SUBJECT: PART NUMBERS FOR THERMISTOR AND THERMO SWITCH
Introduction
The thermistor (TH101) and the thermo switch (THSW101) are not set up as service parts in the
iR1600/2000 Parts Catalogue (FY8-31FP-000):
1. Thermistor TH101 [P.810-1]
2. Thermo switch THSW101 [P.810-1]
Reason
Recently, a new standard on handling of excess warming control devices has been added to Canon's
corporate safety standards. This standard specifies, that after mounting a thermistor or thermo switch
onto a fixing unit, it must be verified that they are in proper contact with the fixing roller.
However, this verification is impossible with iR1600/2000 series machines, because the status of
contact of the fixing roller and the thermistor and the thermo switch cannot be seen behind other parts.
Therefore, the thermistor and the thermo switch of the iR1600/2000 should not be replaced in the field,
to assure product safety, as well as to prepare for proving safety in case of a lawsuit on Product
Liabilities.
Future products will be structured so that the installation status can be checked easily.
The thermistor (TH101) and the thermo switch (THSW101) are not wear parts.
As a rule, they would need no replacement by the end of the expiration of
the main body. If need for replacing these parts arises, please replace the whole fixing unit.
