Outline
The keyboard unit (DM-KR028) is an option for data entry. It has a total of 28 keys, in 7 rows by 4 columns. A function can be freely assigned to each key. By assigning the same function to two or more keys, you can also handle multiple keys as one large key. It is also possible to connect the MSR (Magnetic Stripe Reader.)
Unpacking the 28 Keyboard Unit
When you unpack the IR Series, make sure you have these items:

Confirm that the package includes the items above. If any of these items are damaged or missing, please contact your dealer for assistance.

Installing
28 Keyboard Unit
Follow these steps to install the keyboard unit:
1.Check that the power of the IR Series is off.
2.Remove the connector cover on the right side of the LCD unit or the 84 keyboard unit. When an MSR unit is being attached, remove it.
3. Connect the 28 keyboard unit to the LCD unit or the 84 keyboard unit.
4. Secure the 28 keyboard unit using the supplied screws (four places.)

Changing Keytops
Refer to the user's manual of the IM-300 or Developer's Guide of the IM310 for changing keytops.

Refer to the user's manual of the IM-300 or Developer's Guide of the IM310 for mounting and removing keytop covers.
Removing the 28 Keyboard Unit
To remove the keyboard unit, reverse the installation steps. If you want to re-install the keyboard unit later, insert the screws and first turn them counterclockwise slightly, and then screw them.
Handling Precaution
While inputting from the input devices connected to the keyboard interface such as the external keyboard and POS keyboard, do not input the data from the MSR unit connected to the 28 keyboard unit or the 28 keyboarditself.

Installing the MSR Unit
The 28 keyboard unit is equipped with an interface for a connection to a magnetic stripe reader (MSR).
Two types of MSR units can be connected to the DM-KR028. They differ in specification of readable magnetic card.

Mount the MSR unit using the following procedure.
1. Remove the connector cover on the upper side of the 28 keyboard unit.

2. Connect the MSR unit to the 28 keyboard unit.

3. Secure the MSR unit using the two screws packed with the MSR unit.
Removing the MSR Unit
To remove the MSR unit, reverse the installation steps. If you want to reinstall the MSR unit later, insert the screws and first turn them counterclockwise slightly, and then screw them.

Utilities (For IM-300 only)
Note:
If your system does not use a pre-installed OS, please obtain the utility from your vendor.
Please use the tool pre-installed to your HDD for the IM-310 utility.
Please refer to the IM-310 Developer's Guide for information on IM-310 software.
The following utililies are stored on the supplied floppy disk.
Batch File for the Keyboard Firmware Update
This batch file updates the keyboard firmware and must be executed before using this product. After it is executed once, it is not neccesary to execute this batch file again.
28 Keyboard Utility
This utility edits and sets the the matrix keys for the IM-300. There are two utility types, the 28 keyboard utility for MS-DOS and the 28 keyboard utility for Windows95/98/NT.
Keyboard Firmware Setting Utility
This utility sets the keyboard firmware utility for the IM-300. It is used when you set the operation settings for MSR. There are two types of utilities, the utility for MS-DOS and the utility for Windows 95/98/NT.

Install Procedure
Note:
Please do not execute on the IM-310.
Batch File for the Firmware Update
It is not neccessary to install this program (INSTKBF.BAT.) Execute this program directly from the supplied floppy disk.
Utility for MS-DOS
To install the utility for MS-DOS, execute the batch program for the installation (INSTALL.BAT.) The batch program for the installation is stored in the \DOS directory on the floppy disk.
When the INSTALL. BAT is executed, the utility for MS-DOS is copied to the specified directory.
Install the utility as follows:
1.Insert the supplied floppy disk into the floppy disk drive of the IM-300.
2.Start MS-DOS. When Windows 95/98/NT model is used, start the MS-DOS prompt.
3.Execute INSTALL. BAT using the following format.
A:\DOS\INSTALL [Directory Name]
The parameters in brackets [ ] can be omitted.
Specify the directory name for the directory to copy the utility for MSDOS by the full path. If there is no specified directory, a directory will be made automatically.
