OFFSET ASSEMBLY

PREVENTING OFFSET ASSEMBLY 56T GEAR F ROM RISING

To communicate the measures to be taken through servicing activity in the field to prevent noise and
the occurrence of E 540 due to rising of the offset assembly 56T gear

<Symptom>
There are cases where the 56T gear and the 19T/56T gear do not mesh properly due to rising of the
offset assembly 56T gear. If the 56T gear and the 19T/56T gear do not mesh properly, there can be
skipping of the gear teeth, and the shift motor drive will not be transmitted to the 56T gear, resulting
in noise and t he occurrence of E 540.

<Cause>
If the end of the offset assem bl y link is pushed up due to so me kind of force pr oduced, the end of the
link will rise, and the 56T gear will also rise as a result. (Fig 2.)

<Factory measures>
The rising of the end of the link and the 56T gear was prevented by the addition of an E ring (XD2­1100-322) to the 56T gear shaft. (Fig. 3)

Servicing :

When the aforementioned symptoms occur, correct the rising of the offset assembly 56T gear.
However, when making t his corre ction, che ck that the 56T and 19T/56T gear teeth had not broken off
and replace the gears if necessary. Also, if the same symptoms recur after correcting the rising of the
56T gear, replace the offset assembly by following the procedure, “5. Removing the Shift Tray
Assembly”, in Chapter 3 of the Service Ma nua l (Multi-Output Tray- C1 / FY8-13EB-000).
