Additional safety instructions
We pay a great deal of attention to the design of every battery pack to ensure that we supply you with batteries which feature maximum power density, durability and safety. The battery cells have a wide range of safety devices. Each individual cell is initially formatted and its electrical characteristic curves are recorded. These data are then used exclusively to be able to assemble the best possible battery packs.
Despite all the safety precautions, caution must always be exercised when handling batteries. The following points must be obeyed at all times to ensure safe use. Safe use can only be guaranteed if undamaged cells are used. Incorrect handling can cause cell damage.
Caution! Analyses con rm that incorrect use and
poor care are the main causes of the damage caused by high performance batteries.
Information about the battery
1. The battery pack supplied with your cordless tool is not charged. The battery pack has to be charged before you use the tool for the fi rst time.
2. For optimum battery performance avoid low discharge cycles. Charge the battery pack frequently.
3. Store the battery pack in a cool place, ideally at 59°F (15°C) and charged to at least 40%.
4. Lithium-Ion batteries are subject to a natural ageing process. The battery pack must be replaced at the latest when its capacity falls to just 80% of its capacity when new. Weakened cells in an aged battery pack are no longer capable of meeting the high power requirements and therefore pose a safety risk.
5. Do not throw battery packs into an open fi re. There is a risk of explosion!
6. Do not ignite the battery pack or expose it to re.
7. Do not exhaustively discharge batteries. Exhaustive discharge will damage the battery cells. The most common cause of deep discharge is lengthy storage or non-use of partly discharged batteries. Stop working as soon as the performance of the battery falls noticeably or the electronic protection system triggers. Place the battery pack in storage only after it has been fully charged.
8. Protect batteries and the tool from overloads. Overloads will quickly result in overheating and cell damage inside the battery housing without this overheating actually being apparent externally.
9. Avoid damage and shocks. Replace batteries which have been dropped from a height of more than one meter or which have been exposed to violent shocks without delay, even if the housing of the battery pack appears to be undamaged. The battery cells inside the battery may have suff ered serious damage. In this respect, please also read the waste disposal information.
10. If the battery pack suff ers overloading and overheating, the integrated protective cutoff will switch off the equipment for safety reasons. Caution! Do not press the ON/OFF switch any more if the protective cut-off has actuated. This may damage the battery.
11. Use only original battery packs. The use of other batteries may result in injuries, explosion and a fi re risk.
12. Protect your rechargeable battery against moisture, rain and high humidity. Moisture, rain and high humidity can cause dangerous cell damage. Never charge or work with batteries which have been exposed to moisture, rain or high humidity – replace them immediately.
13. If your equipment is fi tted with a detachable battery, remove the battery for safety reasons after you have fi nished your work.

5.3 Installing the chain saw bar and saw chain (Fig. 4-6)
1. Use the pole chain saw key (Item 15) to remove the bolt which secures the chain wheel cover (Item 8).
2. Remove the chain wheel cover.
3. Lay the saw chain (Item 13) in the groove which runs around the chain saw bar (Item
12).
4. Insert the chain saw bar (Item 12) and the saw chain (Item 8) into the mount of the pole chain saw. At the same time guide the saw chain around the sprocket wheel (Item 18) and press the chain saw bar slot over the tabs next to the chain wheel cover bolt hole (Item
19).
5. Reinstall the chain wheel cover and tighten the chain wheel cover bolt, but only handtighten.
Note: Do not fully tighten the chain wheel cover bolt until after you have adjusted the chain tension (see section 5.4).
5.4 Tensioning the saw chain (Fig. 7-8)
1. Slightly loosen the chain wheel cover bolt (use the pole chain saw key).
2. Adjust the tension of the saw chain by using the pole chain saw key (Item 15) to turn the chain tensioning screw (Item 20). Turning the screw clockwise increases the chain tension, turning it counterclockwise decreases the chain tension. The saw chain is correctly tensioned if it can be lifted approx. 1⁄16" (2 mm) in the middle of the chain saw bar.
3. Tighten the chain wheel cover bolt (use the pole chain saw key).
5.5 Saw chain lubrication Important! (Fig. 14) Never operate the chain if
it is not lubricated with saw chain oil! Use of the pole chain saw without saw chain oil or with the oil level below the "min" mark will result in damage to the pole chain saw.
Important! Be aware of the temperature conditions: Diff erent lubricants with completely diff erent viscosities are required at diff erent ambient temperatures. At lower temperatures you will need low viscosity oils in order to achieve a suffi cient lubricating fi lm. However, if the same low viscosity oil is used during the summer it will become even thinner due to the ambient temperatures alone, and as a result the lubricating fi lm could break down, causing the chain to overheat and become damaged. In addition, the chain oil would burn and produce unnecessary pollutants.
Filling the oil tank (Fig. 14)
1. Place the pole chain saw on an even surface.
2. Clean the area around the oil tank cap (Item
9) and remove the cap.
3. Fill the tank (Item 23) with saw chain oil. In the process, make sure that no dirt enters the tank, as this could cause the oil nozzle to become blocked.
4. Reinstall the oil tank cap (Item 9).
5.6 Fitting the battery (Fig. 15)
Push a battery into the battery mount provided. The battery, when pushed in fully, you will hear it click into place. To take out the battery, press the push-lock button (Item 25) and remove the battery.
Danger! All the chain links must lie properly in the guide groove of the bar.
5.7 Charging the Lithium-Ion battery (not included)
The corresponding instructions can be found
Notes on tensioning the chain:
The chain must be properly tensioned to ensure
in the original operating instructions for your
charger. safe operation. When the saw chain can be raised by around 1⁄16" (2 mm) in the middle of the chain saw bar, you know that the chain tension is ideal (Fig. 8). During cutting, the temperature of the saw chain rises and its length changes. It is important therefore to check the chain tension at least every

7. Usage
Danger! Work only with a fully assembled tool.
When you want to carry out work on the tool itself,
always wear protective gloves and use the
supplied blade guards to protect yourself against
injury.
Before each use you must check that:
The safety devices and the cutting device are
in perfect condition and complete. All screws are securely fastened.
All moving parts move smoothly.
Never use equipment which is obviously
damaged.
7.1 Working with the pole chain saw
Preparations
To ensure that you can work safely, check the
following points before every use:
Condition of the pole chain saw
Before you start your work, check the pole chain
saw for damage to the housing, the saw chain
and the bar. Never use equipment which is
obviously damaged.
Oil tank
Check the oil level in the oil tank. Both before and
during your work make sure that there is always
suffi cient oil in the system. To avoid damaging the
chain saw, never run the saw if there is no oil in
the system or if the oil level drops below the "min"
mark. On average, a single fi lling will last for 15
minutes depending on the number of pauses in
cutting and the loads involved.
Saw chain
Check the tension of the saw chain and the
condition of the cutting elements. The sharper the
saw chain, the easier and more controllable it is
to operate the pole chain saw. The same applies
to the chain tension. For greater safety you must
check the chain tension at least every 10 minutes
during your work. New chains in particular tend to
expand more.
Safety clothing
Always wear appropriate tight-fi tting safety
clothing such as special trousers which protect
against cuts, protective gloves and safety shoes.
