Front Panel Components
1. Charge/Notification LED indicator:
LED off = not charging or no notifications
Amber flash = charging
Green flash = one or more notification events
have occurred
Amber solid = charging complete
2. Wireless LED indicator:
LED off = Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are off
Blue solid = Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi are on
3. Image Capture Button*: Short press launches
HP Photosmart Camera, then another press
captures a picture. A long press and hold
launches voice recorder
4. iPAQ Mobile Media Button: Opens iPAQ
Mobile Media that allows you to listen to
music and view photos and videos
5. HP Image Zone Button: Opens HP Image
Zone that allows you to view, edit and
print images
6. 5-Way Navigation Touch Pad: Controls
special functions for various applications
7. Nevo Universal Remote Button: Opens
Remote Control that controls home
entertainment devices
8. iTask Button: Provides single-button
access to open applications and settings
9. QVGA Color Display: High contrast

1. Reset Button: Push the stylus into this hole for
a soft reset, which restarts your HP iPAQ
without erasing any data
2. Universal Connector: Connects to HP iPAQ
cradle, AC adapter and USB synchronization

USB Synchronization Cable (rx3100
and rx3400)
Connects the HP iPAQ to a PC for charging
and/or synchronizing. When the HP iPAQ is
not in use, the cable is used to maintain a
charged battery

Do not connect the HP desktop cradle or USB
synchronization cable to your PC until the Setup
Wizard on the Companion CD instructs you to do so.

View On-screen Device Demo
The demo shows the features of your new HP iPAQ. It only runs once, but
you can replay it from the Programs folder. Click the at the bottom of the
screen to skip the demo.

Establish a partnership
Follow the ActiveSync instructions on your computer to establish a connection
between your HP iPAQ and computer.

Install the battery

HP iPAQ to charge it.
NOTE: It takes about 4 hours to fully
charge the unit.

Insert Companion CD into your computer
Insert the Companion CD into your computer and click Start Here.
Follow the on-screen instructions. The Setup Wizard installs:
• Microsoft Outlook
• ActiveSync 3.7 (or greater)
• Various other software applications
If you want to skip the introduction demo on your Companion CD, click
Skip Introduction.
Connect the HP iPAQ to your computer when
instructed by the Setup Wizard on the Companion CD

Connect the end of the USB connector to the USB
Use ActiveSync to synchronize your calendar, tasks, contacts, e-mail messages,
and Web favorites between the HP iPAQ and your computer.
To view Help Topics, open ActiveSync and click Help.
Launch page
When you turn on your HP iPAQ for the first time each day (or after 4 hours of inactivity),
you see the launch page. You also can display it by tapping and then Today.

NOTE: Plugging in the AC adapter turns on the
HP iPAQ. If the unit does not turn on, lightly

When the HP iPAQ screen displays, tap the screen, then follow on-screen
instructions until setup is complete.

b) rx3100 and rx3400 series: Connect one end of the USB
sync cable to your computer and the other end to the HP iPAQ. Connect the
AC adapter to the USB sync cable to continue charging it.
