Warnings

• This appliance is designed for home air conditioning
and must not be used for other purposes.

• It is dangerous to modify or alter the characteristics of
the appliance in any way.

• The appliance must be installed in accordance with
the rules on household appliances in force in the coun­try concerned.

• If the appliance requires repair , contact a Service Cen­tre authorised by the manufacturer only.
Repairs carried out by unauthorised personnel may be
dangerous.

• If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by
a qualified professional authorised by the manufactu­rer only.

• Do not allow children or unfit persons to use the
appliance without adequate supervision.

• This air conditioner must be used by adults only. Never
allow children to play with the appliance.

• The appliance must be connected to an efficient
earth system.
Have your electrical circuit checked by a qualified

• Do not use extension cables.

• Before cleaning or maintenance, always unplug the
appliance from the mains socket.

• Do not move the appliance by pulling the power
cable.

• Do not install the appliance in rooms containing gas,
oil or sulphur. Do not install near sources of heat.

• Do not rest heavy or hot objects on top of the appliance.

• Clean the anti-microbial filters at least once a week.

•Avoid using heating appliances near the air conditioner.

• Always transport the appliance upright or resting on
one side.

• Before transporting the appliance, completely empty the
internal circuit of water by pressing the MODE and FAN or
MODE and SPEED buttons (according to model) simulta­neously for a few seconds without removing the tank.

• Then empty the tank

• Use the appliance as described in this instruction
manual only.

• As with all electrical equipment, whilst the instructions
aim to cover as many eventualities as possible,

• caution and common sense should be applied when
operating and installing this appliance.

• At the end of its working life, consign the appliance to
a specialist collection centre.

• The materials used for packaging can be recycled.

•You are therefore recommended to dispose of them in
special differentiated waste collection containers.

• When putting the appliance away, do not cover with
plastic bags.

Warnings for appliances with R290 refrigerant gas

• Keep the appliance at least 50 cm away from flam­mable substances (alcohol etc) or pressurised contai­ners (e.g. aerosol cans).

• When defrosting or cleaning, use only the implements
recommended by the manufacturer.

• The appliance must be placed in a room without con­tinuously operating sources of ignition (for example:
open flames, an operating gas appliance or an ope­rating electric heater).

• Do not pierce or burn.

• Refrigerant gas may be odourless.

• The appliance must be installed, used and stored in a
room with a surface area greater than 15 m_.

• This appliance contains 300 g of R290.

• R290 refrigerant gas complies with European environ­mental directives.

• Do not perforate any of the components in the refri­gerant circuit.

• If the appliance is installed, used or stored in an unven­tilated room, the room must be such as to prevent sta­gnation of possible leaks of refrigerant gas as there
could be a danger of fire or explosion hazard should
the refrigerant come into contact with electric hea­ters, stoves or other sources of ignition.

• The appliance must be stored in such a way as to pre­vent mechanical faults.

• Persons working on or carrying out any operation invol­ving the refrigerant circuit must be in possession of the
relevant certificate issued by an approved institution
confirming their competence to handle refrigerants in
compliance with evaluation guidelines recognised by
sector associations.

• All repairs must be carried out in accordance with the
manufacturer's recommendations.
Maintenance and repairs requiring the assistance of
other qualified personnel must be carried out under
the supervision of specialists in the use of inflammable
refrigerants.

uring the summer, you feel comfortable at a temperature of between 24 and 27°C with a

relative humidity of about 50%.
An air conditioner removes excess moisture and heat from the room where it is located.

Compared with installed models, portable air conditioners have the advantage that they can be
moved from one room to another in the home or be transported from one building to another.

Hot air from the room is passed through a coil coo­led by refrigerant gas. Excess heat and moi­sture are removed before the air is re­emitted into the room.
In single unit models (Pinguino), a
small part of this air is used to cool
the refrigerant gas and then,
when hot and damp, is
discharged outside.
In models with case (Super­Pinguino), the circuit is coo­led using air from outside.

All Pinguino and SuperPin­guino models can also be
used in fan-only or air
purifying mode.

The Pinguino ECO is a late­st generation environmen­tally-friendly air conditio­ner.
The Pinguino ECO does not,
in fact, contain gases
(CFC/HCFC) dangerous to the
ozone layer or with a marked
greenhouse effect (HFC).
As well as reducing energy con­sumption, the high efficiency of the
appliance also minimises impact on the
greenhouse effect.

The instructions below will enable you to prepare your air conditioner for operation as efficiently
as possible.

Before use, make sure the air intake and outlet grilles are unobstructed.

AIR-CONDITIONING WITHOUT INST ALLATION

Just a few simple steps and your comfort is
ensured with Pinguino:

• Fit the air exhaust hose in the housing
at the back of the appliance.

Insert as shown in figure A.

suckers provided to hold the two parts
of the window together (fig. C).

DEHUMIDIFYING

Place the appliance in the room without fit­ting the hose. The dehumidified air will thus be
released directly into the atmosphere.
Cold air will come out of the front grille and
hot air from the back grille (fig. G), thus gua­ranteeing efficient dehumidifying.

Note: The "SWING" button (V) moves the grille flaps to distribute the cool air uniformly in the room.

When the button (V) is pressed once and the flaps have begun moving alternately forwards and
backwards, pressing the button again will lock the flaps in their current position.
Pressing the button again will restart the flaps moving forwards and backwards.
When the appliance is turned off, they will close irrespective of their position.

TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON

Plug the appliance into the mains.
Two lines appear on the display indicating that the appliance is
in stand-by.
Press the ON/OFF button (A) (when turned on, the air conditioner
starts operating in the same mode as when it was turned off).
Press the MODE button (B) until the light corresponding to the
required mode lights up:

After selection, the flaps open at a preset angle.

When the air conditioner is turned off, the flaps will close.

AIR CONDITIONING

Ideal for hot muggy weather when you need to cool and dehu­midify the room.
When air conditioning mode is selected, light (M) comes on. Now
press the + or - buttons until the required room temperature is
displayed.

The most suitable temperature for the room during the summer
varies from 24 to 27°C.
You are recommended, however , not to set a temperature much
below the outdoor temperature.
Then select the fan speed by pressing the FAN/SPEED button until
the light corresponding to the required fan speed lights up:

TYPE A CONTROL PANEL

MAX (S): the air conditioner operates at maximum to reach the

required temperature as rapidly as possible

MIN (R): reduces noise levels but still maintains a good level of

comfort
QUIET (Q): for silent operation
AUTO (P): the appliance automatically selects the most suitable

fan speed in relation to the temperature set on the digi-

tal display.

TYPE B CONTROL PANEL

Press the button (O) to set the BOOST mode.
In this mode, the appliance operates at maximum air condi­tioning power, rapidly cooling the room. The symbol is
displayed and fan speed is at maximum.

BOOST (superconditioning)

With respect to air conditioning, this mode provides more cooling
power, useful when you want to make a very hot room comfor­table as rapidly as possible.

TYPE B CONTROL PANEL

MAX (T): the air conditioner operates at maximum to reach

the required temperature as rapidly as possible

MED (S): reduces noise levels but still maintains a good level

of comfort
MIN (R): for silent operation
AUTO (Q): the appliance automatically selects the most suita-

ble fan speed in relation to the temperature set on

the digital display.

DEHUMIDIFYING

Ideal for reducing humidity in spring and autumn, during rainy
spells or in damp rooms.

Place the appliance in the room without fitting the air exhaust hose
After selecting dehumidifying mode, the light (N) comes on. Press
the + or - buttons until the required humidity level is displayed.

At the same time, the Auto fan light comes on as the appliance
automatically selects the most appropriate speed.

Water is removed from the air and collected in the tank at the
back of the air conditioner .
When full, the appliance shuts down and (tank full) appears

on the display. The tank must be extracted and emptied (fig. H).
When the tank has been emptied, the appliance starts up again.

The accessory continuous drain hose enables the condensa­te produced to be eliminated without requiring the tank to be
emptied periodically.

Fit the hose with the rapid coupling as shown in fig.I.
NB: In order for the continuous drain function to operate correctly,

make sure the accessory is fully connected to the coupling

.

To release, press the coupling flange.

FAN (AIR PURIFYING CERTAIN MODELS ONLY)

After using the MODE button to select the fan/air purifying mode,
you can choose the fan speed by pressing the FAN (T) button or
SPEED (U) button depending on model.
In this mode, AUTO cannot be selected.
The fan speed selected will be displayed.

"3M Filtrete" air purifying filter (certain models only)

This is ideal for dusty rooms. In addition to removing dust, the 3M
FiltreteTM electrostatic air purifying filter also captures the smalle­st impurities (down to 0.003 mm), such as cigarette smoke.
To use the air purifying filter:
A) Remove the intake grille .
B) Remove the filter from the packaging.
C) Use the two plastic edges to attach the filter to the hooks on

the dust filter inside the intake grille.

D) Replace the grille on the appliance.

SMART MODE (SOME MODELS ONLY)

In SMART mode, the air conditioner decides the best way to ope­rate to guarantee maximum comfort.

•Press the MODE button repeatedly until all three lights, C/D/E,
on the type B control panel come on. The word appears
on the display.

Note: in SMART mode, temperature is controlled automatically.
However, if the required temperature has not yet been reached,
it can be reduced or increased by a maximum of 2°C by pressing
the buttons on the remote control.
The appliance will automatically set the operating mode (air
conditioning or fan/air purifying) and optimum speed.

AUTOMATIC SLEEP MODE (SOME MODELS ONLY)

This mode can be activated by the remote control only.
For more information, see the paragraph "AUTOMATIC SLEEP
FUNCTION" on the remote control (page 39).
When this function is activated, the SLEEP light (F) on the type B
control panel comes on.

SETTING THE TIMER

The timer can be used to delay appliance start up or shutdown.
This avoids wasting electricity by optimising operating periods.

TYPE A CONTROL PANEL

How to programme delayed start up

• Plug the appliance into a mains socket and press the

ON/OFF button (A), then select the required operating
mode (temperature, fan speed, etc).

•Press the ON/OFF button (A) again: the appliance swit-

ches to stand-by mode.

•Press the TIMER button (L): the two central segments flash

on the display.

• Use the + (G) or - (O) buttons to set the number of hours

delay before the appliance comes on.
The + or - button increases or decreases by an hour at a
time. When the buttons are held down for more than two
seconds, the time runs rapidly up to a maximum of 24
hours.
The light (H) flashes until the appliance starts up.
You can set the appliance to come on with a delay of up
to 24 hours.

How to programme delayed shutdown

• Delayed shutdown can be programmed in any operating

mode (air conditioning/superconditioning/dehumi­difying/fan).

•Press the TIMER button (L): the two central segments flash

on the display.

• Use the + (G) or - (O) button to set the number of hours

delay before the appliance goes off

At the set time, the air conditioner shuts down and

remains in stand-by.

THE REMOTE CONTROL

Inserting the batteries

• Remove the protective cover (see figure).

• Insert two new batteries (not rechargea­ble) making sure the (+) and (-) are in the
correct positions.

• Replace the cover.

Note: We recommend use of alkaline LR03

batteries.

If the remote control unit is replaced or
discarded, the batteries must be removed
and disposed of in accordance with cur­rent legislation as they are harmful to the
environment.

If the remote control is not used for long
periods, remove the batteries.

CORRECT USE

• Point the remote control unit towards the
front of the air conditioner.

• Maximum distance: around 7 metres
(without any obstacles between the remo­te control and the receiver).

• The remote control should be handled
with extreme care and respect.
Do not drop it, expose it to direct sunlight,
or leave it near sources of heat.

the air conditioner has started up.

•Press the MODE button a number of times until the air-conditio­ning symbol appears on the display.

• Now set the temperature using the buttons.

•To select fan speed, press the SPEED button repeatedly until the
required speed is selected (AUTO, MAX, MED, MIN).

NB: in air-conditioning mode, the appliance automatically removes
excess moisture from the atmosphere.

DEHUMIDIFYING

• Activate this function when humidity is high.

•Press the button to turn the appliance on. The symbol fla­shes on the display and a beep indicates that the air conditio­ner has started up.

•Press the MODE button a number of times until the dehumidifying
symbol appears on the display.

• Set the required humidity level using the buttons.

• In dehumidifying mode, fan speed is selected by the appliance
automatically.

AIR PURIFYING/FAN

This function is useful in dusty atmospheres or during muggy but not
particularly hot weather when only ventilation is required.

•Press the button. The symbol flashes on the display and a
beep indicates that the air conditioner has started up.

•Press the MODE button a number of times until the air
purifying/fan symbol appears on the display.

• Once the air purifying/fan mode is selected, press the SPEED but­ton repeatedly until the required speed is selected (MAX, MED,
MIN).

Using the remote control unit

SMART MODE

In SMART mode, the air conditioner decides the best operating
mode to guarantee maximum comfort.

•Press the button to turn the appliance on. The symbol
flashes on the display and a beep indicates that the air condi­tioner has started up.

•Press the SMART button. The appliance functions automatically
and the symbol appears on the display .

Note: in SMART mode, temperature is controlled automatically.
However, if the required temperature has not yet been reached, it
can be reduced or increased by a maximum of 2°C by pressing the

buttons.
The appliance will automatically set the operating mode (air condi­tioning or air purifying/fan) and optimum speed.

AUTOMATIC SLEEP FUNCTION

The automatic SLEEP mode is ideal for the night-time as it enables
operation of the air conditioner in any of the modes (air-conditio­ning, dehumidifying, or SMART) to be gradually reduced until it shuts
down completely (after eight hours).
To select SLEEP mode, proceed as follows:

•Press the button to turn the appliance on. The symbol fla-

shes on the display and a beep indicates that the air conditioner
has started up.

•Press the MODE button a number of times until the symbol of the

function required appears on the display.

• Then select the required temperature by pressing the but-

tons.

•Press the SLEEP button to set the night mode. The symbol is

displayed.

In this mode, the fan operates at low speed.

The night function maintains the room at optimum temperature without excessive
fluctuations in either temperature or humidity and with silent operation.
The air flow is reduced, while room temperature or humidity varies gradually accor­ding to the need for comfort.
During air conditioning, the temperature increases by 1°C every 60 minutes and 2°C
after 2 hours. In dehumidifying, the humidity level increases by 5% after 60 minutes
and 10% after 2 hours. In both modes, the appliance goes off after 8 hours.

SELF-DIAGNOSIS

The appliance has a self diagnosis system to identify a number of malfunctions.

LOW TEMPERATURE

(FROST PREVENTION)

When "LT" appears on the display, the ice prevention device has
been triggered.
The appliance starts up again automatically when the defrosting
process is completed.

PROBE FAILURE

(SENSOR DAMAGED)

If this is displayed, contact your service centre.

FULL TANK

Empty the tank on the back of the appliance and replace it correctly.
The continuous drain hose is not connected correctly or is obstructed
and the air conditioner is draining into the tank.

To get the best from your air conditioner, fol­low these recommendations:

• close the windows and doors in the room to
be air conditioned.

The only exception is when the appliance is
installed through a hole in the wall.

In this case, you are recommended to
leave a slight draught through a door or
window to guarantee correct ventilation.

•Protect the room from direct exposure to
the sun by partially closing curtains and/or
blinds to make the appliance much more
economical to run;

• Never rest objects of any kind on the air
conditioner;

• Never obstruct the air intake or outlet
grille ;

• Make sure there are no heat sources in the
room.

CLEANING THE CABINET

You should clean the appliance with a slightly
damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth.
For safety reasons, never wash the air condi­tioner with water.

Precautions

Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents to clean
the appliance. Never spray insecticide liquids
or similar.

CLEANING THE AIR PURIFYING FILTERS

To keep your air conditioner working efficien­tly, you should:

1. Clean the dust filter every week of opera­tion

2. Replace the 3M air purifying filter (certain
models only) at the end of each season or
when exhausted (see the instructions near
the filter housing on the appliance).
The filters are housed in the intake grille.
To clean the filters, proceed as follows

1. Remove the intake grille by rotating
outwards (fig. L).

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust accu­mulations from the dust filter.
If it is very dirty, immerse in warm water and
rinse a number of times.
The water should never be hotter than 40°C.
After washing, leave the filter to dry.
To replace, put the filters back in the intake
grille then attach the intake grille to the
appliance.

Never try and clean or wash the 3M filter
as this could reduce its filtering capacity.
When it is exhausted, replace it.

START OF SEASON CHECKS

Make sure the power cable and plug are
undamaged and the earth system is efficient.
Follow the installation instructions precisely.

END OF SEASON OPERATIONS

Place the appliance in stand-by.
To completely empty the internal circuit of
water, press the MODE and FAN or MODE and
SPEED buttons (according to model) simulta­neously for a few seconds without removing
the tank .
The water in the internal circuit will drain into
the tank or through the continuous drain
hose if connected.
Make sure the other end of the hose is near a
suitable drain.
When completely drained, disconnect the
continuous drain hose.
Clean the filters and dry thoroughly before
putting them back.
