1 Introduction
The HP Windows Solution Release 6.1 is a tested set of HP manageability software, I/O card
drivers and firmware, the Windows Server operating system, and Microsoft QFEs. This set has
been tested with each HP Integrity platform supported in this release. Release 6.1 supports both
Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.
This release contains the following components:
•Smart Setup CD
•Smart Update DVD
•Reinstall Image DVD (if the operating system is purchased from HP)
The HP Windows Solution is updated periodically and is available on the web at the following
location:
Smart Setup CD
The Smart Setup CD contains essential software every customer needs to install, configure, and
manage Integrity servers with Windows. It has major components:
Enables easy server and array controller configuration prior to the installation of the operating
system.
•HP Smart Update Manager (HPSUM)
Enables you to deploy software components from a single, easy to use interface. The Smart
Components included are the latest tested and compatible HP drivers, firmware, utilities,
System Management Homepage (SMH), Insight Management agents, and Version Control
agents that assist both in the server deployment process by preparing the server for
installation of the Windows Server operating systems and in the ongoing management of
the server.
The Smart Components are bundled together in the Support Pack. HP recommends that
you install the entire Support Pack because the software set has been tested together. The
Support Pack and Smart Components are updated periodically and are available on the web
at the following location:
HP Integrity Essentials
After you receive the Smart Setup CD, insert it into a CD drive to access the contents. To install
the Windows Server software, boot from the CD. For information on the installation process, see
the Installation Guide for Windows Server 2003 and Installation Guide for Windows Server 2008 located
on the HP Smart Setup CD.
Smart Update DVD
The Smart Update DVD contains security fixes and critical updates to the operating system from
Microsoft. This CD provides a convenient interface for installing all the QFEs (hotfixes) needed
to keep your HP Integrity server up to date and secure.
Reinstall Image DVD
When you purchase an Integrity server with a Windows Server operating system from HP, the
system image is preloaded on the server. A Reinstall Image DVD is also included in case you
need to reinstall the Windows Server operating system.
Smart Setup CD7
NOTE:For Integrity servers that come with the Windows Server operating system preloaded,
you are prompted to update the Support Pack from the Smart Setup CD to get the latest versions
of the Smart Components. HP recommends that you update the Support Pack.
Windows Solution Documentation
The documentation for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 for HP Integrity
servers is comprehensive and varied. It is delivered on the web at http://docs.hp.com. A subset
of that documentation is delivered on the Smart Setup CD.
This section describes the documentation organization on docs.hp.com, describes recommended
reading paths, and lists the documents available on the Smart Setup CD.

Navigating the documentation
This section provides you with reading paths based on questions that you might ask as you plan
your installation and deployment in your environment. The planning steps are as follows:
1.Determine which Integrity systems are supported in this release and which hardware cards
are supported on each system.
2.Verify that the correct hardware cards are installed.
3.Install the software.
4.Perform optional administrative tasks.
5.Troubleshoot any problems.
Determining system and hardware support
To determine system hardware and hardware I/O card support in this release, see the following
documents:
•Release Notes
•Installation Guide for Windows Server 2003 (formerly the Smart Setup Guide)
•Installation Guide for Windows Server 2008
Verifying hardware card installation
After you determine which hardware I/O cards are supported on your system, verify that they
are installed. If they are installed, go to “Installing the software” (page 10). If they are not installed,
this section shows the appropriate documentation for installing network, SCSI, RAID SmartArray,
and Fibre Channel HBA components.

Performing administrative tasks
After installing the Integrity Support Pack and HP Integrity Management Agents, you can perform
the following additional tasks:
•Add and remove PCI cards (hot-plug operations) on HP Integrity servers.
•Use the management processor (MP)
•Use the Special Administration Console (SAC)
•Manage software and firmware component versions
•Manage your systems using HP System Management Homepage (SMH)
•Update your system software using HP Smart Update Manager (HPSUM)
•Configure any network adapters
Adding and removing PCI cards
For information on adding and removing PCI cards to and from your Integrity server, see the
Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 Administration Guide.
Using the Management Processor (MP)
The Management Processor (MP) provides access to the Special Administration Console (SAC)
console or the EFI Shell and enables you to configure a machine before installing the operating
system and to access the MP using the IP address specific to the MP. For information on using
the MP, see the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 Administration Guide.
Using the Special Administration Console (SAC)
Special Administration Console (SAC) is the primary Emergency Management Services
command-line environment hosted by Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. It is
separate from the command-line environment and provides different functionality. For
information on using the SAC, see the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 AdministrationGuide.
Managing software and firmware versions
To enable you to better manage your server, HP provides the HP Version Control Repository
Manager (VCRM) and HP Version Control Agent (VCA).
The VCRM stores the software and firmware components that support Integrity servers on
Windows platforms. You can use the VCRM to define software baselines and to automate the
installation and change management of HP software and firmware updates to production system.
The VCA is an Insight Management Agent installed on a server. The VCA enables you to view
the HP software and firmware that is installed on that server. The VCA provides version control
and system update capabilities for a single HP server.
For additional information about version control and its components, see the following documents:
•Version Control Release Notes
•Version Control Installation Guide
•Version Control Agent online help
Using System Management Homepage
HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH) is a web-based interface that consolidates and
simplifies single system management for HP servers on HP-UX, Linux, and Microsoft Windows
operating systems. You typically install HP SMH and management agents when you install
Windows Solution Documentation11
Windows Server from the Smart Setup CD. For additional information about HP SMH, see the
following documents:
•System Management Homepage Release Notes
•System Management Homepage Installation Guide
•System Management Homepage User Guide
For information about the management agents, see the Installation Guide for Windows Server 2003
or Installation Guide for Windows Server 2008 and the HP SMH online help.
Using HP Smart Update Manager
The HP Smart Update Manager (HPSUM) utility enables you to deploy Integrity Support Pack
(ISP) software components from a single, easy-to-use interface. The utility also provides installation
logic and version control that automatically check for dependencies, installing only the correct
updates for optimal configuration. For additional information about HPSUM, see the HP SmartUpdate Manager (HPSUM) User Guide and online help.
Configuring network adapters
The HP Network Configuration Utility (NCU) enables configuration of network adapters and
teams of network adapters installed on an HP Integrity server. To better support server
management, the NCU has been enhanced using the Replicate Agent Settings tool of HP Systems
Insight Manager (HP SIM). For information on configuring network adapters, see the NetworkingUtilities User Guide.
