Initial Drive Information

This section provides a brief overview about some of the important features that may or may not be on your specific vehicle.

For more detailed information, refer to each of the features which can be found later in this owner manual.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System

The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter may work up to 60 m (195 ft) away from the vehicle.

The vehicle will have one of these transmitters.

Press the key release button to extend the key blade. The key can be used for the ignition and all locks.

K to unlock the driver door or

Press all doors.

Q to lock all doors.

Press

Lock and unlock feedback can be personalized. See Vehicle Personalization on page 5-36.

Press and hold trunk.

Press and hold vehicle locator.

Press and hold three seconds to sound the panic alarm.

Remote Vehicle Start

For vehicles with this feature, the engine can be started from outside the vehicle.

Starting the Vehicle

1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle.

2. Press and release

3. Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold

least four seconds or until the turn signal lamps flash.

When the engine starts, the parking lamps will turn on and remain on as long as the engine is running. The doors will be locked and the climate control system may come on.

The engine will continue to run for 10 minutes. Repeat the steps for a 10-minute time extension. Remote start can be extended only once.

Canceling a Remote Start

To cancel a remote start, do one of the following:

Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle and press and hold

until the parking lamps turn off.

Turn on the hazard warning flashers.

Turn the vehicle on and then off.

Door Locks

To lock or unlock the vehicle from outside, use the key in the door or use the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. From inside the vehicle, use the power door lock switch.

Keyless Access

If equipped, use the keyless access system to lock and unlock the door. When the doors are locked and the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft) of the driver door handle, press the lock/unlock button. When unlocking from the driver door, the first press unlocks that door; press again within five seconds to unlock all passenger doors. See Remote

Power Door Locks

K : Press to unlock the doors.

Q : Press to lock the doors.

Safety Locks

The vehicle has rear door safety locks to prevent passengers from opening the rear doors from the inside.

Manual Safety Locks

If equipped, open the rear doors to access the safety locks on the inside edge of each door.

To activate, insert a key into the slot and turn it to the horizontal position. The door can only be opened from the outside.

To return the door to normal operation, open the door and turn the slot to the vertical position.

Power Safety Locks

If equipped, press o { to activate the safety locks. The indicator light comes on when activated.

If a rear door handle is pulled the same time the safety lock is deactivated, that door will remain locked and the indicator light may flash. Release the handle, then press the safety lock twice to deactivate the safety locks.

Windows

Warning

Children could be seriously injured or killed if caught in the path of a closing window. Never leave keys in a vehicle with children. When there are children in the rear seat, use the window lockout button to prevent operation of the windows. See Keys on page 2-2.

Press the switch down to open the window. Pull the front of the switch up to close it. See Power Windows on page 2-21.

The switches work when the ignition is in ON/RUN, ACC/ACCESSORY, or in Retained Accessory Power (RAP). See Retained Accessory Power (RAP) on page 9-24.

Seat Adjustment

Manual Front Seats

To adjust a manual seat:

1. Pull the handle at the front of the seat.

2. Slide the seat to the desired position and release the handle.

3. Try to move the seat back and forth to be sure it is locked in place.

Seat Height Adjuster

If available, move the lever up or down to manually raise or lower the seat.

See Seat Adjustment on page 3-3.

Reclining Seatbacks

To recline the seatback:

1. Lift the lever.

2. Move the seatback to the desired position, then release the lever to lock the seatback in place.

3. Push and pull on the seatback to make sure it is locked.

To return the seatback to an upright position:

1. Lift the lever fully without applying pressure to the seatback, and the seatback returns to the upright position.

2. Push and pull on the seatback to make sure it is locked.

Power Driver Seat

Rear Seats

The rear seatbacks can be folded.

For detailed instructions, see Rear Seats on page 3-7.

Heated Seats

To adjust a power driver seat, if equipped:

Move the seat forward or rearward by sliding the control forward or rearward.

Raise or lower the front part of the seat cushion by moving the front of the control up or down.

Raise or lower the entire seat by moving the rear of the control up or down.

If available, the controls are on the center stack. The engine must be running to operate the heated seats.

L or M to heat the driver or

Press passenger seat cushion and seatback.

Press the control once for the highest setting. With each press of the control, the heated seat will change to the next lower setting, and then the off setting. Three lights indicate the highest setting and one light the lowest.

Head Restraint Adjustment

Do not drive until the head restraints for all occupants are installed and adjusted properly.

To achieve a comfortable seating position, change the seatback recline angle as little as necessary while keeping the seat and the head restraint height in the proper position.

Passenger Sensing System

United States

Canada

The passenger sensing system turns off the front outboard passenger frontal airbag and knee airbag under certain conditions. No other airbag is affected by the passenger sensing system. See

Passenger Sensing System on page 3-23 for important information.

The passenger airbag status indicator will be visible on the instrument panel when the vehicle is started. See Passenger Airbag Status Indicator on page 5-13.

Mirror Adjustment

Exterior

Controls for the outside power mirrors are on the driver door.

1. Turn the selector switch to L (Left) or R (Right) to choose the driver or passenger mirror.

2. Move the control to adjust the mirror.

3. Turn the selector switch to the O position to deselect the mirror.

Interior Mirror

Adjustment

Adjust the rearview mirror to view the area behind the vehicle.

Manual Rearview Mirror

If equipped with a manual rearview mirror, push the tab forward for daytime use and pull it for nighttime use to avoid glare from the headlamps from behind. See

Manual Rearview Mirror on page 2-20.

Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror

If equipped with an automatic dimming rearview mirror, the mirror will automatically reduce the glare of headlamps from behind. The dimming feature comes on each time the vehicle is started. See

Steering Wheel Adjustment

To adjust the steering wheel:

1. Pull the lever down.

2. Move the steering wheel up or down.

3. Pull or push the steering wheel closer or away from you.

4. Push the lever up to lock the steering wheel in place.

Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving.

Interior Lighting

Dome Lamps

The dome lamp controls are in the headliner.

* : Press to turn the lamps off,

even when a door is open.

I : Press to turn the lamps on

automatically when a door is opened.

+ : Press to turn on the dome

lamps.

Reading Lamps

The reading lamps are in the overhead console.

m or n : Press the button near

each lamp to turn it on or off.

Instrument Panel Illumination Control

This feature controls the brightness of the instrument panel controls and infotainment display screen. The thumbwheel is located to the left of the steering column on the instrument panel.

D : Turn the thumbwheel up or

down and hold, to brighten or dim the instrument panel controls and infotainment display screen.

Adjusting the Time or Date

To set the time and date for the radio with navigation:

The navigation system provides detailed maps of most major freeways and roads. After a destination has been set, the system provides turn-by-turn instructions for reaching the destination. In addition, the system can help locate a variety of points of interest (POIs), such as banks, airports, restaurants, and more.

Driver Information Center (DIC)

The DIC display is in the center of the instrument cluster. It shows the status of many vehicle systems. The controls for the DIC are on the turn signal lever.

1. SET/CLR: Press to set, or press

and hold to clear, the menu item displayed.

w / x : Use the band to scroll

through the items in each menu.

3. MENU: Press to display the DIC

menus. This button is also used to return to or exit the last screen displayed on the DIC.

Ultrasonic Parking Assist

If equipped, this system uses sensors on the rear bumper to assist with parking and avoiding objects while in R (Reverse). It operates at speeds less than 8 km/h (5 mph). Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist (URPA) uses audible beeps to provide distance and system information.

Keep the sensors on the vehicle's rear bumper clean to ensure proper operation.

Power Outlets

The accessory power outlets can be used to plug in electrical equipment, such as a cell phone or MP3 player.

There is one accessory power outlet located on the center floor console and one on the rear of the center floor console. These outlets are powered when the key is in ON/ RUN or ACC/ACCESSORY, or until the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of turning off the vehicle. See Retained Accessory Power (RAP) on page 9-24.

Performance and Maintenance

Traction Control/ Electronic Stability Control

The Traction Control System (TCS) limits wheel spin. The system turns on automatically every time the vehicle is started.

The StabiliTrak system assists with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. The system also turns on automatically every time the vehicle is started.

Tire Pressure Monitor

This vehicle may have a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS).

The low tire pressure warning light alerts to a significant loss in pressure of one of the vehicle's tires. If the warning light comes on, stop as soon as possible and inflate the tires to the recommended pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label. See Vehicle Load Limits on page 9-10. The warning light will remain on until the tire pressure is corrected.

The low tire pressure warning light may come on in cool weather when the vehicle is first started, and then turn off as the vehicle is driven. This may be an early indicator that the tire pressures are getting low and the tires need to be inflated to the proper pressure.

The TPMS does not replace normal monthly tire maintenance. Maintain the correct tire pressures.

Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit

This vehicle may come with a spare tire and tire changing equipment or a tire sealant and compressor kit. The kit can be used to temporarily seal small punctures in the tread area of the tire. See Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit on page 10-68.

Engine Oil Life System

The engine oil life system calculates engine oil life based on vehicle use and displays the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON DIC message when it is necessary to change the engine oil and filter.

Remember, the Oil Life display must be reset after each oil change. It will not reset itself. Also, be careful not to reset the Oil Life display accidentally at any time other than when the oil has just been changed. It cannot be reset accurately until the next oil change. To reset the engine oil life system press the SET button while the Oil Life display is active.

Resetting the Oil Life System

1. Using the DIC MENU button and thumbwheel, scroll until you reach REMAINING OIL LIFE on

the DIC (

: % for Canada).

2. Press the SET button to reset the oil life at 100%. When prompted, use the thumbwheel to highlight YES or NO. Press the SET/CLR button to confirm.

Be careful not to reset the oil life display accidentally at any time other than after the oil is changed. It cannot be reset accurately.

Driving for Better Fuel Economy

Driving habits can affect fuel mileage. Here are some driving tips to get the best fuel economy possible.

Avoid fast starts and accelerate smoothly.

Brake gradually and avoid abrupt stops.

Avoid idling the engine for long periods of time.

When road and weather conditions are appropriate, use cruise control.

Always follow posted speed limits or drive more slowly when conditions require.

Keep vehicle tires properly inflated.

Combine several trips into a single trip.

Replace the vehicle's tires with the same TPC Spec number molded into the tire's sidewall near the size.

Follow recommended scheduled maintenance.

Diesel Particulate Filter

The engine is equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that, by design, will filter or trap particulates. The DPF is located under the vehicle in the exhaust system.

Depending on a number of factors monitored by the engine computer, the DPF will need to be cleaned of accumulated solids. When a cleaning is needed, the engine computer will initiate a cleaning action by warming the exhaust gas temperature. This feature has been designed to operate automatically, with limited operator involvement or awareness.

Cleaning the DPF (Exhaust Filter)

While the DPF cleaning is automatically controlled by the engine computer, the vehicle will need to operate continuously for approximately 25 minutes and at speeds greater than 48 km/h (30 mph) to clean the DPF effectively.

Special DPF Driver Messages

If the vehicle is used for numerous short trips or extended slow-speed operation, the engine computer may not be able to adequately heat up

the exhaust system to clean the DPF effectively. The engine computer has been designed to continuously monitor the condition of the DPF. When the engine computer detects that the DPF is nearly full of particulates and that the vehicle is not being operated in a manner that would allow effective automatic DPF cleaning, the Driver Information Center will display the message CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER KEEP DRIVING UNTIL MESSAGE IS CLEARED.

If the vehicle continues to be driven in a manner that prevents effective DPF cleaning, the DPF will become plugged with particulates. If this occurs, the engine computer will turn on the service engine soon light in the instrument cluster and the DIC will display the message ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED. See Diesel Particulate Filter on

page 9-28 and Engine Power Messages on page 5-30.

Fuel

Use Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (ULSD)

Use Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (ULSD) only. The emission control hardware used on the vehicle may be damaged by using fuel with high sulfur levels. Use only fuel that is dispensed from pumps bearing the ULSD label.

Do Not Use Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (LSD)

Do not use fuel that is dispensed from pumps bearing the LSD label.

Do Not Use Non-Highway Fuel

Fuel labeled as off road or non-highway is typically very high in sulfur content and will damage the emission control system. Non-highway fuel is not intended for use in on-highway vehicles.

In addition:

Use the correct engine oil.

Do not add gasoline to diesel fuel.

Do not modify the induction or exhaust systems.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is used with diesel engines to reduce the amount of regulated emissions produced. The DEF system must be maintained for the vehicle to run properly.

Locating Diesel Exhaust Fluid

DEF can be purchased at a Chevrolet dealer. It can also be purchased at authorized vehicle dealerships. Additionally, some diesel fueling stations or retailers

may have DEF for purchase. For vehicles with an active OnStar

subscription, OnStar can help to locate a DEF retailer. See “Customer Assistance Offices” in the owner manual for phone numbers to assist you in contacting a GM dealer. See Recommended

Fluids and Lubricants on page 11-12.

As the DEF tank becomes low on fluid, warnings begin with approximately 1600 km (1,000 miles) of remaining range. These warnings will increase in intensity as the tank becomes empty. Once the tank is empty, the vehicle speed will be limited. If there is an issue with the quality of the fluid or the exhaust fluid system, warnings will be displayed in the Driver Information Center (DIC). See Diesel Exhaust Fluid on page 9-29.
