to damage the cooling system.
Caution! When moving the cabinet, lift it by the front edge to avoid scratching the floor.
• once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly and cannot be refrozen;
• do not exceed the storage period indicated by the food manufacturer.
The equipment has to be cleaned regularly:
1. Clean the inside and accessories with
lukewarm water and some neutral soap.
2. Regularly check the door seals and wipe
clean to ensure they are clean and free from debris.
3. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Defrost the freezer when the frost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5 mm.
To remove the frost, do these steps:
1. Switch off the appliance.
2. Remove any stored food, wrap it in
several layers of newspaper and put it in a cool place.
3. Leave the door open.
4. When defrosting is completed, dry the
interior thoroughly and refit the plug.
5. Switch on the appliance.
6. Set the temperature regulator to obtain
the maximum coldness and run the
ENGLISH 15
appliance for two or three hours using this setting.
7. Reload the previously removed food into the compartment.
Warning! Never use sharp metal tools to scrape off frost from the evaporator as you could damage it. Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing process other than those recommended by the manufacturer. A temperature rise of the frozen food packs, during defrosting, may shorten their safe storage life.

Defrosting of the refrigerator

every time the motor compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost water drains out through a trough into a special container at the back of the appliance, over the motor compressor, where it evaporates.
It is important to periodically clean the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the refrigerator compartment channel to prevent the water overflowing and dripping onto the food inside. Use the special cleaner provided, which you will find already inserted into the drain hole.

Periods of non-operation

When the appliance is not in use for long periods, take the following precautions:
1. Disconnect the appliance from electricity supply.
2. Remove all food.
3. Leave the door/doors open to prevent unpleasant smells.
Warning! If the cabinet will be kept on, ask somebody to check it once in a while to prevent the food inside from spoiling in case of a power failure.
Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment

Betrieb

Einschalten des Geräts

1. Stecken Sie den Stecker in die Netzsteckdose.
