This software is used for collecting the data from the Navigational Echo Sounder FE-800 and
FE-700. The software is capable of storing and outputting dual frequency data, and when connected to a FE-800 unit the software can also store and output echograms.
The interconnection between the software installation PC and the FE-700/FE-800 is shown in the
figure below.

1.INSTALLATION
1.1 How to Install the Program
System requirements
This software runs under Windows 7® and Windows 8®.
A minimum of 1GB RAM is recommended.
Procedure
1. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the DATA RECORDING SOFTWARE FOR PC into your
CD/DVD drive.
2. Double click the CD-ROM drive icon to view the files on the CD-ROM.
3. Double click the DATA RECORDING SOFTWARE FOR PC icon to start the installer.
Follow the instructions on the screen to install the software.
Once the installation is complete, store the CD-ROM in a safe place.
1.2 How to Start the Program
1. Click the Windows icon button at the bottom left of the screen to open the START menu.
2. Move the mouse pointer to the PROGRAMS option in the START menu to open the
PROGRAMS menu.
3. Move the mouse pointer to FURUNO, then click the FE-800 DATA RECORDING SYSTEM
icon to open the application.
The software will display the following screen for three seconds after startup.

1.3 How to set Serial and LAN ports
To connect your PC with the software installed, you must set the port
(LAN or serial) to which the equipment is connected.
Select [Option] from the menu bar, then click [Use port] to open the
pop-up window shown right.

2. From the Serial Port drop-down box, select the serial port on the PC
to which the equipment is connected.
3. Click OK.
Lan Ports
1. Click the LAN radio box to activate the IP Address and Port No. fields.
2. Enter the IP address and port number as shown below:

3. Set the PC IP address to 172.31.15.1.
NOTE: If the network connection cannot be made using the above IP address and port settings, check
the FE-800 Installer Manual and confirm the IP addresses.

2.HOW TO USE THE SOFTWARE
NOTE: Opening the system menu screen during the download will cancel any download in progress.
2.1 Downloading Real-time Data
To download real-time data (data recorded at one second intervals) from the FE-700 or FE-800,
press the Start utility button on the toolbar. You may also select [Start] from the [Download]
menu on the menu bar, or press F9 on your keyboard. The downloaded data is displayed in one
second intervals in the log (LOG mode), in a graph (GRAPH mode) or as echoes (ECHO mode).
See the examples below for reference.
Data is saved in the following location: “C:\Users\Public\FURUNO\FE800”.
NOTE: Echo mode is only available on the FE-800 via LAN connection.

How to change modes
To change modes, press the , or display mode button as appropriate.
You can also change modes from the [MODE] menu on the menu bar, or press the F7 key to
switch to LOG DATA mode, or press the F8 key to switch to GRAPH mode. There is no shortcut
key for ECHO mode.

How to inscribe lines
To inscribe a line at points of interest in the readings, click the MARK utility button . You can
also inscribe a line from the [Option] menu by selecting [Mark], or press the F1 key.
How to stop the download
To stop the download at any time, press the Stop utility button . You can also stop the download
from the [Download] menu by selecting [Stop], or pressing the F10 key.

2.2 How to Download RAM Data
Data accumulated in the RAM of the FE-700 or FE-800 can be downloaded in two methods:
• One hour of data, in one second intervals
• 24 hours of data, in five second intervals
To download the data stored in the RAM, do the following:
1. Click [Download] on the menu bar.
2. Move the cursor over [Loading Option] in the [Download] drop-down menu.
3. Select [1h Data] or [24h Data] as appropriate. A download dialog box similar to the one shown
below appears.
The download can be stopped at any time by clicking the [Cancel] button on the download
dialog box.
Downloaded data will be saved in one of two file formats, as shown below.

In the above examples “20131220” is the date on which the data was downloaded, “1h” is the
method in which the data was downloaded. The date is shown in the following format:
“year(4digits), month(2digits), day(2digits)”
NOTE: The data which is downloaded via Serial connection or LAN connection is different. See the
table below for details.

2.3 Setting Options
To access and set options, select [Option] on the menu bar, then click [Option] in the drop-down
menu. The [Option] window has two tabs, [File] and [Graphic].
To adjust settings as required, click the radio button or the up/down arrow button as appropriate.

2.4 How to Open Files
There are two methods for opening files: Using the [Open...] option from the [File] menu, or using
the [Time Selection] option in the [File] menu.
Using the [Open...] option to open a file
Select [Open...] from the [File] menu, or click the [File Open] icon to open the file selection
window. The standard windows [Open File] dialog box appears. Select the file you wish to open,
then click the [Open] button at the bottom right of the window. The window shown below appears.

Using the [Time Selection] option to open a file
To read data from specified start date/time to end date/time and display it on the text or graphic
screen, select [File] - [Time Selection] from the menu bar. The [Time Selection] dialog box (shown
below) appears. Enter start date/time and end date/time, then click the [OK] button. You can
display the time selection data on the text screen or graphic screen.
NOTE: Using this method, the 1h-data file (xxxxxxx-1h.dat/dat2), 24h-data file (xxxxxxx-24h.dat/dat2)
and userfile.dat/dat2 can not be opened.)
The longest available time frame is 11 hours and 59 minutes. In the above example, the maximum
time frame has been chosen. 2013/12/20 05:01 to 2013/12/20 17:00.

2.5 How to Save Files
Data can be saved with any name in Excel format. Select [File] - [Save as CSV-file] from the menu
bar, or click the [Save as CSV-file] button . The standard Windows [Save as] dialog box
appears. Type a file name, select the location to save and click the [OK] button.
2.6 How to Print Files
The software can output data to a connected printer. Select [File] - [Print] from the menu bar, then
select one of the following items, depending on your needs.
Print Log Data: Prints LOG mode data. Log data can also be printed using the Print
Log Data utility button .
Graph (Hardcopy): Prints GRAPH mode data. Graph mode data can also be printed us-
ing the Print Graph (Hardcopy) utility button .
Echo (Hardcopy): Prints ECHO mode data. Echo mode data can also be printed using
the Print Echo (Hardcopy) utility button .
Graph (All Data): Compresses all graph data into one printed page. Compressed
graph mode data can also be printed using the Print Graph (All
Data) utility button .
NOTE: The software does not support Microsoft XPS Document Writer.
2.7 How to Display the Program Version
The program version is displayed for a short period when the software starts a new session. You
can also display the version from the Menu bar. Select [About] - [Version] to display the program
version.

Below is a list of error messages that may be appear, together with their meanings and possible
