Getting Started
About the remote control unit
q Push the lock lever in the
direction of the arrow and lift.
w Set two R6/AA batteries in the
battery compartment in the indicated direction.
e Put the rear cover back on.
Inserting the batteries
• Point the remote control unit at the remote sensor when operating it.
• The remote control unit can be used from a distance of up to about 23 feet / 7 meters, at a horizontal angle of up to 30° with respect to the sensor.
Operating range of the remote control unit
NOTE:
• The set may function improperly or the remote control unit may
not operate if the remote control sensor is exposed to direct sunlight, strong artificial light from an inverter type fluorescent lamp or infrared light.
Cautions on handling
• Before turning the power switch on
Check once again that all connections are correct and that there are
no problems with the connection cables.
Power is supplied to some of the circuitry even when the unit is
set to the standby mode. When traveling or leaving home for long periods of time, be sure to unplug the power supply cord from the power outlet.
Notes on batteries:
• Replace the batteries with new ones if the set does not operate
even when the remote control unit is operated close to the unit. (The supplied batteries are only for verifying operation.)
• When inserting the batteries, be sure to do so in the proper
direction, following the “q” and “w” marks in the battery compartment.
• To prevent damage or leakage of battery fluid:
• Do not use a new battery together with an old one.
• Do not use two different types of batteries.
• Do not attempt to charge dry batteries.
• Do not short-circuit, disassemble, heat or dispose of batteries in
flames.
• If the battery fluid should leak, carefully wipe the fluid off the
inside of the battery compartment and insert new batteries.
• Remove the batteries from the remote control unit if it will not be
in use for long periods.
• About condensation
If there is a major difference in temperature between the inside of
the unit and the surroundings, condensation (dew) may form on the operating parts inside the unit, causing the unit not to operate properly.
If this happens, let the unit sit for an hour or two with the power
turned off and wait until there is little difference in temperature before using the unit.
• Cautions on using mobile phones
Using a mobile phone near this unit may result in noise. If so, move
the mobile phone away from this unit when it is in use.
• Moving the unit
Turn off the power and unplug the power cord from the power
outlet.
Next, disconnect the connection cables to other system units before
moving the unit.
Note that the illustrations in these instructions may differ from the
actual unit for explanation purposes.

Features of the DHT-FS3 Flow of Preparations
n
Sound fields created through DENON’s unique X-
SPACE SURROUND algorithm analysis:
The DHT-FS3 is equipped with DENON’s unique X-SPACE
SURROUND algorithm analysis technology making it possible to achieve surround effects with plenty of presence using just two speaker systems, a front speaker unit and a subwoofer. This enables coverage of a wide listening area and makes for great freedom in selecting where to install the units.
Surround sound can be achieved with the minimum number
of speakers, so there is little interference between speakers, resulting in a natural sound. Fine equalization processing to bring out the best of the unit’s performance makes it possible to recreate everything from the most delicate details of music to powerful movie scenes.
n
An abundance of surround play modes:
The DHT-FS3 is equipped for both Dolby Digital, the standard
DVD audio format and the optional DTS format. A wide range of surround sources, from DVDs and digital broadcasts to movies, music, sports and variety programs, can be enjoyed with a strong sense of being there.
The DHT-FS3 also includes a Dolby Pro Logic g decoder for playing
stereo sources in surround, and it is compatible with Dolby Headphoneb, which is great for playing in the surround mode late at night, so you can enjoy surround playback with a wide variety of sources.
b A 3D sound technology developed jointly by Dolby Laboratories and
Lake Technology for recreating surround sound fields with regular headphones.
n
Freedom of layout:

About front speaker unit installation
Select one of the two ways of installing the speaker unit.
Mount the feet in the screw holes in the unit’s bottom panel.
• Two types of feet (
0.08 ft / 25 mm or 0.11 ft / 35 mm) are included. Select the type best suited for the
place of installation.
Use the included screws to securely fasten the DHT-FS3 to the two included wall mount fittings.
Horizontally
Mounting on a wall
• When using screw type feet, the base of flat TV can be placed in the spaces on the bottom of the DHTFS3.
b Depending on the TV’s
shape, it may not be possible to install as shown in the picture.
b Be careful that the DHT-
FS3 does not obstruct the TV’s remote control sensor.

NOTE:
• Be sure to mount the same type of feet in all four holes so that the unit remains level.
CAUTION:
• For safety, do not place any objects on top of or lean any objects against the DHT-FS3.
• To ensure safety, have a specialist mount the unit on the wall.
• Be sure to fasten the connection cable to the wall to prevent getting your hands or feet caught, causing the DHT-FS3 to fall.
• Be sure to check for safety directly after mounting the unit on the wall. Afterwards, inspect periodically to be sure there is no possibility the unit will fall. Note that DENON will accept no responsibility whatsoever for accidents caused by improper selection of the place of installation or poor installation.
NOTE:
• If there is a magnet or an object generating magnetism nearby, interaction with the DHTFS3 could cause color blotching on the TV.
