Receiving and Inspection

Immediately upon receipt of a GI/GR unit, carefully inspect it for damage and shortage.
• Check dampers (if supplied) for free operation of all moving parts.
• Record on the Delivery Receipt any visible sign of damage.

Handling

Lift the unit by the lifting lugs (Refer to figure 1) or shipping carton. Never lift by the hood.

Storage

If the unit is stored for any length of time prior to installation, store it in its original shipping crate and protect it from dust, debris and the weather.

bracket and section rail holes.
f) If necessary, attach birdscreen to inside of base using
speed screws and washers* (provided) stretching the birdscreen tight as possible.
g) If necessary, attach base to support angle with bolt
(provided) through base into the nut on the support angle (provided).
* For aluminum birdscreen replace washer with aluminum strips (provided).
Hood Access
Hoods can be hinged for access on GR units with less than a 73” throat length, and GI units with less than a 61” throat length. Hinging is accomplished by removing the bolt attaching the mounting bracket to the mounting channels on one side and loosening the two bolts on the other side. Care should be taken when hinging the hood, especially in high wind conditions.

Filters

Filter inspection and cleaning intervals can vary from once a week to twice per year depending on contaminant present and acceptable pressure drops across the filter. Under most conditions filters may be cleaned with hot water and a mild soap solution (such as dish washing liquid) or steam. Some caustic cleaners will damage the filter. If in doubt, please consult the factory for a compatibility list.
High pressure spray washers should be limited to 2,000 psi operating pressure. Every attempt should be made to remove the contaminants from the filter in a “backwash” flow (note airflow arrow on the filter frame). Once the filter is dry, it may be returned to the appropriate filter racks in the same orientation (airflow direction) as they were removed.
Knockdown Reassembly
All knocked down hoods are factory preassembled and then knocked down for shipping. Reassemble by aligning holes and bolting together.
a) Attach hood sections together by overlapping joining
seams. Refer to figure 2. Align holes and use the provided section rail splice and bolts to secure hood section together.
b) For units with birdscreen, fasten securely to the section
rail inside of the hood with speed screws and washers* (provided) stretching the birdscreen tight as possible. Refer to figure 3.
c) For units with two piece mounting channel, insert
mounting channel splice into the two pieces of mounting channel aligning the holes. Fasten securely to base with bolts and nuts (provided).
d) For units with multiple base assemblies, fasten
securely the base sections through the base splice bracket using bolts and nuts (provided).
